PDF to Epub: need help
« on: June 18, 2014, 02:24 PM »
There are lots of threads around here saying Calibre works well for pdf conversions ... I seem to be having absolutely no luck with it at all, and I'm hoping people have suggestions.

I've updated to 1.40, so it's the most recent version.

I've got a bunch of books ... young adult stuff, around 200 pp, but medium-size print, that are in pdf format, but I want to be able to read them on my ereader. The pdfs are hard to read on it. Some of the files are also huge, though some aren't. So online converters, which tend to top out at allowing you 10 MB aren't an option.

Every single pdf conversion I've tried, of these files and of random other pdfs, has produced the exact same thing: a two-page epub, with the cover as the first page and a faded-out version of the cover as the second page.

I've not changed any of the default settings; I'm simply using the convert feature in Calibre.

I'm stuck. What am I doing wrong? Everyone else seems to love Calibre for pdf conversion ...

Hey, well for the first PDF are like fixed formatted print, they are hard to convert the flow of text of a PDF file into a Epub/Mobi file.

and about file which are larger that is because the File is a Scan, and calibre is not a OCR reader, or doesn't have such feature which will allow you to convert the Scanned PDF (usually the file which are bigger in size are scans from Physical books), So that is 2 page file for you

And PDF is very hard to Convert format. That's all i am gonna say, i prefer EPUB and don't like PDF converted books myself too, because they just are so messy conversion.

I have the best luck using Mobipocket Creator, convert the pdf to mobi, then use calibre to convert it to epub. Usually, it works ok, but sometimes, those stupid headers (title, authors name, page number) will NOT go away.
