Together we will beat Covid_19
« on: March 20, 2020, 01:13 AM »

Hello everybody
First of all, sorry if there is a misspelling or grammar, English is not my first language.
Ok, let's begin.
I am going to put a video of an epidemiologist who has English subtitles. I think you can also subtitle in French. It is a video that I already posted but I think here is a good place to start.
Later I will be putting various information.
If anyone has any doubts, ask them, if I know I will answer them, as soon as I can.
I work at Emergencies 112 (911) so I don't have much time at home and when I do I am tired, but I will answer as soon as possible.
The solution for this virus is solidarity. Together we can beat him.

HAND SANITIZER

If we don't have hand sanitizer gel. We can make one using alcohol and aloe vera or glycerin gel.

The measures would be to mix two parts of alcohol and one part of aloe vera or glycerin gel. If the alcohol is 90º or more, it will be necessary to add a part of distilled water or boiled water once it is cold.

You mix everything and it is ready to use.

Alcohol kills the bug and aloe vera gel or glycerin is to keep your hands from drying out and cracking.

If we do not have access to aloe vera or glycerin, we can wash ourselves with alcohol and then add moisturizer.

HOME ENTRY PROTOCOLS. ACTIONS AGAINST COVID-19

1.- When you return home, try not to touch anything.
2.- Take off your shoes.
3.- Disinfect your pet's paws if you were walking it.
4.- Take off your outer clothing and put it in a laundry bag (with bleach, recommended over 60º).
5.- Leave a bag, wallet, keys, etc. in a box at the entrance.
6.- Take a shower or, if you can't, wash all exposed areas well (hands, wrists, neck, etc).
7.-Wash the mobile phone and glasses with soap and water or alcohol.
8.- Clean with bleach the surfaces of what you have brought from outside before storing it (prepare the bleach: 20 ml per liter of water and do not forget to use gloves).
9.- Take off the gloves carefully, throw them away and wash your hands.
10.-Remember that it is not possible to do a total disinfection, the objective is to reduce the risk.

COEXISTENCE PROTOCOLS WITH PEOPLE AT RISK. ACTIONS AGAINST COVID-19

1.- Sleep in separate beds.
2.- Use different baths (Prepare the bleach: 20 ml per liter of water).
3.- Do not share towels, cutlery, glasses, etc.
4.- Clean and disinfect high-contact surfaces daily (switches, tables, chair backs, handles, etc.).
5.- Wash clothes, sheets and towels very frequently.
6.- Maintain distance, sleep in separate rooms (we speak of a meter, meter and a half of minimum distance)
7.-Ventilate rooms often.
8.- Call the designated telephone number for this emergency or the emergency number that exists if there is more than 38º C of fever (100.4º Fahrenheit) and difficulty breathing.
9.- DO NOT BREAK THE QUARANTINE FOR 2 WEEKS. Every departure from home is a reset of the counter.

HOME EXIT PROTOCOLS. ACTIONS AGAINST COVID-19

1.- When leaving, wear a long-sleeved jacket.
2.- Collect your hair, do not wear earrings, bracelets or rings (you will touch your face less). In addition, the bug sticks a lot to metal surfaces.
3.- If you have a mask, put it at the end, just before leaving.
4.- Try not to use public transport.
5.- If you go with your pet, try not to rub against surfaces on the outside.
6.- Take disposable cloths and use them to cover your fingers when touching surfaces.
7.- Wrinkle the handkerchief and throw it in a closed bag to the garbage can.
8.- If you cough or sneeze, do it on the elbow, not on the hands or in the air.
9.- Try not to pay in cash, if you use cash disinfect your hands.
10.- Wash your hands after touching any object and surface or carry disinfectant gel (hand sanitizer).
11.- Do not touch your face until you have clean hands.
12.- Stay away from people.

MASKS
The most suitable to prevent congtagio before an outbreak of virus (or bacteria) are respiratory protection masks. Especially the so-called FFP3, which correspond to the approval of the European Union, and the N95, which follow the American approval NIOSH.

HOW TO USE A MASK
1.- Wash your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based disinfectant.
2.- Cover your mouth and nose with the mask making sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.
3.- Avoid touching the mask while wearing it. If you do, wash your hands with an alcohol-based disinfectant or soap and water.
4.- Change your mask as soon as it is wet and do not reuse single-use masks.
5.- When it's time to take it off, do it from behind, without touching the front and immediately discard it in a closed container. Wash your hands right away.

