Mobile-friendly site launched
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:36 AM »
Hi all

We have just launched a mobile-friendly version of the site. So, if you browse PTS via iphone, Android, blackberry etc. then it should be more user friendly.

Please let us know if any issues and feel free to provide feedback. Enjoy!

Thank you Mr. Admin! :D I've tried going online last month in my android phone but decided to just stick to my laptop since it's just the same and it's hard to zoom it again and again. So thank you! I could go to STP in my Android phone now! :) Awesome!  ;D

I checked it out a bit and so far I like it (apart from the adds as you already know :))). Reading STP using full site version on phone was a horror for my eyes! So the mobile version is way easier to read since everything is bigger automatically. Ofcourse, it's a bit trying out at first but IMO it's pretty straightforward (like browsing through the site, quoting, pming). The only thing I couldn't find at first was to just reply to a topic :) (not using quote). To post a reply you have to scroll all the way down to the buttom of a thread and then you have a tiny little icon... So that wasn't very easy to find the first time. Also I noticed you can see images like the avatars, but not images when posted as attachment? (not that it is necessary for me on a mobile version).

[edit]
Is it possible to enable option to add attachments via mobile version?

I checked it out on my iPod touch and at first glance seems straight forward and easy to use. As Filo mentioned i also could not see attachments in the post but there is a button indicating that there is one and if you click on them (e.g. image) it opens up in new browser.

One question did Main Menu (search, inbox and logout) supposed to have images or question marks?

Glad to hear that the first attempt is quite successful.

They are supposed to be images, working on fixing them.

Mr. Admin, you are the best!

It looks great!
I'm going to be playing with that version today.

... When you check STP on your phone at a red light because you work ten minutes from home and you can't wait that long.
... When you curse that new left hand widget - while a cool feature - is causing your phone browser to be very slow and your page doesn't load by the time the light turns green.

Little remark: when sending pm and you type name, u don't get possibilities like you get in full version. I'm just mentioning this cause some members don't have the most easiest/shortest name to type :) plus: how do we know the message will be delivered correctly...

How I accessed the mobile version, I don't know. I was just opening my inbox from mobile and I reached the mobile version.
things were compact and easily expandable. The only problem, sort of, was that I was momentarily confused if I was on Twitter as the appearances were similar. Will test it out further.

I can't see new replies posted while trying to post. Not a problem, just an observation.

just for reference, i sometimes use my phone and have a Motorola Atrix 2 running Android 2.3.6

the page doesn't scroll left to right for me, phone or app??

my most common things i do on the phone are: "show unread replies since last visit" and "show new replies to your posts" and couldn't figure that out quickly

then I found the button at the bottom of the page saying to switch back and now i'm on regular screen...do i have to log out to get the app again??

the regular is fine with me on an android system and the quick things i like to do. i do the most from my laptop.

thanks for all you do!

I found out today that you can't view pictures (I guess you have to download the attachment), and I found out you can't leave thank yous (or view them).

Generally, mobile-friendly site mean cutting down a few things to make everything fit on the small screen.

However, will try to include few things back depending on the demand of the feature.
Please always feel free to PM me regarding any issues or suggestions.

I'm not complaining admin, just pointing out what I found out we can/can't do so others will know when they're looking for the feature. I think the mobile version is awesome! I used it a lot today.

Yeah yeah ... I am just saying that mobile is basically a cut down version and I can re-introduce some popular features if needed.

MAYBE thank you buttons because I think people will download books or want to leave "likes" on people's posts.
