I can't watch Dr Who.

The walking garbage bins used to scare the bejeebus out of me - to the point that my mum had to turn the tv off if the theme music started!

I react to that the same way most people would react to the theme from Jaws!

I didn't discover it until David Tennant was on it. I'd heard of it, but we didn't get it in the US.

Back in the olden days (1980's), Australia only had 4 channels.

Channel 2 is and was the ABC - the Australian Broadcasting Corporation - government owned and funded tv and radio.

The other 3 commercial channels all aired the evening news at 6pm. Channel 2 aired Dr Who at 6pm.

Every Aussie over the age of 35 knows this hysterical joke:

Knock, Knock.
Who's there?
Dr
Dr Who?
Dr Who from Channel 2!

When they ran out of Dr Who episodes each year, they would air The Goodies or Monkey Magic.

But I love the big bang theory.

I'm not the best person to be educating you on Dr Who - I really am terribly scarred by it!

Good afternoon to everyone. Just popping in to say that I won't be on much at all over the next 4 weeks. It's crunch time at Uni and Honours is kicking my bum. Handed one essay in today, have another one due Wednesday, a piece due Friday, presentation on Monday and then only two weeks until 2 4000+ word major essays are due. On top of that I have to do monumental amounts of reading for my thesis. As a result PTS is very low on my list of priorities (but higher than FF!). I've not even been able to read real books

. You know your life is sad when you spend all weekend at Uni in the library. This shall be my life for the next 4 weeks, library from 8am till 8pm...

but then you'll have holidays - uni holidays that stretch for months!

I love Dr Who! And now, hearing the theme song, I'm off to watch an episode (or two!) And if any of you like Neil Gaiman he wrote a Dr Who episode a few years ago called 'the Docor's Wife" and another one called "Nightmare is Sllver" which is set to air next week!

Dr Who is not famous here. I only heard about it after I started reading fanfic.

Ella and Astro, try mixing condensed milk with chocolate powder ( about 4 spoons - the big one, not dessert) on a pan. Don't need to leave it on for too long. Just as it start to boil turn it off. And then put it on the freezer. It's soooo creamy. Love it.

Since alcohol doesn't seem to agree with me anymore I guess I'll have to stick with my sugar addiction.

LOL! They were playing old episodes the other day. So bad. The acting was bad. The effects were horrible. But I could see that it would be scary to a kid. It reminded me of original Star Trek. Which was so amazing when it first came out. But is awful when you watch it now.

Though really? My memory of Star Trek is I never saw the ending of a episode. My dad would come home halfway through and change the channel to the news. We had about 8 or 10 channels. Though none was CNN or MSNBC. we couldn't afford cable.

I rarely watch the news anymore.

I don't know if it airs where I live and If it does it's probably in the channels I don't have . But It's on Netflix and I will give it a try.

As I said earlier, Blink from season 3 is a great episode. I didn't like the first season of the new series when I first watched it. Then they got David Tennant. Sigh. After that, I watched every episode. The new doctor is okay. Not as cute as David but he plays the part well. And I loved Amy Pond. She might be my favorite companion.

I'm with you on this. I spent most episodes of Dr Who hiding behind the settee when I was younger. I haven't watched it since!
