Such a lovely picture!  ;)

Am currently enjoying a cup of coffee outside my cousin's house, reading the posts here and basking in the wonderful 15 degree weather. I wish i could bring home this weather.

Some eye openers during this trip:
1. Some white people are really white.   ^-^ It's fascinating to see so many skin colors! And listening to the various languages and accents.
2. Cleavage...man, i could turn gay looking at the bountiful mounds on constant display here. I have Boob envy! My A cups want to deflate even more seeing all C and Ds left and right. And man, at theme parks, they are out in all their glory. I can't help but stare!  :P
3. They wear really short shorts here, specially at theme parks. Again, logical since they want to stay cool. There i was in my full jeans attire. Think more than my birthday button and park employees greeting me happy bday at every turn, people are looking at me at my attire: that's one crazy asian wearing jeans.  ;D
My legs have scars from my allergies a few years ago so I don't wear shorts or skirts anymore. Still, am comfortable with being fully covered, the weather is so nice we didn't sweat at the parks.  :)
But hey, am not one of those stupid ones wearing party dresses and high heels while on tour or at the park  ;D :P
4. No matter how good looking a guy is, if he is hairy, i just cringe.  :-\  When i saw this cute guy in line in front of us, i was nudging my daughter to appreciate the view. But then he turned around and the curly hairs on his back were fighting to come out of his tank top...just ewww. Must hurt like a b*tch if he had that removed.
5. Bootylicious is indeed a term that can be used often here. Again, i could turn gay...i wanted to slap their asses just to see how bouncy and firm they are...just didn't want to get arrested and ask for bail money from you guys.  8) :D
6. Tattoos are fascinating. So many people have them here. Another thing my eyes can't seem to stop staring at.  ^-^

Can't believe 2 weeks have gone by and i only have 1 week left here. My hubs and I are dreading going back to reality  :-\
LOL! As long as the ones wearing short shorts are those that can wear them.  Some people really shouldn't wear the clothes they do.....

Glad you are enjoying your stay.   :-*

I just read my review of book 4 and I said that there was not near enough Patch in it.  LOL

Gabriels Inferno was the same way for me. It was nicely wrapped up in the first two books and I loved them but the third book was just blah.
The FF was really good! One of my favorites [emoji16] Did she add more to the published story to make it a trilogy? Or did it stay true to the FF?

definitely leave with 2. Second one is really good btw.

What about book 3 of the beauty from pain series?  I read the first two and loved them. Wondering if I should bother with 3 as I think 2 ended nicely.
I bought book 3 ages ago and I've still not read it, but I pushed it down my TBR as Mrs F said it was pretty much unnecessary drivel.
I'm with you hun, book 2 finished in a good place and I really don't wanna read book 3 any time soon if it's gonna ruin JH for me.  :P

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
So I got stuck on a Married in Vegas kick and am slogging through Hitched by Nollie Marie. It seems to be one of her first fanfics. Parts are good. But she does all the bad, annoying things - AN's in the middle of sentences, bad grammar and spelling, etc...

But what really makes me laugh is it is so obvious she has never been to NYC. And she doesn't understand being rich. Edward's family owns a pharmaceutical company. Yet he and Bella eat at Olive Garden and McDonald's. They use McDonald's drive thru all the time.  I've been to NYC and never have I seen a drive thru. And they drive everywhere. Who drives in NYC?  Oh, and my favorite! They went grocery shopping at Walmart. Because you can find Walmart in every big city  (not). Sigh.  Doesn't she watch any TV whatsoever?

Thanks for letting me get that out of my system.  :-*

There really aren't very many good and complete married in Vegas stories. :(

DLMG is so good so far! I'm at 65% but have to stop reading because of real life responsibilities. Boo. Hiss.
I finally finished DLMG today, it took me so long to finish as I didn't read anything for nearly 2 days as RL has been a bit hectic.  :(

Hun, gotta agree with you it was so good. Sarah hit it out of the park with this book, her writing is so lyrical no wonder why Smashwords has this under "Urban Poetry".
I seriously can't wait for her next book, she could write the phone book and she would make it seem like a piece of art.
I swear she gets better and better.  :)

I remember reading Hitched ages ago, it has a sequel that I've never got around to reading as like you said hun Hitched is just not good enough to care about what happens afterwards.  :P

I think A/N's is the most annoying thing in a fic, way worse than bad SPaG as you're reading and then all of a sudden there's a note in the middle of a sentence/paragraph saying something like: for picture of dress/tattoo etc is on my profile.  :pulling

It's really startling in some of the early works of better writers.  For instance, clpsuperstar did that kind of c.r.a.p. in Send Me an Angel, although she obviously knew better by the time she wrote Million Dollar Baby.  I read Million Dollar Baby and recently read Send Me an Angel.  I got to the first A/N stuck in the middle of paragraph wanted to slap her.  That is never cool!

