I may have mis read your note but have you tried FicLab?

Yup. Tried, but I don't have the admin right to install any extension myself (just realized I used the wrong term), so... now trying to look for direct download whenever possible.

If the story is on AO3, you have the ability to direct download a copy using the site's program, without having to install anything on your computer.  You might also be able to do that on Stars Library.  Click on the printer icon, then save to pdf.

You can't do it from ffn, though.  You have to have a third party program.  Although, I have heard you can cut and paste if you're using the mobile site for ffn.  I don't know if that's still true.

Ya... I'm using the copy and paste method... Just wish there's an easier alternative but seems I'm not as lucky this time... Thanks for the info!

Are you able to use a portable browser that does not need installing? If you are able to use something like You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, then that should allow you to use FicLab without whatever security policy is messing with extensions in your main browser getting in the way.
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - download fanfiction stories as ePub, Kindle (mobi / azw), PDF, HTML, markdown & MS Word (docx).

don't know which thread is the discussion thread.... I'm knew to the website and don't have it bookmarked yet 0.o

Are you sure you have the right website? It is just one page with a box to put in the URL, a drop down menu to pick format, and a dowload button. Like I said, it only does FF.net right now because it is fairly new (there is a list of updates at the bottom of the page)

Do you mean You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login  <— cause I can’t get it to move past the ‘loading’ stage for the past week and a half or something it’s not been working for me anyway. Is it working for anyone else? If I go to go save.com it comes up some random website saying the domain is for sale I think.

Fanficfare has a sort of workabout for downloading from FF.Net but it requires adding instructions to the FFF configuration regarding ones cache.  After messing about for about a week I finally found out where my cache is stored. However, since I am about as technically minded as a doorknob.  Has anyone successfully been able to download from FF.Net using this or any other method?  If so, could they provide idiot notes for the technically dumb?  Here's hoping.   :-*

Will you provide a link?  Does it only upload one story at a time or can you upload multiple stories like we could with Calibre?

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login works pretty reliably for downloading from ffnet. It's a browser plugin for Chrome and Firefox, available here:

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

It adds a save button to the story pages. There are a variety of options, but the defaults are fairly sane. If you want the idiot-proof experience, just ignore the options and click the download button without changing anything, and it'll provide an ePUB for you.

Happy to assist if you get stuck.

Unfortunately, Safari doesn't support the WebExtension standard. This means that there's no way to get FicLab to work on Safari without completely rewriting the entire extension.

You can install Chrome or Firefox on your mac though, which will with with FicLab just fine.

Instructions say browse the chrome web store for the extension BUT  the Chrome Web Store isn’t currently available to browse or search on your mobile device. Click the link below to send yourself a reminder to visit the Chrome Web Store next time you’re at your desktop computer.

That is because FicLab is a desktop browser extension.

If you want to run it on an Android device, the only browser available which I'm aware of that's capable of installing and running desktop extensions is You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. FicLab works with that just fine (although you may need to view some pages in desktop mode in order to get the save button to show up).

Firefox mobile also has some early support, but doesn't allow the general public to install extensions other than a very small number which Mozilla have specifically whitelisted. This may improve in the future. I have tested FicLab on Firefox mobile and can confirm that it does work properly - so if Mozilla decide to open up the ability to install extensions more widely, then FicLab is ready to go.

On iOS, to the best of my knowledge you're completely out of luck. Apple doesn't allow browsers in their app store unless they are basically a skinned version of Safari.

So, working to rebuild all of my calibre libraries since the last updated wiped them out. Thankfully the files are still in my one-drive, just just loading everything up. Unfortunately when I add the stories back in, it isn't loading any of the meta-data. Anyone know of a way for me to get this done without having to manually fix each one?

EDIT:
Found a way to get around manually re-entering all the info. Thank goodness!!

Which type of files are these, and where did they originate from? If they are FicLab or FLAG files, then provided they are in an ebook format (ePub, Kindle, etc) they should already contain all the metadata Calibre needs (with the exception of custom metadata, or if you have edited it after importing but have not modified the original file to match).

If they are in a format that does not support much metadata (e.g. PDF) then some details will be missing, as they simply aren't contained in the original file. The same goes for if you obtained proper ebook filetypes from a source that does not set the metadata properly.

If the metadata isn't available in the original files, it may be possible to retrieve it from your old library. Do you have a backup of the metadata.db file from your old library?
