Hollywood picking up a new movie

Movie is a brilliant little New Zealand film called  HOUSEBOUND

Kylie (Morgana O'Reilly) is a would-be thief that is sentenced to eight months of house arrest after she's caught trying to rob an ATM machine. She's forced to move back in with her well-meaning mother Miriam (Rima Te Wiata), much to Kylie's disdain, as Kylie thinks little of her mother's claims that the house is haunted. She's later horrified when strange things seem to happen around the house, prompting Kylie to begin to believe that her mother may just be right. Her attempts to try to tell people that they may have a malevolent spirit in the house is met with surprising cheer, as they seem to think that having a ghost around would be a good thing.

My complaint is   why do they do that?

The American Television studios do it as well    we had a brilliant series called Outrageous Fortunes  that the american networks loved and picked up   but decided to re shoot   then they changed all the characters :-* names  their jobs  their locations  their way of life  and then of course half the script  ( mainly because New Zealander's are a little more liberal at what they can show on tv)   and it didn't go down well    yet the original series which shows on some little  channels is loved by those that watch it.

Wich they would come up with their own idea......   my gripe over
I am not a complete idiot, some parts are missing    :)
