  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Yeah, I just flounced one. The grammar was so bad. She would use the infinitive verb in a past tense. In every other sentence. Then I read her bio and found she was from Hungary. So I let the grammar go. Except she insists on writing mediocre lemons in every chapter. With past tense infinitives. Sigh. It just wasn't moving fast enough to keep me interested.

It was rec'd in the Twilight/New Moon AU group.  There was probably a decent story in there somewhere. The lemons just were overpowering LOL!   :P

What Fic was it?  I flounce a lot lately.  I can't seem to find anything I can really get in to.

Is it only me that finds the 152 thread hilarious?! I read the searched for story description and snort/laugh out loud.  >:D

I'm looking for a fic where Bella meets Edward, they fall in love and then Bella get pregnant Yeah, this and about 100,0000,0000 other fics! :D :D It is a testament to you wonderful ladies that some of you can identify so many stories from the scraps you are given... :-*
Aww, damn I was gonna go over there and ask about a fic where B&E meet, fall in love and B gets pregnant.  :P :P :D :D

I listened to Matched (audiobook) and it wasn't bad, although I cared more for the social background.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Have you read the Rubyred Trilogy by Kerstin Gier? I just read it and it was fun.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
I haven't read Rubyred... I'll check it out!   I've had Matched on my TBR list forever and just haven't gotten around to reading it.

I read Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater I really, really liked it; it's a trilogy. I know you liked Twilight I'm sure you'll like this. Plus Stiefvater is a better writer!

On another note Kim, I wouldn't wait for the published version of Dusty, I doubt that a lot of the material will make it if it's pushed towards a YA audience....Dusty is M rated, with a capital M
I ended up starting Daughter of Smoke & Bones...  I'm not just thrilled with it yet, but hopefully it's going somewhere.     I'll definitely check out Shiver!  Yes, I was giddy over Twilight! ;-)

Thanks for the tip on Dusty..  I like my CAPITAL M's so certainly don't want to read the edited version.  So...  heavy on the M because of sex or violence or drugs or all of the above?

I hate it when they switch tenses--like from present to past and back again. It's not like they're doing a flashback or anything. It's just a random switch. Pick a tense and keep it!

I can second Shiver, I loved those!

Can someone tell me what Trippin, Slippin, Stumbletumblin By YellowGlue is actually about? The blurb or whatnot doesn't tell me anything!

Going on vacay in a few days....total r&r.  We get away at lest 2x every year to regroup just sit at the beach and chill.
Got any good books or fics to rec?

For YA, i love the writing of Colleen Hoover and Abbi Glines.  :)

I have a gazillion in my TBR for fanfics and real books. I sometimes get panicky whenever i scroll through and see how many there are i havent read. But it doesnt stop me from adding more. ;D For real books, i tend to look at the ratings in goodread before deciding to read it. I first read those that have 4 or more stars and are not overly long. This way, it would seem the number of my books are slowly dwindling.  :)

There are some writers that i absolutely love but i put off reading their books, saving it for when am feeling down or nothing seems to keep me interested. It helps that i discovered them "late" so they have a number of older books/series i havent read. However, if the book is part of a series, i tend to finish them once i start. This is why i havent read Kristen Ashley's Unfinished Hero and Chaos series as well as Abbi Glines' Seabreeze series to name a few. But as soon as any of their series i've read has a new book, i will definitely read it as soon as it is released (colorado mountain, rosemary beach, vincent brothers, sylvia day's crossfire).

Btw, anyone heard from Astro lately? How is she? I remember she was planning a US vac sometime this year. Give her my best and I hope all is well.

She had a problem with her internet connection so she couldn't go on PTS or Twitter for a few weeks. I think she is slowly going back in twitter so she might drop by here again, hopefully soon. Things were a bit hectic at her work but she is doing fine and does miss all of us here.  :)

I quit using Storymaster, partially because it took so long to get stuff,  I would forget I requested it and ask again. But also because I wasn't liking the format.  Calibre has been the best for me. Though the standalone FFDL also gives good results,  it is limited on the sites it will work with.

I'm hoping Flagfic will be back soon. It was always great for grabbing a single story. And never a problem with format. :)
a

I agree. FLAGFIC is THE BEST! Honestly. I will try the ffdl appspot tho, the one hosted by Google. Hopefully it works!
Spread the love. <3

I used to use the appspot version for twilighted stories before I found out about flagfic.  It worked well but was a little slow. I used the FFDL standalone program for ffnet but it didn't do Twilighted. ;)

I haven't read any YA fics in a while (unless they're HP, cause most of the Jily ones are), but if I'm going for real books, my go-to (other than Harry Potter) is either P. C & Kristen Cast's House of Night Series or Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy. I've reread those a dozen times. Never fails as a good read.

Colleen Hoover is brilliant...can't remember if I've ready any Abbi Glines...I'm awaiting with bated breath for Crossfire series to complete so I can retire Sylvia Day  :)

Oh God! Mofos, that is the absolute worst! Sometimes mid paragraph!  I love that so many people but their imaginations to work and offer up the results, (thankyou! Thankyou! We are most grateful for the freeness..) but did half of you not bother to attend the mandatory English lessons your school provided?!!  :D

On another note. When a story is labelled 'angst' but B&E  'fall in love' before it's half way finished, that is the point, if, one was able to, one should just flounce. After that most of the angst is just there for the sake of it...What could really happen, realistically? Hardly any author dares to kill one of them off, so all there can be is: 1) An Ex turns up (blah, blah, blah, drama drama) 2) One of them is in a life threatening accident from which they'll recover (blah, blah, blah, drama drama) 3) A misunderstanding over which of them left the toilet seat up (blah blah..What? Oh? That never happens? OKaayy then).  I'm reading An Island In The Sun by drotuno I thought I'd start with this and work my way to the Angel series, but Jesus wept! They fell into each others arms a 3rd of the way through and now it's just one thing after another and its mind numbingly boring...But in case you don't believe me, here's the link :D  You are not allowed to view links. Lol, I know what you mean, I was reading a fic a while ago that Bella was kidnapped and half way through a sentence the author went from "I said/thought" to "she said/thought" and was left thinking WTF!!  >:( >:(
I really wish I had the flouncing gene at times like that.  :D :D

If they get together within the first 60/70% of the fic that is definitely not angst. I want them to fight with and for each other.  :P :P
That surprises me about drotuno as I've loved all her other fics I've read. Looks like this one is staying on the TBR list for a while.
I've decided to re-read Dusty as I'm still struggling with finding anything that keeps my interest atm, I think I've found the perfect soundtrack for it as well: Lorde - Pure Heroine, but then again I'm a bit obsessed with this album at the mo.  ^-^ ;D

I'm surprised too because so many have recc'd her here on this thread, so imagine my annoyance that I'm having to fight to stay awake!

I haven't re-read Dusty yet this month.....joke! :D  I made a play-list from the chapter songs, but Pure Heroine as the sound track? Genius! I love that album too.

I don't do angst mostly for this reason. And I don't consider most of the "angst" stories to be actual angst. Real angst makes you cry throughout the whole story.  And few fanfic writers can do it. This is not to say the stories aren't dramatic. Just not angst.

Now I like a good drama.  ;)  But I hate those stories that throw bad thing after bad thing at the characters just because they think that's what readers want.  >:(

End it and give me a three years later epi & I'm happy. ;)
