:021:  I've just had to abandon His Cimmerian View. It's just was too immaturely written for me; it tried to tackle pretty heavy subjects with the dialogue of a 12 year old....The only interesting thing was that it is written primarily in EPOV (which I normally like) but unfortunately this Edward was so "off" you really didn't want hear what he's saying- he's just not very authentic ....:021:

At 13 Bella is left to care for her siblings. 5yrs later she still struggles to provide for them. Edward is a professor at UW, who thinks all women are users and liars. When paths cross, what happens when Bella is just another female who lied. AH/OOC/18

I HATE when you find a story that seemingly has a great plotline, but then find that the writer is not talented enough to pull off the dialogue of his/her characters.   They say write what you know, and I get frustrated when I find out that an 18 year old virgin is trying write a complicated and dramatic story with Edward as a tortured psychiatrist who has been through a lot of turmoil and tragedy in his life but speaks like he's a teenaged boy from a trailer park.   Not knocking trailer parks, virgins or teenage boys - but if you have no life experience to draw from you can't write authentic characters and "real" dialogue.   I haven't read His Cimmerian View, but I have a feeling that this issue would turn me off.    :P

Thanks to all those who have shared stories with me, and "you're welcome" to those who have enjoyed mine!

This has been my biggest disappointment with fanfiction - a great plot that grabs me and makes me want to read, but childish writing that turns me off.  And I can't give a review saying this.  Other than maybe - get a beta.   :P

And then all these great writers do plots that I'm not so interested in....  Sigh.... the challenges of being a fanfic reader...... ;D

Oh God! I couldn't agree with the last two post more!! And I find this to be the norm rather than the exception. And I get it, you know? A lot of Twilight readers are at the younger end of the spectrum but stab-my-eyes, a lot of topics can't be tackled from an 18 year old perceptive! In fact I think the only reason Twilight works at all is because it's not written by a 17 year old; none of the good YA novels are...

On the topic of recommendation...I have found a lovely little Fic I want to put out there. Only has 600 odd reviews but oh! it's a lovely bit of writing. The author says it's a cross between Twilight and movie The Love Letter; never having seen The Love Letter I have no reference point and it's a far cry to the original Twilight so it feels very fresh to me.  It is called Spirit to Flesh (link below) anyone read it? If not tuck yourself into bed with it tonight it not very long 17 chapters so you can get it read pretty pronto. Or save it for Halloween

This is true.  There are very few teenage writers that have the maturity to deal with much more than fluff.

Is this a safe haven for discussing fics? I never leave a nasty review but I need to vent about a fic that I'm currently reading. I just don't want to step on any toes  :o

I'm reading the WIP but I'm not going to name it... It's a very well written fic and I'm enjoying it but it's been the same thing over and over for the past few chapters. It feels like the characters are stuck in the same loop and there is no progress. I've been reading the reviews and people are being downright nasty  >:( I give kudos to authors who put themselves out there, but...

I don't like with this kind of flaming but I agree with the statements that the story getting redundant and the characters are just being stupid. I'm getting ready to flounce until it's complete. As it stands now I'm just skimming and I don't like that in case there happens to be ONE new piece of info.

You are making me so glad I was waiting for that one to complete.  Each time it updates I think, "Oh, I should start that one!" and I keep waiting.

I don't like the nasty reviews. Though sometimes it doesn't hurt to nicely say, "um maybe you should have the characters move on?"  But it sounds like the message has been given. :(  Hopefully they won't get discouraged and quit.

Thanks for the puffy hearts  :-*

Well now I'm all curious. Will you PM me what the fic is so I can see if it's on my list?

I'm about 100 some odd pages into Evading Edward...anyone have any opinions on this one?

Okay, I'm going to play devil's advocate.  I'm following this story, too.  Although I would like to see E/B make some progress, which is difficult since Bella won't talk to Edward, I thought there was quite a bit going on in  the most recent installment.  There's a mysterious figure listening to Edward and Emmett in the bar, Edward's dismissal of Jane, and who was that policeman calling about Bella's appearance in Volterra, plus Bella's dismissal of Jules' desire for her and Edward's heading to Italy.  It looked to me like fluffyliz was setting things up for some action.  I think I need to go write a nice review, sounds like liz might need some support.  I never know this stuff is going on in the reviews, probably because I haven't figured out how to look at what others are saying and I haven't ventured into twitter, facebook teaser sites, etc.

As I said, I like the fic, I find it a very good read however, it's been the same thing for a at least 4 chapters and there is no progress whatsoever. It's a little infuriating to read. I may just wait till it completes so I don't have to wait to see how things progress. I never review as I've been burnt by authors being nasty when they reply, but I may need to leave a nice one for her because I don enjoy the story  :)

Evading Edward?  Is that the one where Bella moves in next door to the Cullens and is friends with all but Edward?  They meet when he almost hits her on the driveway?  Yeah. I didn't get far in that one.  Something else caught my interest and I'm not sure what happened to it.  ADD strikes again!  Are you finding it boring or does it pick up?
