Australia is still in the 1990s when it comes to Internet connections! I paid $50 per month for 12gb and upgraded recently when I learnt how to d/l movies and tv, and discovered PTS! I now pay $60 a month for 50gb. If I exceed my limit, I don't get charged any more but it slows down to dinosaur era speed - like you can almost hear the modem screeching to connect!

I have a separate plan for my phone which gives me 2 gb per month but if I exceed that, I get charged at a phenomenal rate - the only time this happened, I had to pay an additional $265 for the month.

Update on the great computer war of 2012 - even though I haven't even gone into the study, somehow I didn't shut down the computer that I didn't even use - that's how hackers get in!!! Perhaps my dad is some top secret special agent with top secret files on his computer. Can't text, but is a prime target for computer hackers!

Bugger me! I think I need to start looking for old farts' home for the poor old delusional geriatric!!!

Sounds good - the Grey Goose I mean....

We were lucky that when we got our 1st Iphones, AT&T offered unlimited data for $25 a month on top of the monthly minutes fee. Since I use the internet/twitter/email/Amazon app/etc more than I make calls, this is so great. Otherwise my bill would be like yours.

Do you have phone connections for your internet? Or is it cable? I know at my last house, all that was available was DSL or local wifi. Neither was that good, but the DSL was better.

And? I can't believe your dad doesn't have an automatic shut down on his computer. Or a screen lock. So you can't get into the computer. Sigh. What kind of control freak is he anyway? I'm so disappointed.

We don't have the population in Australia so there's not a lot of competition with service providers. It's even worse in regional areas - remember I live just south of Whoop Whoop. I have broadband ADSL at home, and that gives me wireless throughout my house. That's the upper limit of my tech knowledge though.

My dad is fine in small doses. I'm halfway through my stay so things will improve over the next few days, then he'll remember that I'm going away again and that he'll miss me and he'll be my best mate again.

Yeah, we go through this EVERY year! I have gotten heaps of reading done, so that's a plus. He doesn't need a screen lock - I just don't touch the bloody thing - to avoid dramas like this! See how well that worked out???

My mum is a saint and has the patience of Solomon. Dad can be good too - he is most of the time, actually. He just gets psycho about his computer. I think it's because it's out if his comfort zone.

40 years of running his own business means that he is a major control freak.

That's where I get it from.

6 hours till the new year. My resolution should be to not let him get under my skin.

It's not though! Where's the fun in that! It was also going to be to cut back on swearing, but that will last for about 30 seconds so it might be just to cut back on the f bomb.

Weather has cleared so fireworks are on and grey goose is in the freezer.

Again, i had Rob in mind while reading these so Will Cooper here was a "perfect" hero. It's young adult, no lemons, but the stories were absolutely great! specially the 2nd one, haven't cried so much, the characters were great, it was soooo good...

Have a blast celebrating the New Year but be safe!!

Aw Astro2009, sorry to hear things are kinda tense. Ok, to hopefully put a smile and some laughter for at least the next few minutes, watch this clip (I've watched it from my iPhone many times for a laugh, so it should work for you).

I'm not really a fan of reality shows or talk shows, but the one talk show I do watch I absolutely LOVE. It's the Graham Norton show that I watch on BBC and I'm always smiling, laughing and giggling like a crazy loon at every show. This is a clip of an old episode with Chris Rock and Joshua Jackson, but the really funny part that had me LMAO starts at the 1:40 mark where Graham goes over a bunch of stuff kids wrote. Hilarious! My two faves of that part is the last two with hor(s)e sticker story and the "I want to be like my mommy" drawing. Oh shit, I'm laughing just remembering and now I have to watch again.

Yeah, I've lived in places like that, where you are lucky to have one provider. DSL was fine, except when my work made me use a Vonage phone on it. I should say the Vonage worked okay up until I tried to download a work file at the same time I was talking to someone. Wasn't good.

My dad is like that as well. We mostly get along....then he will make a comment. Usually because he knows what's best for me (

) and he can see I'm not doing it. I'm really good at ignoring that stuff. Otherwise I will go off on him. He has a hard time seeing anyone else's viewpoint. Unless it is on the news. Then it's true.

But really? Maybe you should show your dad how to lock the screen, then it can be on but people can't access it and use up his download time. He might actually feel more in control of his computer then. I've actually set my wifi to turn off after so many minutes of non-use using the device manager. It's partially for battery saving purposes and partially so hackers can't get in.

Okay, well it sounded good.

After attending some classes in IT security, I get a little freaked about these things. It slowly goes away.......

I'm reading Cracks in The Pavement and having a hard time distinguishing between this fic and Mamasutras. I'm not sure if I like it and I'm on chapter nine.
