So, I am in Dallas this week for a class. It is very humid here compared to where I live. The heat is about the same though. Hopefully the class is interesting.
God, Dallas is dry as the desert compared to Houston!
I'm in the midst of a Edward's Eternal marathon. It started when it was announced she was going to pull My Nightingale. So I decided I'd go back and read all the stories I hadn't read as WIPs. I think I might be re-reading some, as well. I like her writing since her stories tend to be low angst with really sweet Edwards. The Bellas can be a little clingy and unreasonably fearful, but that's okay because it gives Edward a chance to be really sweet and protective.
I usually like her stories except she also makes her Bella's blue eyed. It is just wrong. LOL!
I agree, but she doesn't do it in every story.
I am all about some Edward, but for some reason craving a good Bella/Jake story-- what's your fave?
That used to bother me too, but then I started reading a bunch of scifi/fantasy twific and features became more malleable. I'm in the midst of reading Star Crossed by tufano79 and Bella's people have amphibious traits, including breathable spots along the body and she has blue eyes. I'm now more in the 'whatever' category, though I like there to be a reason to break away from canon, and I'm more protective of Edward's features. For example, there is no reason to give Edward brown/black hair or grey/blue eyes in an AH contemporary fic. That does bother me.
While I love Sci Fi in general (Twi needs more sci fi), there's still almost no reason to give Bella blue, green or whatever eyes, unless you're going even more Mary Sue/self insert.
Yes, this. It is one thing to give Bella gills or whatever, but another to change eye color. Hair can be dyed. So the stories where Bella gets blonde highlights? I can deal with, going totally blonde? Not so much. There are just some things that should not change.
Hello everyone. I will start by apologizing for the non-fitting and vague title of this post. I am sorry but I can't find a good one (could you help me please?)Anyway, I am currently looking for fanfictions where Bella and Edward are in a relationship where Bella suffers from domestic violence (married or dating). For instance, I've read "the words of and abused wife", which I really like, but unfortunately it wasn't finished and I just can't find a similar story..I am quite fond of HEA (but it is ok if the story isn't finished, whether it is in progress or if the author doesn't plan on finishing it) and Edward repenting.Thank you so much for you very appreciated help!
It sounds like you mind less if the author changes her personality than her physical appearance, which parallels chatter I've seen elsewhere. I was reading a rather in-depth AN in response to a scathing review, which tumbled into other reviews, etc. The complaint was originally that she was tired of reading Bellas that aren't beautiful landing gorgeous Edwards. The author's defense -- Bella is beautiful, but she doesn't see herself that way (I think she was more voluptuous than usual) -- was overshadowed by reviewers challenging the 'rightness' of changing Bella's beauty. It was kind of funny to lurk over. I think it's complicated by Meyer's vagueness in the original. Just how attractive is Bella? Yeah, eye of the beholder and all that, but really: she calls herself plain Jane and has two super hotties tripping over themselves to gain her attention (though both of them see the world through skewed perceptions). Then there's all the attention of her classmates (though that could be just the newness factor). And now I am pontificating on this stupid unanswerable question. Ugh. Anyway, my remark is simply that it seems that readers have fewer issues with changing core values/personality traits than physical appearance. And that is (benignly) strange to me.
