I feel a little guilty.  For the second month in a row, I haven't read any of the stories that completed in the last month and are on the TwiFanfictionRecs poll.  I am reading Twilight fanfiction (and HP fanfiction and P&P fanfiction and real books), but I seem to be a little more focused on older fanfiction that I know has an ending.

Maybe I'm in a rut and need to renew my willingness to take a risk and read some of the newer authors without any guarantees of an ending.  Go back to waiting on tenterhooks for notice of an update to hit my inbox, instead of playing it safe.  Is anyone else still playing this form of fanfiction Russian roulette?

Yes, still reading a few. But I miss updates, which is annoying. I've been reading Gone Viral by Elise de Saillier.

Bella has become infamous because of a viral video showing the worst day of her life. Edward is a famous Olympic swimmer who she's had a crush on since she was young. There is something bad from his past that is going to come up. The story just posted the epilogue but I don't see it marked completed yet, so maybe a second epilogue?

Elise has been out of writing for a couple years per her AN's, but since she usually completes her stories I didn't have a problem following it.  EricasTwilight, however, has a couple I was reading and she still hasn't completed either. I think she is having health issues. I tend to be picky about the WIPs I read though. I was reading one that the author called an HEA, but as far as I was concerned,  it was not an HEA.  Putting all that time and waiting only to get to what felt like a hanging ending, yeah. I'll stick with authors I know will give me an HEA for a WIP. Otherwise, I tend to check the ending first if there is a question as to whether there will be an HEA.

I don't remember which story it was.

Oh, and I started on Drotuno's new Gravity series, but then I realized I can't handle those as a WIP - too many cliffhangers.  And now I'm glad I waited since she is having some RL problems and is not able to update regularly.

But, yes, I an reading a lot of older stories that I didn't read when they first came out. Some I can only read a few chapters before I realize why they haven't been read sooner. Sometimes the writing is so bad.
Not me. I only read completed fics because I have been burned too many times. I also scan the last chapter to ensure an HEA for E&B.

I'm so random and sporadic right now. I've been reading old fics, and then newer ones, and then regular books. I'm trying to spice it up and keep it random. Its actually been working out great that way, I got stuck in a rut at the beginning of the year, but think I have finally found my zone!

I just finished The Awakening of Ivy Leavold... Holy Heck!!! I literally stayed up until 2:45 am last night finishing it up. It was super hot and just.... hot! *ahahahah.... I feared for the life of my ipad because of all the hotness!!  :D :D :D

Edit to say: There is actually a back story mystery that is also keeping the story going, not just the shmexy-ness ;)

I've always been happy I am able to flounce books.  Though I don't call it that. I just tell myself I will finish it later. Only later never happens.  By the time I read another two stories?  It is forgotten.  ;D

Yes, I'm still an avid WIP Twific reader. I don't know. I just decided to make myself let go of a fic if it's slow to update or even completely abandoned. I just like to give new writers a chance. I've got about 50 WIP's that I currently have on my WIP list. So, I'm looking at it to see what I could recommend to you that I feel pretty good about them finishing & updating. So, here it goes!  :)

Point & Shoot by Blue Meadow

Two people. Two houses. One field. Sometimes anger is so much better than sorrow.
Rated: Fiction M - English - Romance - Bella, Edward - Chapters: 20 - Words: 39,798 - Reviews: 1,989 - Favs: 517 - Follows: 1,103 - Updated: Aug 2 - Published: Jun 11 - id: 12965796

Blue Meadow (aka-HoneybeeMeadows & planetblue) are collaborating writing this story. HbM writes Bella pov and PB writes Epov.

If you are into mafia stories, these two stories are interconnecting between each other which I think is kind of neat. Both authors are consistent & updating fairly often.

Killa & Bee by ceceprincess1217

Edward "Killa" Masen isn't sure why his father wants to team up with the Italians, and he sure as hell isn't happy about the deal to combine the two most powerful families into one. Isabella 'Bee' Swanatori has dreams of her own and they damn sure have nothing to do with Edward Masen.

Operation Nail the Swan by Fyrebyrd

Her audition turns me on, and that pisses me off, but it's her identity that's the game changer.
Rated: Fiction M - English - Crime/Romance - Bella, Edward - Chapters: 36 - Words: 150,115 - Reviews: 2,389 - Favs: 711 - Follows: 1,224 - Updated: Jul 20 - Published: Apr 19, 2017 - id: 12454534

And two other stories which I'm enjoying and are a little slower in updating but are fairly reliable with updates:

The River God's Wife by KinkyWings
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
In order to ensure the safety of her village, Isabella Swan is sent across the river to become the next wife of the cruel and powerful River God. At first, she detests her new life and despises her husband even more. Will she learn to accept her fate in time to realize the forces at play? More importantly, will she ever come to love her husband or is he truly beyond redemption?

The Island by Moonchild707

A girl leaves home for the great unknown. A king readies his people for war. A plane crashes in a storm over the mid-Pacific, and a body is found on a beach, not quite alive, but not yet dead. When a girl falls from the sky in a cloud of fire and steel, she must build a new home and make her new life in this land amongst strangers, known only to her as The Island. AH, AU.

