Thank you for the recs! I'm here in SW Houston and the weather is great. I'm visiting my brother and (when he has visits) his 2-1/2 year old son. My brother is new to the area but has already taken him to the Children's Museum and the train museum in Galveston. I love your suggestions, so I'm going to investigate. Thanks again!

Booked, my positive thoughts are still going out to you and your country!

Thanks Astro for the compilations of the Age of Edward contests. These are great!

When your nephew is with you, you should definitely visit the zoo in Hermann Park and ride the train.  There's also a nice playground there that my kids loved when they were little.  You can feed the ducks at the reflecting pool.  Kids of ALL ages love the Museum of Natural Science and they have a hands on area in the basement.  The new dinosaur exhibit might be a bit long for the little ones, but if you go right, instead of left when you enter the exhibit, you get straight to the big dinosaur bones and re-enactments which will be more interesting for your little guy.

Have fun and if you run out of ideas or have any questions, you know how to reach me!

Out of all the recs, the only one I just couldn't stand was Enchanté by rpgirl27. I didn't like Edward's attitude toward women. Especially in the beginning.  I think the author was trying make his attitude better as the story progressed, but it didn't seem like it worked to me. I started it , but couldn't finish it. I posted it because everyone has a different opinion. Just because I didn't like it, doesn't mean that someone else won't.
The ones that I love are all of the Holocaust one shots, The Color of Love, I Remain, Yours, The Distance In Between, Parachute, The Smattering of Rouge, All Work and No Play, The Selkie Man, The Foreign Papers, Murder Under Trust, Something To Fight For, Four Days In July,  My Miracle, My Angel and Collide.

All of the recs that don't say complete, are not completed. Some of the recs are in progress. I can delete the ones that are not complete and not in progress  and only post stories that are.

Oh - don't do that! I really like your recs.

It's just that sometimes I miss a great fic because an author hasn't actually clicked the complete button. It's very rare for me to even consider reading a WIP! I just didn't want to miss any of your recs.

Yes!  Sometimes a story is really complete or complete enough to read, so we just like to know  when it is still showing as a WIP, if it is complete enough.  So if it is complete enough, please let us know.  And I love your recs.  I did not realize I remain yours was a vampfic.  I may need to read it now.  8)

I couldn't figure out how they got together.....

I'm reading a few WIPs but most aren't updating much if at all.  Darn it!    :D :D :D

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
So my experiment with Facebook has me scurrying back here.  I really think I will stick to lurking there - I've found some interesting stories over there.  But some of the um, administrators of the sites have gone from a reasonable amount of policing to being a little nasty about it.   :P :-X

You ladies are much nicer here....

Um, are Counselor's Bella's always um damaged?  This one in Me and Mom is strange. She doesn't behave like a normal person. And I'd say Renee is weird also but I think maybe this would be Renee without Phil :P

I'll give it a couple more chapters, but so far I've never finished one of Counselor's stories. *hides head* ;)

:D  :D :D  I think so, or at least Bella or Edward is damaged. All of her characters are usually flawed in some way, but Bella and Edward always work out in the end.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
I really love her historical ones, like My Wounded Soldier or Roar Like a Lion. There's something about the rhythm of the language in which she writes that really gets to me. But plot wise, it never feels like there is a guaranteed HEA, you just keep hoping until the end. I like that tension.

P.S. Thanks for posting the question, when I just looked up her profile, I saw she has a new story (maybe?) posting:

Look How You Turned Out

To me, her writing is a little stilted.  That's the only way I can explain.  But if you like historical romances, it makes sense you would like her.  Her writing reminds me of some of the classics in a way.  But they spoke very stiltedly in the 1800's, so the writing fit the times.

I guess I came to twilight having read stuff like Jennifer Crusie and Meg Cabot - I always loved funny romances.  So the writing style is different.   I will keep reading in the hopes Mom and Horny don't make a twerk sandwich out of poor Edward. ....

And how did this twerking thing start?  I always thought that term was related to meth use, now it's weird dancing? I'm getting old I guess....

Yeah, I thought meth addicts tweeked (tweaked?). The first time I heard of twerking was when everyone was making fun of that girl on the MTV awards earlier this year. (Maybe Miley Cyrus?)

P.S. Yes I am old. I still remember when video killed the radio star!

Tweeking/twerking - it all sounds the same to me!  :D :D :D :D

That's what I mean.  I heard the word and it sounded like the same term.  Maybe it's dancing like you are on meth LOL!!

This got me wondering too… according to Urban Dictionary

"twerking
the act of moving/ shaking ones ass/buns/bottom/buttocks/bum-bum in a circular, up-and-down, and side-to-side motion.

basically a slutty dance. derived from strip clubs.

when a girls' ass moves like a bowl of Jell-O
Man: She was twerking so hard on my dick last night! I thought it was gonna go numb!!

Girl: that girl is such a slut for twerking at the dance!"

"tweaking
Frantic and compuslive behaviour often associated with methamphetamine abuse (crank). People who regularly abuse crank may find themselves unable to stop a particular random activity like searching drawers, having sex, or putting things apart. This is called tweaking.
"Oh man last night was awesome, I was tweaking and f***ed my girlfriend for 6 hours straight…"

who knew???     :wtf:

That's the good thing of having another native language, I don't understand a lot references like that.

Tweaking/twerking? doesn't matter, just reading along here...  ^-^

But I liked Me and mom... it was not an easy read, counselor's style confuses me sometimes, her writing is not easy for me, I really have to concentrate and think along... so, I haven't read many of her stories...

To balance my reading, I read afterwards:

The Attraction Equation

^^^ this is what I should be reading. I have too much stuff going on in my life right now.  Having to concentrate on something isn't going over well.  So I usually find myself rereading something like Nolebucgrl's stuff.  Light and funny and I can put it down if i need to.

So I've fixed the Calibre problem.  And now I've given up on using Google Drive with Calibre.  But I will copy new stuff over to the Calibre drive until I figure something else out.  I just downloaded Copy - it gives me 15 GBs - so I will have to see how the sharing works.   ;D

Hmm. All my fanfic backs up to Drive. I usually don't have problems, just once in a while it won't show the file when I know it's there, but usually shutting down Drive on my PC and restarting it causes the file to finally show up.

What's a good alternative to Drive then? Right now I have regular books in Dropbox and fic in Drive. I have a program called Copy that I have tons of storage space on, but I don't like the way the books download to my tablet through it. I might retry it with calibre companion though. I dunno, Drive is working for me for now, so maybe I shouldn't fool with it, lol!

Am old too but haven't heard of tweaking used in that context. It's more of to "slightly revise" or modify something when i use it. "let's tweak that proposal to incorporate that scenario"...

As a parent, have definitely heard of twerking   :P my daughter mentioned it to me and i asked her to show me what it was. She refused to demonstrate and instead showed it to me on you tube. PHew, at least she had the sense not to copy it as she finds it disgusting. Watching the you tube clips of Miley doing it at the MTV awards, blecchhhh.
