I'm going to politely disagree on this.  Except some rewrites of Twilight, almost all fanfiction are original stories.  They just use characters we know and love to get a start.  And when you are OOC a writer really is writing an original story because they have to change the characters personalities as well. 

But I do agree it is disappointing that she won't admit it started as a fanfiction.  It's a great  way to get your story critiqued and there are some really great betas out there that will help you write your stories and fix all the errors.  So when it's done, it is almost publishable.

Sorry, I think I didn't explain myself clearly.  I didn't mean that the story itself wasn't original.  What I meant was that by posting it (whether it was just 1 chapter or completed in full) on ff.net under the Twilight heading and using the characters, like you said that we know and love, the author used the Twilight derivative.  I don't read much slash, but my friends who do, ONLY read definatelystaying's TFR because it was an Edward/Jasper story.  They would not have read it if it was a Harry/Ron or Picard/Spock fanfic.   By using the character names, the author still gained a reader audience that read his/her story, because s/he used the character names, however OCC or AU it was.  That doesn't negate the originality of the plot or storyline from the author, but when it was posted as a Twilight fan fiction, then I believe it's misleading to say to new readers of the published work and the loyal fanfic readers that read it as a Bella/Edward (or whatever Twilight character pairing) that it had original origins. 

I agree that writing fanfic is a good way to for a writer to get a start; it is one way for writers to get immediate feedback on their writing style, storytelling abilities, etc. and tweak and further develop their writing abilities and, at the same time, write about the characters they enjoyed reading or watching.  Would I purchase the fics that I read for free just because they now have new character names, little to no significant changes, and very little editing done to them in their published format?  Nope - most of the Twi-fics I read were because the Hero and the heroine had the names Bella and Edward.  This doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them as fanfic and it doesn't mean that I won't be supportive of a fanfic author whose writing style I liked, if and when the author publishes a good Original Fiction story (never posted as a Twilight fic).  However, I do applaud definatelystaying for taking her fanfic stories/ideas and actually expanding them into what I've been told is a very popular M/M series.  Unfortunately, that's not the case in many instances; some that I've seen are just basic name changes.
 
Did that make sense?  I'm going on 4 hours of sleep in the last 50 hours so hopefully I'm being less ambiguous about what I meant in my original post.  BTW, this is just my stance and I am only explaining my own op.  I think p2p has become a touchy subject for the Twilight fandom, but I believe everyone is entitled to their opinions without bashing each other or the author(s).  When I stated "what is going on with these authors?" it was to express my confusion and disappointment at the distance some authors want to make from fan fiction and its' community now that they're published.  And it's an unfortunate slippery slope for writers who publish their fanfics, because readers (from the fanfic community and new) will wonder if a new story was originally a fanfic.   

Does anyone know what the names of the fics that are in the trilogy The Song Saga by Fiberkitty? I saw them mentioned in another post on our original thread, but I can't really find anymore info on them. I'm trying to hunt them down so if anyone knows, that would be fantastic

I think that's just She Sang The Wrong Song and Song of My Heart which are Bella/Jasper.  The first is BPOV and the second is JPOV.  Or maybe it's a trilogy with Blood Song as well?

And, from the little I've found, it looks like Blood Song may be Edward's POV of the other two?

I wish I knew the answer.  The Golden Lemon Awards are the ones that dragged me into the full fanfiction experience.  I was introduced to so many good fics through that site.
