If I'm correct you need some kind of book scanner to convert a hard copy book to ebook?
If so is their a scanner that is preferred? It there already a tutorial on this website that explains the process?
Thank you!

We don't have a tutorial on this site for this subject.   And I'm not sure we have any members who do this.

You may want to read this:  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

You want the part called:  Converting dead trees

Thank you.  Did some research and it seems to be time consuming and expensive (equipment )
I had wanted to see if it would be possible because I'm tired of my 10 year old carrying around many heaven texts books when there is no reason for it any more. We moved to a small town a couple years ago and asked the school about ebook editions and they looked at me like I was speaking another language. I know the ebook editions are out there. Do you know of a site like this for textbooks?
Thanks again.

I assume you are looking for that age group?  No.  I know of a couple sites that  have college text books but not grade or high school.

if you search the name of the book and authors plus ebook on google, it will tell you if there are ebooks out there.

Actually overdrive has many textbooks for the younger kids. You should check with your local library and see what is available digitally in your area.

They do?  Neither Free Library of Phila or Capital Area offer any textbooks.

heck it is hard to get a etext for college books let alone kids..

You might also google textbooks and rent.  There are sites that allow you to rent them but I'm not sure they offer kids.

Thank you. I contacted the publisher of the schools texts books and turns out our school does have access to eversions, when I emailed the teacher to let her know what I found out she had no idea, so I gave her all the I contact information they need to get it going. Hopefully they will do it. I offered to set it up because it is time consuming to enroll every child and assign them an access code. So far it sounds like they want to do it.
Thank you everyone for your help!!

My grand is home schooled. That's the only reason I thought of it. Plus your willingness to help set this up is awesome.

For any other people who are interested in scanning, any flatbed scanner plus Abbyy Finereader is the way to go. You should be able to scan most moderately-sized books in less than an hour.

That's what I was going to recommend.  Most middle/elementary school textbooks are available in eVersions that are available free if the school purchased the dead tree books.  I'm glad everything worked out.  If you happened to find one without the eBook, you can also ask your teacher if she has any extra copies that you can borrow for the semester and keep home.
Let all those believe, believe.  Let all those doubt, doubt.
