I will say you do NOT  have to pay for good security.
I use two free programs one for virus and one for a Firewall all the time.  If you search the terms Best Free Firewall or Best Free virus scans you will find lots of reviews.

I also run a malware program like  Search and Destroy to find adware and other malware that the other two do not catch.  It's free.

Yeah, everybody who does anything online these days should have antiviral and malware software installed on their computer, and a firewall program.

Also they need to be weary of their emails, if you receive an email that looks to good to be true chances are it is.  Also send people personal information (i.e financial, or personal data).

I'm one of those "I have a mac so I can't get any viruses and my mac protects everything" people :unamused:

Seriously though, all mac users need to invest in some kind of anti-viral/anti-malware software as well. You always need that extra level of protection especially since it's Apple we're dealing with, who makes it hard when you break something.

I think common sense goes a long way with your personal data... if you wouldn't tell your closest confidant something, you probably shouldn't be telling anybody online.

Everything else in the article was spot on especially about the kids. I have some family who didn't know what pictures their daughter was posting online until I happened to find it one day with a lot of inapprpropriate comments from grown men. Always make an effort to know what your kids are doing online.

Well, I used to have an antivirus, Spyboot search and destroy, C Cleanr for cookies and Malwarebytes. It was working fine, and everything was free.
But since Saturday, I got rid of windows and put Linux instead. Yoohooo !!!!!!!

Well, when I arrived to his place, my cousin had Ubuntu prepared for me. He said that it was easier for windows users so I got that one (altough I'm not stupid and learn pretty fast) but I think there might be better ones. So I'll have to have a look around ( and maybe someboby to help me install it. But my first concern really was to get rid of Windows 8 (couldn't stand the thing). I was talking about getting Linux for a few years now, and having a new laptop and seeing the latest version of Windows gave me the kick in the b*tt I needed !  :D

They are both systems sort of like Windows that works on top of Ubuntu.  Each has a variety of programs.  I usually install both KDE and Gnome on my Ubunutu computers because I like programs that come with each of them.    The one browser in KDE will walk thru any website without a burp.  It is also fantastic for finding files on your harddrive.

While that is sorta true, there is a small amount of viruses and malware out on the net designed to target Macs.  It is always good idea to have Antiviral, malware protection and firewall software on your computer regardless what kind it is.

The only good thing about Macs is that whatever you do to them, the registry is always untouched not matter what you do to your Mac.  That is not to say it can't be touched it's just really hard to alter the entires in the registry on MacOS.

Now you know perfectly well we will never need more than 64k.

And the last two digits are just fine to indicate the year.
