Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Hiya hun!
I know you've started reading Windoward but I very recently finished reading The Breathing Series and I wouldn't recommend you rush it to the top of your TBR. The first book was really good. There's a lot of angst and it's very emotional (which we all know I FLOVE). It does deal with physical abuse and some of the scenes are hard to read but that's what made it so great (NOT the abuse, the writing lol). The second was ok and by the time I got to the third book I was struggling to finish it. I don't know what happened but it just wasn't believable anymore.

Any whoo just thought I'd give you my 2 cents worth  :D :D

Thank you for mentioning that!  I'll move it down on my list... I think I've read so many of those books where one of the characters has been through some sort of abuse and the other helps them heal and there are only so many ways you can tell that story.   I recently read Left Drowning and did really like that one, but it was only a single book and not a series.   I think sometimes authors have a good thing and then end up stretching it out too far.

I've only read the last one, but I really enjoyed it. I somehow always get bored during the run from James parts.
Thanks for the links!  I'll check those out.

Whoah I didn't know you could do that to the text!  Just think of the possibilities! LOL   So, I'm taking it you weren't crazy about Rock Chick?   I enjoyed the read, but I didn't think it was all that great...   I just don't think thats my genre.  Reminded me too much of Stephanie Plum (I only read one book).   I read that one years ago... are they similar or am I confused?   Oh and I did love Lee...   how could you NOT love Lee? ;-)

I know what you mean! This girl had soo many people fawning over her wanting to help but she doesn't want any of it. As for your comment about authors ruining a good thing, I started reading You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login thinking yippee yi yay a vamp series!! It's got a really high rating on GR but I seriously could not finish You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. She an Aussie author and I should probably be pimpin' her out but it starts as a Twilight rip off. True story: I created a new DNF shelf on GR especially for it!

Not sure how to tell you this but ages ago!  :D It is very bit as good as the first.

Also while I was getting the link for you I did the unthinkable...it is a well documented fact that I do not do O/Ss, willingly. Well, as I need a 'disco nap' from the RC book I'm reading (Lord, this story like the toffee from Enid Blyton's Far Away Tree, the more you read the longer it grows!)  I thought I'd read Kiya's O/S Phoenix. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login Loved it! Angsty but goodie....

Ooh I read that O/S a while back and I loved it! Twists your heart doesn't it??

I know I am crazy for reading WIP's but I am greedy and don't like to wait.  One of the WIP's I am reading and enjoying is Girls Gone South! by Kayleigh Cullen1918 You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login  As I am reading this fic I worry that it will get pulled before it completes, she is not on another site.  I now fear that for all the WIP's I am reading, it is driving me mad!
So I go check this out & see this writer has an amnesiac story.  I'm cautiously excited because although I love amnesiac stories, they are rarely written well.  Okay, so the usual SPaG  errors, then I see this:

"Since I didn't have a valid passport we were driving the two day journey to Beaufort, North Carolina"

From Portland Oregon.

So, last I checked?  You don't need a passport to fly within the US.  Sigh.  Yes, she is a UK writer.  But do you really need a passport to, say, fly between Manchester and London?  And maybe I'm being picky.  Also, Portland to NC? It would take me at minimum 3 days, but more likely 4 or 5.  3,000+ miles is a long drive.  Unless you are a Vampire. And don't have to sleep.

Okay, sorry for spewing.  Thanks for listening.  :-*

Another good one....Alice says "I have been waiting through the phone all day"

Now I know Alice is small, but how she fits through the phone, I'm not sure.  Sigh.  Her story is good - it is keeping me reading to see what happens next.  There is definitely a mystery involved. But the SPaG errors are all over.

Mostly though?  I love mysteries.  And I find few fanfic writers can do them well.   :(

Oh, and does anyone want a cat?  There's going to be a dead one here soon.   >:(  He won't let me type or touch the mouse without attacking my fingers.  Sigh.  Maybe time for a "time-out" in the bathroom.....

The time out? is for me....  :D :D :D :D :D :D

It may be time to read this.  I have liked/floved everything I've read by her.  But it's one of those I'm not sure I'm going to like based on the summary.  And I don't want to flounce it.  High expectations really kill a story.....

I really enjoyed this series - I found it a little slow to start with, but once I got into it, it was addictive.  :)

Huh??? Another in the Gravity series?  I was just on her page the other day and don't remember seeing that.  OK, I am off to see the Wizard (so to speak).  Ok, I just got up and am a little punchy, plus I am old, so...  Oh never mind, I am rambling now...   :ecomcity:

I don't know if anyone else follows the wonderful Carano, but I just got a notification that she has a new story!  I personally love all her stories and recommend them all.  She has such a diverse catalog that I haven't found one yet that I don't enjoy!   :bravo_2:

Speaking of unexpected stories, Laurell K. Hamilton surprised her blog readers with a new Anita Blake novella. She's offering it for free during the (US) government shutdown. For those who are interested:

I just saw something about Charlie Hunnam leaving fifty shades.  Now I said I was not going to see the movie when it came out, but let's just Charlie was changing my mind ;) ( if you know what I mean)  ;)

I've been reading that all over the net today. I actually heard rumors over a week ago that he was leaving, so I'm not really surprised to see it.

I don't think Charlie would have been bad in the role, even if he wasn't what I envisioned as Christian. Still, he caught a LOT of flack for this, I heard women were even showing up on set of Sons of Anarchy to complain. I guess it's true what they say, bitches be crazy!

I doubt it very seriously if him leaving the part is going to end up with Ian or Matt Bomer taking the part. More likely, they'll end up with someone who can't act now. Guys are going to be terrified to take this part after all this backlash.
