I personally cringe at the fics where Edward calls Bella "Baby Girl" - it screams pedophile to me and sounds so unnatural and inappropriate. Not at all sweet or romantic.

I say "just" because HK is so near us, less than 2 hours flight from Manila I really crack up when i see some signs here. their translation to english or use of english words suck. whoever designed or approved this sign probably didn't know the other meanings of the word i just had to take a picture when i saw this at victoria's peak yesterday i had to switch hotels for my business days here. thankfully this one has wifi and lo and behold, as i was walking along austin road to get to the MTR, i saw a corrected version of the sign. they put a sticker on top of it
I've got a friend who calls her hubby "Daddy" all the time and it's well cringe-worthy as he just call her "Little Girl" all the time as well. I seriously don't mind these names if in the case of role play or in the heat of the moment but not all the time and it really cringes me out when Edward and Bella call each other things like this if it's not in a sexual way.
I couldn't care less what Bella and Edward call each other, but pedophile ? That's too strong a word to use, lightly.
I don't use it lightly, I have flounced a few because it was downright creepy. When it is more like he is talking to a child or worse yet his own child, it is a total yuck. It also sounds condescending, not endearing or affectionate. Some authors should just skip the pet names altogether and many overuse them, almost as filler.

RDMickey read them as WIPs and said she liked them. I started the first one, but it was slow moving. They met in college and just started dating when summer started. Fortunately, they were both from Forks and came home for the summer. Yeah, didn't get far. It may be a decent story, but I wanted something faster moving at the time.

I have also thought some of the pet names are a little creepy sounding. But what's funny is that it really depends on how it's written. I've seen some pet names that work with the personalities. But the same names used in a different story are just yuk.
I stand by my reading choices! I refuse to be embarrassed , though Jesus, I'm trying to forget I ever had a Rob 'obsession' now I'll just admit to him being kinda cute....But yes, I once drooled over Mr Fassy while sitting beside him so I think he got the point. I was minding my own business last night on here 'chatting' and I laughed about something and he asked what I was doing, I told him....and the origins of my being on this site. I can't be arsed to hide stuff about myself to someone who should be 'getting' to know me, what's the point, otherwise? Especially superficial stuff...
That fair enough, and not to be argumentative, (I did try to 'bit my tongue, previously) use the word 'creepy' but Pedophilia isn't a series of words strung together and to some its a very sensitive subject and not at all to be evoked lightly in a throw away remark. I think sometimes is is best to err on the side of caution when using certain words as you can never know when you're going to upset someone. Which is not what I'm trying to do with my post, btw. Is it drabble? I'm too scared to click on your links to find out.
As long as they are consenting adults? It doesn't bother me. It's only when one isn't consenting that it bothers me. But we all have our lines we won't cross. Summer Vacation and the sequel are both over 1 million words each. So, not drabble. Not at all. Do not click on that link. Don't! LOL! Yeah, I see you clicking on it now.

I can deal with baby girl, depending on how the story goes, how the character is. Derek calls Penelope Baby Girl all the time on Criminal Minds, and it's endearing, not creepy, but then, they aren't romantic, but best friends. I do NOT like fics where she calls him "daddy" though, or any book that uses that title.I was reading the blurb for a fic tonight, does anyone else want to pass right over the story when it states how the "Cullen's" have left? Why is that so hard, it's not a Cullen owning something, no apostrophe needed.
I think it may be a good WIP story. Read a chapter or two a week and read other stuff in between. I just can't figure out how it can be so long when there is no heavy angst to clean up. Maybe I'll try it and see. LOL! I can set a reminder to read the next chapter just like the emails from ffnet.
My husband always give me a hard time when he sees some of the signatures, so I have to watch whose entry it is on if I have to pause in my reading, or make sure I switch windows - I always leave a news tab open for that reason.

It has my majorest pet peeve from alt-New Moon or non-canon fics. I hate stories that have Esme and Carlisle calling Bella "my daughter" or "my baby", or Rose and Emmett calling her "my sister". Come on, Rose treated Bella like crap until the got pregnant, and Esme and Carlisle didn't think of her as a daughter, not at the point in the second book where they all LEFT her. So why do so many fic writers insist on throwing that in there? They all loved her so much that they left her behind and never, not ONCE thought to check up on her?Bah it pisses me off just thinking about it.
