Yes!!
There have been a few times that I have finished a book I felt I enjoyed and then saw the negative reviews and questioned whether I did really like book.   :D

More commonly, I have had the opposite happen.  Just last week I tried reading a book that had amazing reviews, people thought it was amazing and great.  I couldn't get half way through it and was left thinking, "Are you serious? Everyone thought this was the best book ever?!?!"  :021:

No.  It just proves to me that I  prob have more taste than the average person.   :D

Seriously, I don't bother with reviews.  It's just someone's opinion and how on earth could they know what I would like?

Yeah I'm like that too, unless I know the reviewer personally I ignore them.

I think it boils down to different person's perspective, liking and dislikes on certain books. We don't even look alike, let alone individual's preference.

Personally, i have always like 'unique' read that most friend doesn't like. But i think it's good since I'm not a good follower in trends and prefer to find and try something that is not socially popular, which i know, i will more likely dig that and i don't have to explain much since i know they won't be interested, although i like to see like-minded people who like similar stuff and can really discuss about it.

Can only say: What work for me is poison for the others, and vice versa.

My worst nightmare is those stupid "If you like this you will like [fill in the blank]"
I usually HATE what they think I will like.

The best recommendations so far for books has been on Library Thing under their Recommendations.  They are getting it about 75% right which is very very unusual for me.  If they hit about 20% usually I feel lucky.  Goodreads stuff is a nightmare which was prob why I didn't  miss it when it broke for about a year.

Nope, doesn't bother me the least.  Since everybody's taste is different.

What really bothers me is that the preview of the book is actually better than the book itself!  >:(

Everyone has different tastes. And...sometimes some people who review.... I know one I had a  huge difference in opinion about this... flip thru and just pick out enough to write the review without actually reading the book. The lesson here is to rely on the opinions of friends with similar taste. My acquaintance got points or something for so many reviews and never read half the books. At least I read every one I ever submitted a review for.  I have received a few that I submitted no review because I could not think of a positive thing to say about.  A book that could not draw me in at all is hard to review. ( Need A laugh? Read some of the reviews on Amazon.)
We all come with different experiences and likes and almost everyone here feels that way and respects each others taste in literature, even if they don't personally read it. That's why I love it here. Everyone is fantastic.
All you mods... take a bow.
Your hard work is much appreciated.

I don't read reviews. The few times I did, my opinion was the opposite of was the review said.
I just look a titles, then at the back cover, and if I like the story, I buy the book. I actually never bought a book that I don't like.

I hate those as I've been sucked in a few times myself. Some books are just a waste of my time especially since once I start a book I just have to finish it. Even if I hate it. I can count on 1 hand how many books I've never finished.

Just say NO.

As I tell the kid, is anyone holding a gun to your head to make you do it?
In this case you are wasting time reading a book that stinks when you could be reading one that you enjoy.   Little secret?  You do NOT get any brownie points in life for not enjoying yourself.

You say that like I'll actually be able to implement it! I can't seem to help myself.  ^-^

Well heck, if you want to waste your time on a lousy book, as long as you enjoy it...

Well.. I tend to like books people didn't really like. Even some of my friends here. :D I also see some of my GR friends who commented or got reviews for that book that didn't really like it. But I still do read the book. Even after all the bad reviews cause I wanna know WHAT makes them think it's bad. Like for example, that Stormdancer book by Jay Kristoff. Alisa and the other says it's good. BUT some of my GR friends especially with Japanese backgrounds, didn't quite like it because of the use of the words.

I was debating on whether to read it or not at first. BUT curiosity got to me. I read the book. I admit it's bad, the part where there're lots of misused Japanese words. But after passing that... I rated it 4 stars. Regardless of the way the words are used, I liked the story. So yeah, it's a matter of opinion. You should read what you want. If you think you'll enjoy the book, enjoy it. There might be bad reviews about the book, but hey, at least you tried (you could go ahead and rant after it if you don't like it. :P) and if you do end up liking the book, good for you and just ignore the bad reviews. :)

Do not be disheartened to read a book just because it got lots of bad reviews. If that's what you really want, go and read it. :)

I used do this too but stopped, there are some books that just aren't worth the time  :(

I will read the review but will still give a book a chance even if others didn't like it.

We all have different taste and the book just may interest you even though others found it awful.

I usually will give a book 3-4 chapters and if it doesn't grab me then it goes in the "already read" pile.
