OMG I have just read a mystery which also had a strong theme of Domestic Discipline.  My question is, are these people for real?  The male lead, punished the female lead because he had disobeyed him (you what?).  He spanked her until her bum was red and then took a wooden ruler to her, followed by a beating with a cane. Just to make sure she understood the lesson he finished off with a belt.  It was only once she was covered in welts from arse to heal that he was content.  Now call me naïve but that sounds like straight up abuse to me.  The female however, felt “loved” because although she was in great pain she knew he had punished her because he loved her.  Seriously???

:D :D :D You made me laugh! I guess it depends on how the author sets up the female's mind, but what you're describing sounds abusive. Big difference between that and a D/s relationship where the submissive seeks out punishment as part of his or her desire to find harmony by giving up control to another. It's horrible to read when the author fails at outlining the submissive's power and ultimate control over the actions taken within the relationship. When the author fails or writes it specifically as domestic discipline driven only by a domineering abuser, it can be horrifying to read.

I was wondering if anyone was reading. Also looking for rec's ladies. I dunno what I want to read.
FF or Books. I'm easy.

I am currently reading the latest book in Felicity Heaton's Angel series. Half way through. So I will need something soon.
So I tend to love the funny vampfics.

Bella with some backbone. A cynical smart ass who attracts the attention of the local brooding vampire, Edward Cullen. AU/OOC. Rated M for strong snark and lemons galore. Nominated for three Tomato Soup Awards!

There were lemons.  And Jesus is a vampire.  That whole three days, rising from the dead thing? Sound familiar?  However, there were a lot of SPaG errors, some of which added to the humor of the story.

Though when I think about it? It killed my kindle.  Right on the page where Jesus walks in and says "Let's have an Orgy!"  Sigh.  I must have missed the lightening bolt or something....  :D :D :D :D :D

I agree, this is not my cup of tea for sure.  It does sound like abuse.  And some people like that *cough masochists cough* I guess.  But I see a lot of teen fics with DD that just kind of squick me out. They put the warnings on it.  But it sounds like BDSM which should not be in a teen fic.  :P

I've never read any HP fanfiction, but I heard that the series by G. Norman Lippert, which is based on Harry's son James, is good. It's the only HP ff I've DL'd, but haven't tried it yet.

G. Norman Lippert - 01 James Potter and the Hall of Elders Crossing
Based upon the characters and worlds of J. K. Rowling, this book tells the story of Harry Potter's son James, and his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. James Potter and the Hall of Elders’ Crossing takes place 18 years after the Battle of Hogwarts and one year before the Epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, during the 2016 – 2017 school year.
405 Pages

G. Norman Lippert - 02 James Potter and the Curse of the Gate Keeper
A continuation of Lippert's previous novel, James Potter and the Hall of Elder's Crossing. This takes place where the epilogue of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows leaves off. It follows Harry's two sons, James and Albus in their adventures in Hogwarts.
459 Pages

G. Norman Lippert - 03 James Potter and the Vault of Destinies
Follow James and Albus along with the Potter family and friends on their adventures in America.
803 Pages

G. Norman Lippert - 04 James Potter and The Morrigan Web
Based upon the characters and worlds of J. K. Rowling, this fourth book tells the story of Harry Potter's sons James & Albus and their adventures back in Hogwarts!

EDITED TO ADD from the web site [my italics]: "these stories are not written by J. K. Rowling (obviously) they, and other such stories, have been sanctioned by her, so long as they are respectful and appropriate for children. I have been in contact with Ms. Rowling's literary agency (after they were asked by the press if the James Potter stories and websites were secretly her creation). They have been very cordial and encouraging, even going so far as to actively deny erroneous press allegations that Ms. Rowling intended to sue me. For that, I thank them!

"For what it's worth, I have worked very hard to keep the James Potter stories true to Ms. Rowling's canon and literary style, while obviously injecting my own original themes, characters and settings. For the true canon-police, there are indeed some errors and mistakes. For those who merely love the Harry Potter stories, however, I don't expect that such trivialities will detract from your ability to enjoy my tales."