Oh, and one more!

Home for the Harvest by compass54

Montana, 1000 feet above the Missouri River, was the last photo shoot before my vacation. The Cullen family, expanding the brand of their high-end whiskey, hired me to photograph their harvest. They chose an unknown male model to add sex to the campaign, and I knew working with an amateur would be a challenge. I never knew their seductive country boy would have me begging for more.
Rated: Fiction M - English - Romance/Adventure - Bella, Edward - Chapters: 22 - Words: 105,653 - Reviews: 1,935 - Favs: 890 - Follows: 1,358 - Updated: Jul 22 - Published: Mar 12, 2016 - id: 11837767

Maybe one of these stories will tempt you to give WIP's another chance but don't be mad at me if one of them becomes super slow to update or is abandoned in the future!   ;)

Not I... I would painfully make my way through crap! I couldn't leave a story without knowing, no matter how painful. I have no mercy now, it gets deleted off my ipad and marked off in my Calibre as crap!  :D

I don't spend much time on facebook, but when I see these people on facebook asking for stories, saying they've been searching for years, I frequently laugh because those same stories have been available here on PTS for years.  I always wonder where they've been looking.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for Alice/Jasper fic recommendations, can be AH/AU, vampire, can be rated M. I'm not picky, though I do prefer completed fics over unfinished ones, but I won't mind unfinished if they're great. I remember koko23cat had great Alice/Jasper fics but she unfortunately deleted all her work from FF.

Thank you all in advance.

You might want to check out the non-canon thread:  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

There are story recommendations on that thread that might interest you.

Also, while the pairings notations on the Index are not complete, if you go to the Index and put JxA in the search box and limit the search parameters to This Topic, you'll find some stories that are Jasper and Alice pairings.

So I've been dealing with fanfic authors who are positive we've violated their copyright (even though their fanfiction is using characters copyrighted by someone else, who started their fanfiction using another author's copyrighted characters!), and feel terribly wronged that their fans want to keep copies of the fanfiction.

Then I come across a P&P fanfiction that sounds interesting, only to find that this author only posted the first 3 chapters of her not yet published P&P fanfiction in order to entice you to order her book! You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Some days I'm not sure who is using who here!  Readers feel used and discarded when authors pull their fics, authors feel "violated" when readers want to keep copies of the fanfiction they loved (despite the fact they want those same betrayed readers to buy and promote the stories they now plan to publish).  Then you have the authors who tease by not completing the fics on-line, but requiring readers to purchase their book if they wish to finish the story.

Based on most of the feedback I get here, fanfiction readers are just as likely to buy the published versions even if they have the fanfiction version (assuming the author doesn't piss them off) because they want to support the authors they love.  I've done it a number of times myself.

Ok, rant over.  I cannot give this information directly to the authors I heard from this weekend because they probably wouldn't agree, would argue with me, and just generally get their backs up, and I don't have the time or energy to deal with them.  But, even E.L. James had to back off a bit on her "copyright" crusade because of the origins of the story.

Feel free to pat me on the head and say, "This, too, will pass."  Or, better yet, just agree with me to make me feel better.  Even if you don't.

I've purchased many books that were FF.  IMO... It's a HUGE turn off when authors try and trick their readers by posting and then making you purchase their book. I immediately unfollow and move on to the next! I think that seriously sucks butt!!

Totally agree with you!
Fanction - free. You posted it online, say goodbye to keeping it for yourself. Why post it in the first place if you had intentions to publish it?
Pubd fanfic - if you are good enough, i will buy your published work. Nolebucgrl is my fave. I bought her pubd, non-fanfic book.
Hate the most - unfinished work or splitting a book into several installments  >:(

Really hate this!  It happens too often in fanfiction and published fiction.

So I've been dealing with fanfic authors who are positive we've violated their copyright (even though their fanfiction is using characters copyrighted by someone else, who started their fanfiction using another author's copyrighted characters!), and feel terribly wronged that their fans want to keep copies of the fanfiction.

What REALLY ticks me off is just how selective FF manipulates those TOS rules. They have pulled stories that didn't deserve it while leaving so many who obviously violate the same rules (and still do) with the content. Even today, these stories are still posted while others were forcefully removed. How is that fair? AND, no rules about THIS in the TOS? Bait & Switch. Use this site to betray what it's initial purpose was - that is, to allow people to exercise their talent while others read their works freely. FREELY!!! NOT free manipulation. NOT free advertisement. NOT free self-promotion.

I'm sorry this whole situation just dug up a skeleton of years gone by - the whole debate of P2P, etc. Yes, it is the standard now in the FF world but before that? The relationship between the FF writer/author and the volunteer readers was one of pure trust. Unfortunately, that will never happen again. It paved the way for exactly this current situation. And, my ranting (while it makes me feel better) will not correct history nor change anything. This is just how I feel. Sorry, if it offends anyone.  >:(
