Thanks for the concern! It hasn't hit manila yet as of this time. It's just dark outside with very little rain. But some other provinces are being hit already. the video of how strong those winds are are very scary Might reach my area a little later today. There are no classes in schools but am about to leave for work in a few minutes. Won't be surprised if i have to deal with floods on my home tonight.

I'm off to Houston, Texas for 10 days vacation. My first time...can't wait. Anyone rec anything for me to see there?

Ficwise, I'm currently enjoying the Age of Edward contest entries. I just started but they've been good so far, one even made me cry. The only downside is reading them on FFN. Is anyone thinking of making a compilation of them?

The writer actually writes about her own daughter's disease, living with a very sick child and puts a B/E fairytale romance around it.
This is not angsty in the relationship part, but dealing with the disease is hard and sad to read.
When you keep in mind that this is in fact a fairytale intertwined with a sad reality, it is worth a read.

As the pictures and videos come in from Leyte and other provinces badly hit, you wonder how they can recover from this catastrophe. The philippines is in an earthquake and typhoon belt so we have had a fair share of both. Bohol was badly hit by an earthquake just last month. Now, a super typhoon. Ficwise, I'm currently enjoying the Age of Edward contest entries. I just started but they've been good so far, one even made me cry. The only downside is reading them on FFN. Is anyone thinking of making a compilation of them?

I live in Houston! What part of are you going to be in? I can make all sorts of recommendations, but it's a big place and you may not want to drive all over the place. Are you bringing children or is it just adults? You should go to Galveston while you're here, Moody Gardens, the Strand. If you're near the inner city, you should go to the Museum of Natural Science, the Galleria for shopping, the musical Chicago is playing next week, Discovery Green, check on the dates of the Nutcracker Market (cuz if it's going on while you're here, it's a great shopping experience), the Theta Antiques show starts the 21st if you're still here then...I can come up with more, depending on what you're interested in. PM me!

I've done the NASA tour a couple of times. It's really interesting, but a little on the long side, but I probably only think that way because I've done it more than once.

Also in Galveston is a waterpark - Schlitterbahn - that you can go to even when the weather is cooler because they basically "tent" a portion of the park and heat it. I think I might like it even better in the cool weather than in the summer even though not all the slides are open. My favorite part is the lazy river.

Thank you for the recs! I'm here in SW Houston and the weather is great. I'm visiting my brother and (when he has visits) his 2-1/2 year old son. My brother is new to the area but has already taken him to the Children's Museum and the train museum in Galveston. I love your suggestions, so I'm going to investigate. Thanks again!