Thanks for this.  I love the HP fandom. :)

I suppose each to their own but damn, anyone trying to do that to me better learn to sleep with their eyes open.   At least in BDSM the sub gets a safe word, there is no such thing in DD. shudders.

I liked Creatures of Habit. A good read.

All this talk of vampwards have me remembering the good ole days...like Hide & Drink by Savage7289. Oh, and I really enjoyed Just4ALE's An American Vampire in Chicago series.

Talking to my bbf, it sounds like I will enjoy Creature of Habit. Both POV. Tortured Edward will do anything to get over his thirst to be with her and then has to protect her.

The Only thing the Endurers had in common with my boys was that they're tall, built and wear leather. The writing was shocking and you can forget about the lemons just eww

Sounds horrifying. I agree with the :pulling: . It's books like those that give BDSM a bad rap. I feel that way about all the forced slavery books too. Those and the DD books belong in their own category far away from the safeworded ones.

I got burned out on BRB too. Love Zsadist.
Book 1 ok
Book 2 -better
Book 3 - LOVEEEEED
Book 4 ok.
Never made it past that. I was expecting each book to get better and better. I skimmed all the lesser parts. When 4 wasn't as good as 3...I stopped. Of course I read all of them back to back. Maybe that is why I got burnt out.

Funny lemony Vampward  :)

I'm reading Clementines, what I've rec'd some posts up, a Bella/Carlisle story and I like it even the 2nd time around.

When I'm cleaning I'm listening to the first book of the Matched trilogy by Ally Condie. It's YA, the love triangle is meh, but the details of the way they are living? Drives me crazy! Cause it is very very close to my childhood, just with more technologies. Total surveillance, having your life mapped out for you by the government... rules everywhere...

Being a GDR kid I see a lot of similarities and that makes me think, what would have been when there hadn't been the German reunification. How would I live? I don't think I'd been allowed to go to university, I'd never met my hubs, I couldn't have stayed home with the kids... I'd never read Twilight and so never met you! Internet would be strictly censored...

So, I like it and I will give it to my daughter to read when she is old enough and tell her that this could have been her life...

Taste of Innocence is a wonderful fic, the scene where “wakes up" still has me in stitches as does the scenes where she meets the cow.  I keep asking Nolebucgrl to write a sequel but she is resisting. :(

Is each BDB book separate more-or-less? I was waiting for the series to complete before starting it, but if it's not necessary to read them in order, I might give a couple of them a try...

Larissa Ione
« Reply #120 on: October 10, 2013, 02:58 PM »
Anyone read anything by Larissa Ione?
She just published a vamp one and I have many of her books on my TBR list.

Larissa Ione's bestselling Demonica series has captivated fans with its sensual blend of dark passion and demonic fury. Now she takes you to another intoxicating world—where a dangerous clan of wild vampires rules the night...

Bound By Night

A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD

Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE

A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

Nicole Martin was only eight years old when she narrowly survived a massacre: her family’s vampire slaves rebelled and killed everyone in her household. Twenty years later, Nicole now dedicates herself to finding a vaccine against vampirism…and eradicating the gruesome memories that give her nightmares.

Riker, a member of the wild vampire Moon Clan, is haunted by his own demons—his wife Lorraine had been captured and enslaved by the Martin family. It was during a botched escape attempt that she was killed, along with their unborn child. Still wracked with grief and anger, Riker is now fueled solely by the desire to rescue vampire slaves…and slaughter their owners.

When Riker stumbles upon Nicole in a chance meeting, he immediately recognizes her as a member of the Martin family that once enslaved his wife—and she recognizes him as the wild vampire she saw kissing a pregnant slave in the moments before her violent death—an image that has haunted her dreams for years.

When Riker kidnaps Nicole and they spend a night together in a cave on the way back to his clan, suddenly they begin to realize that they aren’t as different from one another as they may have thought—and they’re finding themselves drawn to one another…
