What do songs do you listen to while reading
« on: February 09, 2009, 12:28 AM »
An interesting thought hit my mind the other day while reading book. "Wow, this would be kick ass with music!".
And so I started listening to different songs while reading it.
Anyone have any prefrences? You can get mine here::

like Yin03 any mellow song will do but if one of the songs in my playlist is a fave of
mine I stopped reading and will start singing instead...  but if I really like the book
I'm reading I tend to avoid listening to music and concentrated on that book....

This is interesting. I always listen to music while reading. i tend to relate the music with the story and i adore it. Can tell you that i find reading in silence boring and gets me sleepy.

I usualy listen to banda like band (mexican band)

That's strange because I can't possibly concentrate on reading if I'm listening to something. And while I'm reading, I block out everything. Sometimes I didn't even hear somebody talking to me. I don't know how you can manage to do both things.  ;)

I knoooow!!! I can't do that either, I'm just so completely absorbed in my book i don't hear anyone or anything, but there have been exceptions and sometimes I do listen to music but the music has to be really soft or i can't concentrate.

Some of my favorites, are coldplay, flyleaf, florence and the machine, switchfoot, camila, snow patrol, etc. ^^ too long of a list......hehehe

I listen to music that I don't understand (KPOP,etc), instrumental versions of songs, soundtracks or classical music. It really depends on the book I'm reading though.  8)

you just gave me an idea, maybe i'll do the same cause since I won't be able to understand a single word then i won't get distracted from my reading and actually enjoy both, music and reading :)

relaxation music.
Music is just for the background, to keep me from reacting to every sound from outside, so I can dive deep in the book.

I usually just put my phone on shuffle & hook it up to my speakers.
Put the bass up & just let the music flow.. or thump lol
Mixture between rap, r&b, reggae & pop..
But i like R&B best. Usually sets me in motion haha

ALWAYS gotta have music when i read.
It helps me transport into my bookworld ;)

I don't think there's anything more intense and emotional (reading wise) than when the book you're reading and the song you picked out for it just come together and heightens your book experience altogether. i feel it works best when you pick ONE song that sort of mesh well with the book and the leave it on repeat.

A perfect example would be Kristen's Ashley's Breathe, coupled with Ella Mae Bowen's 'Holding Out For A Hero' (as suggested by the author.. i think). Or Veronica Roth's Divergent combined with M83's 'Wait'.

If you've got something to read and want a suggestion as to what to listen to, feel free to pm me and ill help you pick it out. Feel like i got a knack for this type of thing.
Who knows, might even give up med school and make a living out of this

I am not much of a multitasker, so reading a book and being able to fully focus on the plot is best done with total concentration. When i listen to music, i also like to be able to appreciate the lyrics and beat. But sometimes i really just want to do both, which is why i have a whole playlist of instrumentals and songs without a bridge or chorus or anything like that. Just songs with music and a limited amount of lyrics. Some examples are:

12 Hours, 630 Miles by Dance Gavin Dance (both Jon and Jonny sound so much better actually singing than screaming, which pretty much makes this song great)
Team by Bon Iver (Bon Iver is just lovely, I recommend any song by them and/or the lead singer, Justin Vernon)
Worlds End In Whispers, Not Bangs by A Skylit Drive
Kings and Chandeliers by Isles and Glaciers
Oceans for Backyards by Isles and Glaciers
Percipere by VersaEmerge

Go listen, then get back to me for more, lyrics or instrumental!
