How You Discover New Music?
« on: January 16, 2012, 12:00 PM »
I've listened to many artists and some of them I follow with a passion and just recently I've learned of some new artists while watching shows, so I wanna know how do you discover new music and new artists?
Hawke: "At least it can't get any worse. Not today, anyway. It's pretty late."

Hawke: "With a name like that, he's sure to go MUHAHA at some point, I'm sure of it."

Usually by watching movies, TV shows and anime.  I've discovered a bunch of Japanese artists I like by watching anime.

Well, before my laptop went all wonky and decided to die on me, I used to prowl YouTube. Now since I use my iPod for everything, I downloaded Raditaz app. This app is pretty much my love. Got me into a ton of artists I had no idea existed. Another site I used to use was mp3chief or mp3skull. They have top songs around the world and a lot of popular songs on their site. Pandora was okay but I didn't like how it kept crashing on my iPod. Lastfm is just okay as well. I really recommend Raditaz, especially now I found a way to skip the hour wait to change a song after six times on a station.
Lately, I've been into Barcelona, Fallbrooke, Mark Ronson, and a lot of classical music.

Oh, yeah L'Arc-en-Ciel is a great Japanese band!  But most of the stuff I like listening too is from the mid 80s to the early 90s anime.  Music by Hironobu Kageyama, Kahoru Kohiruimaki, Crystal King or Kodomo Band.

Aya Kamiki is an great Japanese Rock artist.

I forgot about my college org. They're the main cause of my addiction to JE bands. Although right now, Im somewhat rehabilitated but still I got Gazette (Lexie is behind that, Im listening to Cassis) and DAI - I super love their latest album.  ;D

Zhadist: How about bASStard?

Youtube mainly lol

I'll be listening to old songs n what not.. then just keep clicking on the suggestions box thingy..
or go onto Worldstarhiphop.. but that usually only shows hip-hop or rap... Not really my scene.. unless the tune is catchy :D

I use to go onto those music sites like im1music or rnbexclusive (although im pretty sure they're shut-down lol)

I always check US, UK, French, and Europe music charts. I always find new music on the UK charts.
Also, I am a TVD (The Vampire Diaries) fan and when I hear an awesome tune, I make sure I get it in my library. Glee also presents us with lots of oldies that we've never heard before.
Closing songs in movies are always good music.

I love underground and obscure music. I discover new music through last.fm similar/recommended artists, lists on rate your music, youtube channels, and specific blogs and forums :)

oh and my online friends who have the same music taste like me  ;D

Spotify is the best. You can listen to every song from every album of every artist out there.

Rolling Stone (the magazine) has a free mp3 daily download. It has mostly indie artists but you can find some new, interesting artists there.