I'll add that to my list of "if I ever become a competent writer that's a category I'll fill."  Honestly, there are several categories that, as old as the fandom is, I feel have not had good or even many fics about them.

And as far as A/N's go, unless there's some pressing question that everyone as asking about or an important point of clarification, I even known not to do that.

I can usually ignore a "pic on profile" AN in the middle of a sentence, it is annoying but not as bad as when they stick other random ANs there like "I just had to do it" in reference to using some twilightism or putting their own biographical notes in the middle, or defining terms but in some case doing it wrongly.  But it is fanfiction and it is free, and I have not written anything, so I shouldn't complain too too much, just a little.

You know, I might not mind an AN saying "see pic on profile"   But her AN's are longer than the paragraph would be without them. And about stupid things. An AN where she rants because babies come out all nice and clean on TV rather than covered in blood. Or one going on a long explanation of a charity where you can donate cars.  And this doesn't include the huge AN's at the beginning and end of each chapter.  And this was a popular fiction back in 2008 based on the number of reviews.

I think this is true. A lot of the early fics had AN's in the middle of a sentence explaining stuff. You don't see it as much anymore.

it surprises me how few completed Married in Vegas stories there are. It could be such a great category. And I've read a few that started well before being abandoned.

This seems obvious, but there's such a thing as negative to be mean as opposed to giving constructive cricism, thoug hI realize sometimes a writer's skill just doesn't cut it, no matter the plot.  I know there are several that I've read that I thought could do much better with what I feel are minor adjustments.  On the subject of writing public criticism, not too lnog ago, there was a whole dustup about people naming authors/fics publicly on Facebook that they didn't like.  I personally don't see that big a deal about it because the discussion was still civil.  Nevertheless, a shitstorm still occured. I suppose though that it was because the topic was initiated by a veteran author.

I missed a lot of the bruhaha over on FB and still got kicked out of one of the groups where it happened. I really think the one administrator that I avoid as much as possible over there has no sense of humor and is a bit of a control freak. So when the discussion got a little heated she freaked out.  Because I didn't see anything too nasty. It was actually a decent discussion on writing and fanfiction and whether it was okay to download stories.  There was one author who got a little heated but then she had a number of her stories plagiarized. And most of us agreed on the difference between nasty criticism and useful criticism.

But that might not be what you were talking about.  ;)

We've had a few here on PTS. They never last long. We change the subject too much. ;)

There have been several topics (or whatever you call Facebook posts in groups) about criticizing stories and pulling to publish or general fic gripes.  I know several people have left or were kicked out of groups because of it.  One of thoem I found woefully ironic because that was supposed to be a "no rules" group.  This will be a massively unpopular opnion, even here, but if the subject of discussion had been a less popular or new author/story, I'm sure people wouldn't have been so quick to be defensive.

That said, I do believe we're talking about different discussions, but the fact that someone can get butthurt that someone is downloading stories? I find that laughable at best and at least incredibly childish.  I do feel there are a few admins that are weak minded and that are far too easily influenced by some.

And I do realize that people have favorite authors/stories here, but the simple idea of having a flounced fic thread leads me to hope that people are a tad thicker skinned.

On the subject of an iPad, not quite a tablet person (phone or Kindle for me), but if I do get a tablet, an iPad is at the top of the list so I'll keep that stuff in mind.

So you know how I have my fanfic on my Google drive? And it's mostly epub? I do a search for whatever story I want to read next, click on the epub file & it tells me Google can't open that file. Would I like to open it with another program?  One of the choices is iBooks. I click on that and it downloads the story into iBooks.

Now, I will say this.  Be careful about reading any tablet at night. If you find you are having lots of crazy dreams when you don't normally, or if you feel like your brain is running all night, it could be the iPad. Kindle or other e-ink readers don't usually give off a lot of blue light but the tablets and computers do. I keep going back to my basic Kindle for reading before bed. I sleep better.

The Kindle fire, however, is just as bad as an iPad. :)

Here's something. As we know, Butterfly Betty is reposting her stuff.  She is/was decently popular, or so I thought, hence i tried reading her stories.  I say tried because my hang up with her writing is that whenever someone speaks, she uses a dialogue tag.  I can understand if there's more than 2 people, but reading her stories is incredibly fatiguing for me and I'm not sure I can do it.

On the subject of Kindle Fire/Ipad vs. Kindle, I would wager because you're dealing with LCD displays vs. e-ink on the kindle.  There's generally much less eye fatigue.  It's the same, IMO, if you read on your phone.
