Please be aware that we have long since finished this.  We NO LONGER ALLOW SHARING OF EBOOKS on this site.  Please do not post a book, it will be removed.  Please do not post a link.  It will be removed.

Dear members

We are in progress of migrating have migrated the site to a new name and defining defined new guidelines. One of the most important is to discontinue hosting ebooks on our website so that we are DMCA compliant.

Over next few days STP's team of Moderators will be deleting all posts from all the Boards containing books and book requests.   These have been deleted.

Please do not make any further book uploads on the site.

Thank you for your understanding.

Note: We will review the new rules when the site is fully migrated, so if you have any suggestions please let us know by contacting one of our Mods.

I just want to thank everyone for their generosity in sharing books in this community. As a book lover I can see why there can be no more sharing of books as authors have many copyrights but I also can see that people should have the right to share books they buy with each other to increase community ties as well as spreading the word for many unrecognized authors. I want to thank the moderators and hope the new direction we are going in can have some sort of compromise with authors to allow sharing once more.  ;D

I loved this site, not only for the books, but the subject material.  For those of you that are critizing the moderators, I can't understand where you are coming from!  A place to find books with a specific genre that I look for, come on!  Please, please understand that this was and is something to be appreciated, not attacked.  I know how it is to not be able to afford books, I go to half price books, and I understand.  But this site gave me insite into the exact genre I was looking for.  Thank you too much moderators!  You are truly awesome! :-*

I am still rather new and was shocked to find this site from the beginning and knew it was too good to be true so I did get all the books by my favorite authors and I greatly appreciate it!  I know you all worked hard to keep it organized and keep everyone happy.  It's been years since I've been a mod of a forum such as this.  We provided cheats for a certain gaming site and though the risk of suit wasn't that great there's still a ton more issues involved and after a few changes and new site names everyone finally threw in the towel.  At least there was still a ton of other activity here to keep people involved.

I am appalled, actually sick to my stomach, at some of the behavior here I feel the need to apologize and say that not all of us are ungrateful brats.  I know the laws on piracy and was aware of the opt out list BUT as one person stated, the copywrite on the books is an opt out in it's own.  It's like a bank robber's lookout getting mad because they're not robbing banks anymore!  They enjoyed having something for nothing but don't realize they're just as guilty as the person robbing the bank.  I don't know any of you personally but I'm sure that it's going to be hard knowing you've put a lot of hard work into this and keeping it up and then to have to disappoint everyone and deal with the backlash.

It was a good try and I hope that this site can stay somewhat active and don't let anyone get you guys down!  You all did the best you could and did what needed to be done to fund the site to keep it up and running for all us to enjoy.

Thanks again!  I still am super happy with the books I was able to get!  I'll be busy for a while anyways.
Regards,
Sheetal

I totally understand that the moderators have to do this, but I'm pretty sad about it. I'm not American so most of the books that I love never came to be published here. Some are indeed published, with translations so bad that make my heart cry. I'm Brazilian by the way, and I'm sorry if my grammar is not perfect. Ok, ok, we have to consider the poor, poor authors that lost lots of money... But I'm selfish bastard, so sue me.

I will really miss the sharing here, and I’m a new member.

If you guys want to talk books more privately or if you want to send me some interesting books (Is it allowed?), feel free to contact me anyway you can. I wrote my email here first, but a friendly member of STP (Esther) adviced me to remove, so I did.

Look I completely understand the problem you guys are facing, the government is closing in and you want to do the right thing but i don't think you guys understand just what this site means to all the users.
Its a well known fact that over half the users are here for the free ebooks and that once you remove them then were would we turn to . Online sharing is something that the government can not stop no matter how hard they try people will ALWAYS upload and others will ALWAYS download, thats just the way it is.
STP is something that i discovered by chance and ever since that day i have faithfully come here to find out new release and get books that i obviously cant get . Lemme tell you guys something i live in a country where i cant just pop down to the local drug store and buy a book; its called Nigeria check it out. STP has helped me overcome that hurdle and quite frankly if this is taken away then im not sure what im going to do. Books serve as my escape now im not saying im miserable or anything like that but its nice for me to be able, even if its just once in a while, to delve into the drama of some protagonist.
If you guys stop sharing e-books then you are just conforming to the norm.
Please try to understand what this site means to us try to see things from our POVs. STP if you stop sharing E-books then you have admitted defeat.
Raju.

We can share what we have already among each other. Even if there's plenty of bookstores where I live, an imported book cost much, much more than it’s worth, even if it’s a good book. Some of the books that I care to do the math to buy, you know the book itself and the freight and all that, cost at least $50. Well, I’m not miserable, but I’m not rich either… I could buy ebooks, but it’s so difficult to do this from here that I just gave up.

Hi, I've been a member of this site for just a few weeks and I must say its sad to see what's happening. However I'll like to commend you guys for being able to come up with such original features for this site and being able to maintain it.

I'm no expert at any of this but I was wondering if it may be possible for us to implement same or similar policies and regulations that sites like 4shared and torrent download sites use? Or perhaps those used by ebook stores that avail free ebooks to us?

Another idea I've been contemplating is this: can we make book requests, here, on this site, and post or email addresses along with them and  share that way? Not that we'll stop using this site of course, its just to share externally. Can that be possible?  Perhaps you can use that idea and formulate it into something more practical. I was thinking along the lines of which Microsoft Outlook is used in a working
environment. I don't know....... I just would really like for this site to continue.

Thanks and Good luck!

I'm not sure that is a good idea, you know, posting email addresses. This site can be googled, once googled, your post could be seen by anyone even though they are not a member of stp. We can't be sure that all people who use google are all friendly and harmless. I mean, what if it's a hacker or something? I was once hacked by someone outside my country but thankfully, gmail prevented that.

Just saying that posting email addresses can be harmful to you.

I'm pretty sure STP cannot dictate or enforce what you are and are not allowed to EMAIL each other - but I know that idea is not endorsed either.
I do agree with everyone else who has stated here & elsewhere that it is not a good idea to post your email address on a public forum like this.  If you do, be prepared for the SPAM emails that follow when a search bot picks up on it - and they will!
I would say that any exchanging you do needs to be done privately, amongst yourselves, & not involve the STP website in anyway.  In other words, if you feel comfortable enough giving someone your email address in a private message to them, then do so.  But then make all your requests to each other directly using email addresses, not the STP forum.  Requests made in the STP forum will simply be deleted by a Moderator.

“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat, "We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”