Lack of test kits and their components in Canada are resulting in Numbers of cases that appear to be lower than they actually are. This gives people a false sense of semi-security and many are ignoring the self-distancing suggestions. If you have no symptoms or mild symptoms, you are told to go home and isolate. No test.  People were coming back from overseas at airports, with no screening here and no tests. Finally, they have installed kiosks that indicate they should self isolate at home.  Did they not foresee these people running out for groceries before self-isolating? Now they have canceled flights.

Hospitals are running out of masks, ventilators and ICU beds and we haven't even seen the worst of it yet. No masks in stores anywhere.

Here where I am in Georgia all the stores have sold out of regular alcohol.  I went to my local package store and bought a bottle of Everclear 190.  It is almost pure grain alcohol and used it to substitute for rubbing alcohol.  I didn't try to turn it into hand sanitizer, I just bought some small bottles and poured some of the Everclear in them so I could carry it with me.  I also bought some the travel size Gold Bond ultimate healing lotion with aloe from Walmart.  I dash a bit of the Everclear over my hands then follow with the lotion to moisturize.

Most countries lack the necessary amount of tests, so they choose who gets it. Quite arbitrarily, if I might add. Also, many people are asymptomatic so there's no way to accurately measure it. They estimate how many have it vs confirmed cases. We have less than 150 confirmed cases here in Argentina and the whole country has gone into a sort of lockdown. Only people who work in hospitals, pharmacies, restaurants (only delivery, not even take out), and supermarkets are allowed to be out. The rest of us have to stay home for 15 days. I'm a teacher and switching to online classes has been challenging. The kids are scared, anxious.
I´m not afraid of the virus itself, as most people would survive it. I'm more afraid of the economic impact it will have and the havoc it is wreaking on public health. No country is prepared for that many people gettting it at the same time.

Yes, That's the truth. All countries are doing the same thing when the only solution is to shut themselves up at home. Do not go out at all.
The virus is spread by people who have no symptoms. They do not feel bad and they continue making their lives because the governments do not say anything. And when governments start saying the death toll is very high.
Please: there is no known drug against the virus, there is no vaccine, they are studying them.
Telecommute from home. Transmit all the information you have, as long as it is truthful, and do not move from your house, for yourself and for your people.
Governments are not for you, they are for the economy ... even if they say otherwise.

REMEMBER: YOU ARE NOT LOCKED AT HOME, YOU ARE SAFE AT HOME.

That's the idea. What do we value most: life or the economy? I firmly believe that Solidarity is the answer to maintain quarantine (which is 15 days if it is done well, or is going longer as it happens in Spain because they are doing it wrong). What is worse for the economy: 15 days, everyone standing up, at home, safe, less those we cannot or more time? I believe that 15 days is not so long and all of us, together, can pass the disease and then help each other through whatever comes financially. But if we do not do one thing or another, in the end the deaths will be more and we will have a much worse crisis.

I know, neither do I. What I am doing is washing the clothes, all, when I enter the house, trying to wash at 40º, I cannot use bleach, but I do use white cleaning vinegar that is a natural disinfectant that does not spoil the clothes and I hope it will kill the bug, but I don't know. I also don't have white clothes. This I am doing, but I do not know if it works, the recommendations that I put are those that have been given to me officially ... I don't know if this helps you. What I do do is spray every day when I enter the shoes or sneakers, or sneakers, soles above all, and leave them outside the house or right at the entrance of it.
I hope I've helped.

I put the vinegar instead of the softener.

It's expensive but alcohol is also vodka or similar. Look that kind of things. Smelly but is alcohol. Be safe

Be sure to consider the alcohol content of the spirits you are buying.  The average vodka is only about 40% alcohol which is not strong enough per CDC.  You have to purchase a high proof alcohol.  The higher the proof the better if you are going to mix it with aloe, oils, and water to make a hand sanitizer mix.

It's not one or the other. Poverty and extreme poverty in Latin America are being worsened by the lockdown. We wil have more deaths due to malnutrition, lack of access to healthcare, unsanitary conditions etc than the coronavirus itself. You have no idea how bad the economy is here right now. We were already in recession and going through a terrible crisis and this lockdown has made it much worse. People are losing their jobs left and right. Kids are not being fed. People do not have access to essentials. The only people that this lockdown will help is rich people who can afford to safely stay home. My family's business is going under as so many others. Who's going to pay our bills? Who's going to pay our employees' salaries? not the government, that's for sure. At work they already told us our next payment will come in mid May probably. Don't make assumptions just because in Europe some countries can afford the lockdown. Here we can't. We have almost 40% of people living in poverty. It will likely increase in the coming weeks. People are desperate because they cannot afford food.
