  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Hello Ladies! I'm back!  :)

Did anyone realize I was gone for some weeks?  :P

But after two weeks on the beach in Kos (beautiful Greek island) and one week with the kids at my mom's house, I'm finally able to come back here and read and chat and download and laugh... wooohooo!

It was high time because I started to become a scary scary individual - a singing mom!  :-\ You know, those seemingly always happy mothers who start singing matching kid songs for every occassion... very scary...

So... this thread was in the 70 pages when I left, now it is 130+ WOW, there is no way I can read that! So, are you able to update me on the most important topics? Please? :-*

WELCOME BACK!!! You have been gone so long! I'm on staycation, which translates as lots of reading, especially on this thread, so there's lots I can catch you up on...

I think everyone who read them likes Puddle Jumping by 107yearoldvirgin, The Boy At Table Seven by LyricalKris, The Practicum by TheFicChick, Dear Bella by Lellabeth, Comp Sem 101 by bornonhalloween, and FF95's Edward Cullen, Dick for Hire. If you have not yet read High Fidelity by IReen H, you should. Hopefully there will be a sequel.

There's been talk also about
Starrynytex's Boy in the Red Sweater
Whatever works by Soft Ragoo
planetblue's Deviant (and some on Barefoot in Texas)
Hoodfabulous' Breakaway Bella
purelyamuse's Never Said I Didn't
kharizzmatik's Hide and Seek
the Cullen Legacy by pattyrose
MaryElizabeth23's fic "Pickup Truck"

Rochelle Allison's light and fluffy fics (especially Brighter, Appease, Venture) were discovered by some.

Contest reading is bountiful, esp the Dirty Talkin' Edward contest and TLS Angst contest.

Last Tango in Forks was based loosely on the film Last Tango in Paris and its butter scene was memorable in a squicky way. Video clip was provided. (You probably don't want to see it).

Asking about the fic Dusty will bring out strong opinions (there is a futuretake coming up for FfLL).

I'm struggling through the Lolashoes trilogy, and Ella, when not answering Calibre questions, is struggling through EP.

We all agree Taylor Lautner would be a horrible Christian Grey. Ian creepy eyes is aka Ian Somerhalder. Regardless, we all still talk about FSoG/MotU (and it is apparently the most popular book requested at Guantanamo Bay).

Reading a meadow scene in twific nowadays makes many of us batty. Having copies with banners, if they're available, is better than not especially if The Pretty One is represented. Most of us have NO system in organizing our TBR. Lemons can actually get boring when reading not in WIP format.

A few of us deal with ADD in different ways, e.g. some of us clean and most of us don't. The Fold or scrunch question isn't about sh!tty sheets. Icy Pole will now always remind me of Vampward, but apparently they are popsicles in other countries. A milquetoast is a person who is timid or submissive. A surprising number of ladies are not interested in a n a l, which has been dubbed nal.

Ficfanfirl went to some great sounding concerts and shook hands with Gavin DeGraw. RDMickey went on a fantastic vacation posting fabulous pics, but no Rob P0rn for awhile and Demaris (who I'm just meeting) has returned from the French Pyrenees. Congratulations are in order for Loopy who has lots of news, including a bump and being a thread buster. Right now, though, she needs well wishes as she's in the hospital. (She also took Kellan away for a time, but has him safely in place again).

And PTS news...When posting pics, make sure you are not hot linking and that their width is no more than 450. Also, we're supposed to lock our links.

Basically instead of posting to a fic like this: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

You can post like this: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Replace everything before the number with You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

As some fics have been removed or moved and this just means that if you post a locked link it will take you to the post even if this happens.

Not much, huh?

Well done Lamelurker!  :bravo_2:

You should do a regular monthly catch-up post - I'm here every day and had forgotten most of that.

And welcome back Anchalee. I did notice you were MIA, but knowing you were Greeceing it up, I don't feel sorry for you!

The internet is a bad, bad place!  :D

Am I the only one who really finds ADF a difficult site to navigate? I really dislike being on there...Do I not get a profile page like I do on FFN? Where I can store all my Favourites?...And WTF is with the campfires?! Answers greatly appreciated.
I only go there to download stories I can't find elsewhere.  It is such a pain to use.  And I can't figure out the campfires either. All the nesting stuff just confuses me.   :P

Thanks Mate!

I have d/l'ed calibre and all of the extra bits, because I needed to remove the DRM from a book and convert it from mobi to epub - my other DRM remover hadn't been updated to handle the most recent Amazon upgrade - but that's as far as I've gotten.

I think I'm a little overwhelmed when it comes to dealing with thousands of fics!

Thanks for the instructions - I will certainly be playing in Calibre more now!  :-*

Where did you get the "extra bits" so we can remove the DRMs?  I need that.

Import the zipped file into calibre.  I mean, don't unzip first.  I made that mistake the first time.

Thanks for answering Ella -  :-* -  because my reply would have been "Ummm...that was, like, over a month ago! I can't even remember what I had for lunch and that was only 4 hours ago."

ETD: I just clicked bask on previous quotes and remembered that I learnt how to do it because of your wonderful instructions!

Ella has been very good at labelling her calibre posts, so if you search for "calibre" you might learn something new.

Just Wait is the one story that I can honestly say I wouldn't recommend to anyone...more so than The Perfect Wife, which I found disturbing, Just Wait was just depressing!
[/quote]

Sorry about that guys!! Just thought I'd get a quicker response, the reply at the other thread was the wrong story.

The story is quite depressing,I was looking for it for a friend-who wanted to read it but didn't want to buy the book so I told her that there was a fanfic of it. Only I couldn't remember the title

Thanks  :)

LINK Lolashoes - A Life Extraordinary
« Reply #2734 on: August 12, 2013, 08:09 AM »
Thanks for the encouraging words on the catch up post! I was worried it was too wordy or that I missed something important. Sometimes I have trouble determining what's important and what's not, and include too many insignificant details.

On another note I finished Lolashoes' You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login! I can't believe it! It was good, but sooo loooong (my copy was 1483 pages!) Lots and lots and lots of lemons, but underneath it all is actually a really good story that I think replaces Breaking Dawn in the best way I've ever read. A new canon for me. The second half of the book was much better than the first half and ended on a high note. I'm going to go ahead and read the third book now.

oh, and thanks to whomever rec'd the steamy little o/s You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login by Hoodfabulous (id: 9099390).

I was gone too but only for a few days.  My husband and I went on a road trip to Tennessee to pick up the newest member of our family.  Meet Masen!

He's a natural doberman (which means we won't be docking his tail nor cropping his ears-- unfortunately, while illegal to do so in most of Europe, most of the US still does).

He's cute! And I'm glad you're leaving him natural.

I'm not sure why US culture has a bad habit of clipping skin and flesh away. I had an exhaustive conversation with my brother about it just before his son was born. He was surprised to learn that it's not as common a practice outside the US. He just assumed it was what is done elsewhere as well. Fortunately, his baby mama is from the South America and decided she wanted to leave her son the way he was born.

I third that,  I avoid ADF like the plague, I am not that fond of Twilighted either come to that but its easier to navigate then the dreaded ADF.  Another site which I find horrible to find my way around is Tricky Raven (wolfpack fics) it drives me mad.  A very new site which I like is the lovely Maple Bookshelf You are not allowed to view links.
