Which eReader is better?
« on: April 26, 2011, 04:12 AM »
I've been thinking about buying an 'eReader' because I changed sides and now I'm an eco-friendly bookworm although I don't hold anything against people who buy actual books.
Well, I was just wondering which is better: the Amazon Kindle or the Sony Reader?
Thanks! :)

I bought a Kobo this past winter and really enjoy it. I looked at alot of other ereaders but finally decided on the Kobo wifi because it was one of the cheaper ones and i wasn't sure if i
would like reading on this type of device. I only intended on using it as an ereader so the features of other brands didn't seem worth the extra money. I love the size and weight of it and
can easily be held in one hand to read. Also it is the perfect size to fit in my purse which is especially nice since i never leave the house without a book!

I have a plain nook which I bought after returning the nook tablet.. I was not doing much reading on it..  :P I love my nook! My sister bought an ipad the same day but I will stick with the nook because it is great on the eyes, even after hours of reading! :)

I've been reading ebooks on my iPhone! I'm planning on getting a kindle to feed my book addiction!

Update; got a lovely white new kindle and am filling it with books. I love it!!! Why didn't I buy one before? It's amazing and easy to use.

Well, I've got a Sony PRS-350 eReader and I can honestly say I love it.  It's very easy to use, you don't even have to install the software bundled on the eReader.  It's small, very portable and you can carry a large selection of books on the go.  The e-Ink screen is very easy on the eyes, and the battery life is excellent.

I had the PRS350 too, or rather still have it. But have stopped using it since I got my ipad. Its been almost a year since I've switched to the ipad and never once wanted to go back. :)

I think the Sony Reader™ Wi-Fi® (PRS-T1) is the best  ;)
I've got the white and the red one.
With cover it's so awesome  :-*

I still use my Kobo eReader.... I had never had an eReader before and didn't want to spend a lot of money on something I knew so little about so I bought a Kobo because it was super cheap (about $80) from Borders. I have been using it ever since and while I plan on buying a newer touch/color eReader I have never had a problem with the Kobo. It allows you to use SD cards where you can add books onto the SD card from your computer and insert into the eReader, it has wifi and you can direct download from the Kobo site. While it's not the prettiest or fanciest thing in the world, it's cheap, easy to use and I've never had a problem with it. I also have an ipod touch that I use for my ebooks which allows me to connect to my computer via wifi and download books through Stanza or you can download apps (such as ibooks, Kobo, etc) add purchase books that way.
I've never used a kindle, nook or sony ereader so i don't know how they compare.

I just received a Kobo touch last night as a belated birthday present and so I am pretty excited to see what its like. i just need some direction with regards to the initial set up as I dont have the internet at home so will have to go the net cafe and download the kobo desktop app and then upload it onto my laptop at home and then try see if i can get it set up offline.  do you know if i will be able to?

I have a ipad2. I LOVE IT.   Never have problems seeing in the sun etc.  I love going outside at night when the kids are asleep and reading sooo nice and quiet.

I agreed the Sony eReader PRS-T1 is a fantastic little reader, if you want one which has the ability to access the net via wifi.

Hi Everyone,

Would like to add my 2cents in here. I live in Southeast Asia where Kindle and Nook are not available.
Sure IPAD and Samsung Galaxy can be found here but the price is quite high for my pocket. For 3 years now I've been using Onyx Boox and I love it. Plan to get another one if my current one gives up on me  8)

Here is the link if you want to check it out:

I prefer a nook but any e reader that can read e pub is a good choice. I don't like kindle because it doesn't read e pub. Another option is a tablet that way you can have both nook and kindle apps for reading.

I like Kindle but now have a Kobo Glo and am liking that. The contrast is good and I like the front lit screen. I love the sleep cover. When you close it the Kobo goes to sleep and when you open the cover it comes on with the light on.

I have a kobo touch and Although I do have wifi,  I tend to download to my laptop and store all my books there,  and then I use the usb cable and transfer to my Kobo a few books at a time   I ususally have about 100-200 on my Kobo at any given time,  I then delete from Kobo as I go  as they are still on my Laptop  stored in calibre library  Hope this answered your question
