Please be aware that we have long since finished this.  We NO LONGER ALLOW SHARING OF EBOOKS on this site.  Please do not post a book, it will be removed.  Please do not post a link.  It will be removed.

Dear members

We are in progress of migrating have migrated the site to a new name and defining defined new guidelines. One of the most important is to discontinue hosting ebooks on our website so that we are DMCA compliant.

Over next few days STP's team of Moderators will be deleting all posts from all the Boards containing books and book requests.   These have been deleted.

Please do not make any further book uploads on the site.

Thank you for your understanding.

Note: We will review the new rules when the site is fully migrated, so if you have any suggestions please let us know by contacting one of our Mods.

are you just logging in for the first time since this happened?  because if so, a 12 hour notification would have done you no good.  nor would a 24 hour.  nor a 48 hour.  nor a 72 hour.  (i could go on.)  it's been this way for a week.  just sayin'...

I think it could have made huge differences for some, especially discussions that hosted lists with all of the books they housed, at least the title information could be saved so people could have a reading list to refer to in the future. That alone makes a huge difference, imo.

I don't think it's STP's responsibility to make sure members download as many books/or copy as many list as they can before they discontinue.

I wasn't referring to downloading books, I specifically omitted that word.

Rather, many lists actually hosted a directory that listed every single book discussed in their topic. Being able to just copy-paste that list would be great in recreating the thread post-deletion without losing any information. All the important bits to have a discussion about would still be available even if the ebooks no longer would be.

that is a shame that some discussions have been lost.  who knows if they will be rebuilding them with the new launch - books omitted of course.  we need to have some patience with the admins during this transition.  we owe them that much after all they made possible for us.
in the meantime, you could always create a genre discussion thread here on the boards to recreate titles you may have lost & even get new ones.  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login is also a good resource for recommendations.
“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat, "We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”

on the new site maybe include an area where people can request if anyone is willing to share a book privately they can contact each other through membership. then it is a private thing not involving the mods or the site officially

Well, sharetermpapers can forget about more than half of their users. Everyone that I know of only uses this site for the very purpose of getting ebooks. What a bummer..

Rude much?

Will you pay the Moderators lawsuits, fines, and legal fees? I dont think so. A lot of us use the site for more than just getting free books. Understand the problem before moaning your loss of free books.

No wonder I couldn't find anything and my few posts were deleted  ???

this is sad news and abrupt but respected all the same  :(

I have a question - might sound dumb but still xD ... Since you guys said you were in the process of moving, does that mean eventually posting ebooks are possible or is the discontinuation set in stone?

Argh just when i was looking for one specific book n I have no doubt this site may have had it lol, just my luck eh   :( :( :( :(
Reading and Writing has become my sanity

I would like to discuss a solution so we can fix this problem. I am an avid reader and when reading "paper books" had a large group of people I shared books with...we each bought one book and shared with one another. Let's do the math...10 people each buying a book at let's say $10 a pop...Author makes $10 we each get to read 10 books...that's $1 per book. e-books are currently costing nearly as much as paper books. Their is no paper book to actually produce so the prices should be significantly less. I personally buy one or two e-book from each author I read then I get the others from a friend. The loss of e-book hosting on STP is a significant hardship for most...I can't afford to buy all of the e-books I read. I'll have to go back to buying second hand paperbacks. I understand authors expect to get paid for their work...we all do. But we shared paperbacks for years...right...we should be able to share our e-books as well. It's mine...I bought it...I want to share it! How can we fix this forward. I want STP  e-book hosting back ASAP!

I was quite startled last night when threads that were there one second had vanished into cyberspace the next (thought I'd somehow busted something  :D ).   I must admit I'm of 2 minds about the whole book-sharing/copyright thing.  If I buy a book in a shop, I can lend it to as many friends as I care to.  So it has been purchased once, but then it is lent around for free.  If I buy a video, I can also share it among my friends (I'm just not meant to show it for hire).  So if someone has bought an e-book, surely they too are entitled to share it among as many friends as they wish?  OTOH, electronics mean that a great many more people can share the original than is generally the case with a physical object (book, video, etc).  So the likelihood is that the creator is definitely missing out on a chunk of income.  I'm on the fence on this one.

However, thanks and congratulations to the Admin/Moderators for the work they've done thus far on running an excellent site.  I'm sure the new site will also be well run.
TTFN
I agree 100%...also they charge full new book price for the ebook and sell it over and over if I pay full price for something it is mine and I can do whatever I want with it! But this was great I really appreciate all STP did and got alot of great books.

They're not coming up with anything better for anybody - at least not in the ebook community regard. This "notice" says discontinuation and nothing more. You know. Just like that. In our faces. Like a slap.

Typically, it is a sign of courtesy to give notice (of just about anything in life) in advance. I suppose we were not worthy of such courtesy. It was so much more appropriate to just delete everything and forbid everyone to upload/download on the spot. Very tactful.

Lovely way to show appreciation to a large chunk of people that have provided a lot of your traffic here. Here in this place with all of its ads..

Thanks again moderators for your blatant disregard for any form of courtesy and or tact in this matter.

I don't see how you can blame the moderators...that's just silly. We likely didn't get notice because they fought to the bitter end. I am grateful for STP, hope it can be up and running with e-books again soon or at least be found elsewhere. Saying they lack courtesy and tact because they were forced to stop allowing e-book sharing...do you think they WANTED to have to do that. Perhaps you should consider a bit of courtesy and tact...and uh empathy.

Let's see...you registered in April 2011....made 1 post in over a year and gave 7 thank yous...if you (and half the people you know) used this site so much for "sharing ebooks" ...where are your posts, your shares...did you share anything? Where are your thank yous?  If all you did was pop on the site grab what you wanted and leave than you are not a big loss here imho.
