  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

You're not unobservant hun - I became a TB yesterday, it should be fun if I don't cause PTS to have a major melt down.  :D

Yay, Congrats!!!  :-* What exactly is a TB?

Hello newbie here!

I remember reading my first few fanfics, when Edward POVs of the twilight books where the best things ever, how naive I was back then. I think it might be back in 2010? I remember loving 'The List' as it was one of those top fics in twilighted, when MoTU was only about 30-40 chapters long. Aah the good old days!

Anyway! I just want to lament over a story that I have loved since then, it's been abandoned by the author and I doubt that it will be completed. It's Nothing left to Lose by Sarahjaynefics, it's one of those fics that I could not stop reading and until now it bugs me that I don't know what happened next.

If I was half a decent writer I could have maybe wrote what I think might have happened but I'm not half as talented as the worst fic writers are  :P. writing a fic from a fanfic so to speak.

Just thought I'd share my thoughts.

Welcome Crystal!!!
I am new myself and am glad to meet new people coming to the mix with myself. I just can't find it in me yet to follow a WIP because of what you experienced. I have a great imagination but know that my mind is just not creative enough to finish a story that was left unfinished.  I hope you enjoy this thread as much as I am!!

Thank you Thank you to all those who rec'd Comp Sem 101 by bornonhalloween. I loved it too. What a nice journey for both Bella and Edward. Nice character growth, esp for Bella. It was great, so thanks again for the love you were all showing this fic!
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
Glad to hear you like it. I already added to my TBR list so I will have to bump it to the top!!!

I wonder if it's You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login or the part 2 Loopy mentioned You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login.

Loopy, Did you read pt 2? Does it end with a cliffie or is it done? (I think I read pt 1 didn't end, so I got the book but put it on hold for pt 2 to come out. I don't usually start to read a series until the series is done first. This habit is killing me on Sylvia Day's Crossfire series. I can't wait for them to finish coming out so I can know what everyone is talking about.)

I have finished reading The Hope Falls Chronicles by Melanie Shawn (Sweet Reunion, Sweet Harmonies, Sweet Victory and Home Sweet Home) and have to say they were more than decent.

The stories follow four women (who have been friends since childhood) reunited in their small home-town as they find 'the one'
Each story holds up on it's own and they are all sweet reads (see titles!) if slightly predictable.  They are good if you want a fairly lengthy story with minimal angst and a guaranteed HEA.

I have also read all the entries in the Dirty Talking Edward competition and definitely enjoyed some more than others.   :P

A Better Man by MinaBR

I have just finished A Better Man by MinaBR and although it’s a drabble fic (not one of my fav forms of storytelling) I thought it was very good.  If you are interested you can find it here: -  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I've decided this is one of my favorite new words!  Did one of "us" make it up?
And yes, I think PE teacher Edward in The Practicum is one of my favorites too.    Awh, he brought her that book instead of flowers?  So sweet!   And the ending...
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

ahaha I think it really makes the idea of "F LOVING" a fic!  :) :)

Can't agree more on the ending part!  >:D

I'm reading the DTE's too and yes, some of them are not good.
Are you reading any from the TLS Angst contest?  They're are some REALLY good ones on there.  (Start at the bottom).

Can I talk about my favorites, or should we not do that as there will be voting soon?

I really enjoy reading these contests and deciding for myself which is the best - I'm never right though!

I haven't read any of the angst contest though as I really don't like non-HEA.
The first non-HEA I read , it felt like my stomach dropped through the floor and I couldn't stop the sobs wracking through my body.  I don't intend to make that mistake again.

I don't think there is a problem talking about your favourite as we don't know who wrote what.

OMG - I don't come on for a day and there's 7 pages!!
I have to say that I have new found respect for anyone that works with teenagers.
I stupidly said "Yes" to my daughter having some friends come and stay at ours yesterday, thinking that it would be 3 tops, oh no it turns out she invited 10 of her friends!!!  >:(  :o

At one point they were all sat in the front room "watching" TV and they were all on their phones and when ask what they were doing one of my Daughters friends reply was she was "Tweeting Tash!" yet Tash was sat 2 feet away from her!!  :o
I had to laugh at my hubby though as 3 of them were trying (really badly) to flirt with him and he was so scared that he just locked himself in the bedroom!!  :D

Probably the best place for him!

I spent my evening yesterday with a teenage girl - my daughter.  We saw Matchbox Twenty and The Goo-Goo Dolls in concert.  It was great, but really, really hot.  Outdoor concerts in the summer time in Houston...who came up with that great idea?  [Insert sarcasm emoticon here].  Friday we're off to see Train, The Script and Gavin DeGraw.  Again, outside in 100 degree (F) weather.  But I love spending time with my baby girl.  She's 19, but she'll always be my baby.

I don't really like non-HEA either but sometimes, especially with the shorter fics in the angst contest, I like a good cry.  So sad. . .   But so good too!

I do like one shots as they are over quickly.

However, at the moment one tear may turn into a million so I will leave it until I am not so emotional - thanks for the rec though.

. I was so caught off guard--I hadn't been reading ff for long and had been lulled into believing all fanfics had HEAs. The summary didn't warn adequately enough. I came across a rec for it yesterday, and I started to tear up just remembering it. UGH!

The first fanfic that I read that was not only not HEA it was so dark it made me cringe but it was also so complusive I couldn't put it down was a HP fic called Eden by obsessmuch.  Talking of Eden has any one read Eden Burning by Saluki168  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login  It made me want to get hold of Edward and bounce his head off the floor.  If you can stand lots of angst it's well worth the read.

You are welcome.  I know angst is not everyone's cup of tea.  I still prefer a HEA but if the story/writting is good enough I can read and appreciate angst and even a non HEA.

It's hard now to remember the writing quality over the plot, since it affected me so much, but if you like angst and haven't read it, you might give You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login a shot. It was a really good story, but requires a massive tissue warning.
