NO BOOK POSTINGS ARE ALLOWED ON THIS SITE

Hello, all :)

I know there's already an 'Introduce Yourself' thread up on the main page but I thought I'd put one up  here in the Cafe as well (so it's just for us book readers). Please take a moment to drop in and say hi, maybe tell us a little bit about yourself....or just tell us what type of books you like to read.

!!

Warning ! Please do not post any personal information that may be used to identify your person outside of this site, such as your place of residence, age, or real name. This information may be used with harmful intent.

Note: Since our policy for uploading books has changed to not allowing books to be uploaded, the bar at the top was changed to reflect this to prevent confusion.    The policy is we do not allow copyrighted published books uploaded on this site.

Ow yeah I know that feeling  ^-^ especially when I started a good book but can't finish it on time. Then the whole day at work I'm looking forward to continue reading!

It takes you a month to read one book Filo.  :P
If people say they just love the smell of books, I always want to pull them aside and ask, To be clear, do you know how reading works?

You sound like my daughter! Hopefully she'll be done with school by the time she's 40. She's changed her major a few times, got married, 3 kids, the usual lol.

I prefer Jude Deveraux or Roberta Gellis but them I'm a bit older than you I'm guessing.  :)

I'm Mark - love to read and have been doing so to a greater/lessor degree since the 2nd grade.  I blame my mother who used to drop me off at the library as a "babysitter" when I was kindergartner age while she led a Brownie troop!  Been addicted ever since (read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the 3rd grade - was reading at a 12th grade level in the 6th grade - received a certificate for checking out 88 books from the school library in the 8th grade...  >:D )  Unfortunately due to time committments - most of my reading now days is a little each night before bed and when I get away on vacation!  My main focus is SciFi & some fantasy, followed by thrillers, some horror (gotta love Stephen King!), historical fiction, and military fiction/non-fiction.  Some of my favorite authors are Larry Niven, S.M. Stirling, Jerry Pournelle, John Ringo, C.J. Cherryh and Elizabeth Moon to name a few of the top.

Haven't been thru all the postings, but I seem to be the first male - and the eldest member.
Been reading since I was able. Write, too. Much published stuff: novel, plays, stories, essays,
poetry (West and Asian), articles, essays. Originally from New York City - have now lived in Mexico 25 years.
My tastes usually (not always) run to fiction - well-written mandatory. Enjoy well-researched historical, especially.
Beyond "threat of end-of-the-world," will someone define "dystopia" in reference to current fiction tastes?

Ex-pat New Yorker living in Mexico - oft-published novelist, short stories, articles, essays, plays, poetry, haiku, etc. Theatrically active. Enjoy historical novels - especially placed in ancient settings, but well researched/written.

Dystopian: The opposite of  utopia.

A dystopian society is usually a futuristic one, in which the laws and morals that govern the people within it have regressed to the point of repression or loss of human rights, designed by the author to highlight and explore the flaws in his current society.

Funny, really. My new novel, Dorian's Worlds - due out in February - has as its base a dystopian
society. I wrote it without even knowing the type of society had a name.
Thanks, Nina8
