Favorite novel to movie/TV series adaptations
« on: May 31, 2012, 12:21 AM »
Hi guys!  :)
Since one of Hollywood's favorite things to do right now is to adapt popular novels into movies or TV series. I thought it would be good idea to ask what your favorite novel to movie/ TV series adaptations are. It can be Ya/ fiction/ fantasy / romance etc..
I'd also like to know what upcoming novel adaptation are you excited about.
Which novel/novel series you want to be made into a movie or TV series.
Which actor/actress you want to portray the characters.
Which is your least favorite novel adaptation.

You could have more than one favorite or least favorite.

If people say they just love the smell of books, I always want to pull them aside and ask, To be clear, do you know how reading works?

The Illiad is one of my favorite epic poems to read too :) do you like any other poems based on Greek tales like the Illiad and odysessy? (Katzis)

I have an ongoing love affair with Greek mythology - it all began with Enid Blyton's retelling of Greek legends for children, when I was about 3yrs old, and has grown to encompass Sumerian, Egyptian, Roman, Norse, Celtic, African, Asian, Indian, North & Sth American, Scottish myths & legends and more as well as our own Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime stories. I am endlessly fascinated by the original tales as well as some of the excellent modern reworkings/usages which are available. One of my favourites is The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood, which offers Penelope's view of events in The Odyssey. I have uploaded a Rainer Maria Rilke poem for you that deals with the Orpheus/Eurydice myth which you might be interested in - written in about 1908.
If you wanted to try something based in a different culture: Seamus Heaney's Beowulf translation is one of the best works you will ever come across. He has taken the Saxon poetry and remade it for a modern audience while remaining true to the sense and cadence of the original - it is a masterpiece. Kat :)

Me too. My Lit major was on Myth & Ideology - so we studied originals and then the differing way the themes have been used through the ages by authors/poets - I was in absolute hog heaven. (and did a whole unit on fairytales, which was just icing on the cake ) :) :) :) :) :) Was it Heaney's translation you read? - sorry, I can't help going on about it - he is on my list of best ever poets  :) Kat

No probs, I really do have to go to bed now - small thing called work in the am - bummer. but I've got spare time later in week so I'll sort them a bit and do an upload. don't forget to search on here too - there are a lot of retold fairytales posted. e.g Sheri S Tepper, Robin McKinley, Mercedes Lackey, Angela Carter. Do you have Joseph Campbell's T'he Hero with a Thousand Faces' or Fraser's 'The Goldn Bough'? If not I'll pop them up too. cheers Kat

All I can say is I can't wait for The Hobbit to come out :)
I loved LOTR movies (though of course, I always prefer the books).

One of the newer romance novel adaptations, The Vow... I have a thing about Channing Tatum *sigh*

Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland?
seriously? esther do you know how this guy looks like?
I could not believe that have Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace.  All wrong!!!!! :-[    He was alright playing Arthur in Camelot but hes too straggly to play Jace.  Total turn off!!!!!
I love Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Vampire Diaries (way better than the books), TrueBlood, and Twilight.  I also cant wait for the Dark Hunter series to be a TV series and Chronicles of Nick to become movies......so excited.
