I just finished reading two stories by different, relatively popular authors.  It was the first time I'd read anything by either author, although they've been around for awhile.  One story was completed several years ago, the other was a WIP that I read as it was posted.  I was sorely disappointed in both. 

The WIP was practically incomprehensible.  It was a drabble, but even a drabble needs to have some continuity and disclosure of important steps in the relationship it's trying to document.  There seemed to be a lot of self-congratulation in the A/Ns, but I just didn't see the follow through in the story.

The older story was a tired re-tread of themes covered in other light BDSM fics, with less reason for Bella to run away from/push away Edward.  Also, the grammar, spelling and word usage was shockingly poor considering this author has pulled and self-published several stories. 

Perhaps I just managed to pick poor examples of both of these authors' overall portfolios.  They've both been relatively prolific.  I just can't decide if I want to use any more of my time finding out if they can do better.

On a more cheerful note, I'm enjoying Fallen Angel by MeteorOnAMoonlessNight.  I'm also delighted to see that texasbella and QuantumFizzx have posted something new, although I haven't read them yet.

I've been dividing my reading time between Twilight, Harry Potter, Pride & Prejudice, and True Blood, so it's taking me longer to get around to new stories.  On the Twilight front, I've been re-reading Brotherly Devotion by goldentemptress.  It's not finished, but she posted more and even unfinished it stops at a spot I can live with.  I also just finished the repost of Slapshot by prettykittyartist and look forward to starting Black and Blue.

Have a question for you all. Has anyone ever pre-ordered a book from Amazon and can tell me about your experience? I was going to pre-order the Twilight book that is coming in August, and it said they would ship when available, and to me that didn't sound very secure. I mean what happens if they sell out?

My pre-order experience is rather dated, but we got really good service.  The book appeared at our door promptly upon release.  No waiting in line at stores and my rather impatient child was happy.  Pre-orders get priority and I imagine it makes it easier for publishers to anticipate how many books they should print.

So sorry if this is way too off topic or doesn't belong here at all. If there is a forum that actually is for the purpose of what I'm going to post let me know. It's kind of a rant. I will not be eloquent. I'm not a writer.

I get frustrated reading stories where promiscuous women are slut shamed. Bella always has to be this virginal sweet innocent pure angel while other characters like Tanya, Lauren, Jessica etc. are shit on because they like sex. OKAY. It's one thing if they're trying to pursue a taken man obviously, that's not why they should be called a slut anyway. Do I make sense? In many stories, Rosalie is promiscuous too, and likes to sleep with people, but does SHE get shamed for it? Let me know.

Another thing that's frustrating is when Edward is totally okay to sleep around and have a past sexual history but god forbid Miss Bella even breathe near a guy. I don't want to get too in depth to my frustrations but most of the time it's the same song and dance when it comes to anything sexual with these characters. It's OKAY to have a sexual history! Just be safe, don't be an idiot that wants to ruin relationships! I don't wanna knock people who write stories like this, but I have to assume it's sometimes the writer's opinion as well, or they think slut shaming brings depth to the story.

I opened up one story while looking for something to read and the first line is "I don't want to look like a slut!" It just frustrated me. Love your body, wear what you want. I guess it shouldn't be that deep, but to me it is.

I would like for you to provide with a story where Edward being a manwhore hasn't resulted in him being the town whipping boy? I think your problem stems toward the fact that Authors don't let Bella stray away in those stories.  On that front I can agree. Alot of these stories make Edward such a slut that is ridiculous that straight laced Bella would want him.

So maybe the publication of Midnight Sun will make the new Twilight story count on ffn go up!  Wouldn't that be nice?

That's annoying!  Mine was through Amazon and I was told it would be arriving tomorrow so I got a bit of a surprise today. 

I haven't read original Twilight for many, many years so i'm not sure to hold off and reread it before I start Midnight Sun.  I guess I better make up my mind soon.

Checked my order status on Amazon after seeing this and my order says it will arrive between Aug. 7-11th. I was hoping I would have it sooner, but oh well.
