Remember I told you guys I was going on vacay to Myrtle Beach and then up to Asheville. Well it was great until I got home. Someone copied my card!!!! Spent money, $300 and $103 at Nordstrom's!!! Apparently this happens pretty often.....copying cards. The only way I found out is when the bank put a block on the card. I went to get gas and the machine spat the card out with a receipt saying I had no money. Now all this happened a week after I got back! Anyway, I knew I had plenty of money in the bank so I called and that's when I got the great news.
Gas stations is where situations like this occur I'm told. So I guess it's cash from now on or, remember back in the day, it was travelers checks! I'm bringing them back!

Wow, that sucks. They skimmed your card. It's actually an international syndicate that does that, as evidenced by the occurence all over the world, spreading ther "technology" through their local counterparts. Here, it's Chinese and Croatian nationals that brought/taught their technologies to be used on ATM machines. Sadly, it is hard to catch the perps and penalty under our laws here is negligible that if they do get caught, they will soon be out of jail to go back to doing it.

As our country is not yet as advanced as others, we don't have that many self-service merchants. We have gas boy attendants that pump our gas and takes our credit card to the cashier who then swipes it. Thus, unless the cashier and gas boy are the crooks (copies the details of your card), there will be no chance for the syndicate to install their devices to skim the card as the POS (point of sale) machine is always guarded/manned. What we do have are ATM machines outside of bank branches like in malls, offsite sidewalks etc that are not manned by guards. They target those that have its own vestibule/room so they can  install their equipment during the dead of night without being seen so they can copy debit card details.

Am just curious, am assuming it was your debit card (for your saving/checking acct) that was skimmed. When you use it in gas stations and the like, you are asked to encode a PIN, right? If yes, the only advice i can give you is to cover your hands when you encode your PIN. Skimming is usually a two-step thing. 1) they imbed a device to the machine  to copy the details of your card 2) they install a camera so they will get your PIN. only then will they be able to successfully create a duplicate card and use it.

The banks are aware of the skimming problem and will return your funds after their investigation. It just sucks that you have to wait, but it does take time to investigate these things.

I've been waiting on this to be finished (as I've only been skimming it while it was a WIP) and I've been really stuck for something good to read next.

Am currently reading Elle Kennedy's The Deal, her Off-Campus series. It's very entertaining so far. Then will follow it up with the second book, The Mistake. Then it's hello Cockyback, Reed Girl and Rainbow for me!  What a coincidence that am in a  sports oriented reading run. 

Nolebucgrl is pretty reliable so I've been reading the story as it updated weekly.  There's really not much angst in this fic. It's just following characters that we love into their HEA.  There's some sorrow, but there is always some sorrow in life.  You could have started reading this at any time and not been frustrated.
