If you like a historical setting, you'll probably like it.  I enjoyed it.  There's a certain unexpected circumstance that upsets some people, but it didn't particularly get my dander up.

Thank God the site is up! Having withdrawal symptoms since April 1! I tried to access yesterday using our hotel lobby PC but couldn't even open a page. thought it was being blocked in Japan  ??? Good thing i had wifi at the airport this morming and quite a number of twitter messages popped up clueing me in i was not alone in my misery in not accessing PTS. Again, hallelujah the site is up !!!

Thank you Mr. admin!!
 :You_Rock_Emoticon:

 :djparty:  :singing  :djparty:

I have 20 pages to catch up to! Will do it tom.

BTW, i accidentally deleted my note in ipad containing my updated TBR list, links to rec'd WIPs and the heights and countries of the gals who replied before  :-\ I may be OCD but i have no patience to go back to the several posts to rebuild my list. Oh well, c'est la vie!

I finished Midnight Caller during my trip. Is it up to 314 chapters only? Felt the ending was rushed...though it was HEA, it could stand to have a few more chapters so we find out what happens to Bella and Alice's pet.

Talk to you soon!!  :-*

Yay we're back! Stupid asshole attackers!

Look folks, I'm looking for some help. Have an of you ever heard of dabwaha? It's a book contest, where you vote round after round, til one book wins favorite book of the year. This year an m/m romance has made it all the way to the finals! An m/m book has never won before, and it would be totally awesome if this finally happened. So I'm trolling for votes. If you're interested in helping, hit the link and vote for Stars & Stripes by Abigail Roux. And if you ever DO want to stick your toe into m/m, this is the perfect series, it's one of my favorite series ever. I would never ask you to vote for something I didn't love.

Hi Ladies! Glad to be back!  :-*

I used the time to read fanfic  :D

I finished rereading Red Sun (Aro/Bella) and Crimson Starlight (Caius/Bella) by wonderwoundedhearers, both very good non canon vamp stories.

But after that I had to stop reading vamp, so I read

Across the Ocean Blue
Author: Wooleywews PM
Bella has isolated herself after several disastrous experiences. Edward has retreated from life because of personal tragedy. Can one perceptive canine, concerned family and friends, and fate bring them together?

Now the thread is back I can whine about the crappy fics I've read lately. The downside to reading fic in a bad mood: you have 0 leeway for mistakes and just flounce all over the place :D

This story was about Bella as a stroke victim, something I thought looked interesting.. except it was never really developed, the relationship between B/E wasn't explained and there wasn't really a conclusion.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Again, started promising and then got ridiculous very quickly.. B/E get married out of nowhere and his whole family just accepts it, the whole story seems to be on a superficial level without ever getting into actual meaning. It also has possibly the most abrupt ending of any fic ever.

I wanted to kneecap Bella for pretty much every chapter of this - she's constantly whiny and seems to have the backbone of a jellyfish. The author doesn't know her arse from her elbow when it comes to SPaG and uses colloquial English for a story set in Forks.

Now obviously, as this is an Edward's Eternal fic it's decent, but I just didn't like the story line all that much. I don't particularly like that instant type of love, and kissing a guy once and him proclaiming to love you forever? Bit full on! I'd be running a mile in the opposite direction.

Uh.. yeah. Don't read any of these, basically. :D

I am reading The Give Away Girl by MrsSpaceCowboy

Honor student Bella Swan has mastered the arts...of manipulating her divorced parents, rolling the perfect joint, and faking an orgasm. Who wouldn't want to keep a girl like her? An unconventional coming of age tale for Gen Xer Bella. Rated M.
Follow/FavoriteRated: Fiction M - English - Romance/Angst - Bella & Edward - Chapters: 32 - Words: 244,025 - Reviews: 2,048 - Favs: 1,654 - Follows: 1,641 - Updated: 12-13-12 - Published: 07-22-11 - Status: Complete - id: 7206314

Although it is H/S and there is plenty of under age sex and drug use it is actually pretty good.  It is a lot longer than I expected though, I am only about halfway through and feel like I have  been reading it forever (since pts crashed anyway!)
It is really well written and I haven't noticed many SpaG errors.  I don't know how it will end but, it is worth a read.

I've been struggling with one too. Someone posted Saving Bella by Mynxi over in the 152 thread, so I started it. It's Bella/Jasper, New Moon au, with a really damaged Bella. Now I love me a damaged heroine, but this Bella is really pushing my limits. I just don't get someone who's entire self worth could get SO ruined over a freaking guy, to the point that she wants to die. There's sadness and depression, and then there's this Bella.

But I'm slogging through it, I don't know why, glutton for punishment.

Eh I've made it 500 pages in, only around 100 left, I'll stick it out to the end, lol. It had enough going to keep me interested, even I did want to smack the taste out of her mouth more than once for her overly melodramatic attitude.

I hate it when I read a fic I can't flounce even though I should.
It's like I have a little voice telling me to read just one more chapter as it can't possibly get any worse - invariably it does!

When you think about it, Stephenie Meyers really set Bella up for breaking completely in the books.
That poor girl had no experiences whatsoever in her old school because in that huge highschools shy, silent students with good grades are not remarkable. Then she moves in the middle of the schoolyear to a town where everybody knows each other since birth. Groups are built since forever and she is too shy to really try to find her way in. People are interested in her because she is new, but before she can make anything more than aquaintances, Edward, that "perfect looking god" kind of falls for her and romances her. She is more than flattered, nobody ever gave her that much attention before! But for being in a relationship with him, he has to keep her isolated, so nobody else gets close enough to uncover his and his families secret. So she can do nothing else than to cling to him and his family, especially since her own family life doesn't really deserve to be called that. Nobody's fault, she and her dad just don't know each other at all and he has no idea how to act around a teenage daughter he has rarely seen the past years. And this relationship gets a severe blow when she runs to Phoenix because of James.

So we have a shy, nice, very inexperienced teenage girl with no real contact outside of that vampy family. All of them are physically far better than her, which damages her selfimage even more, because she has no contact to real people (between Twilight and New Moon were summer holidays, no school means no other teenagers, only vamps for Bella).

And then it comes, the famous woods scene. Edward really did a number on her there. Why he didn't realize how much he broke her is beyond me. She already thought she is nothing compared to him and the family, breaking up that way was a very low blow. AND because he isolated her before, she has nor friends to talk to, she doesn't dare to get professional help (my boyfriend broke up with me because his brother wanted to eat me? yeah, right, where's the paddded room?). Her dad has no idea what to do and leaves her alone. She is completely isolated.

You may see that I'm not much of a fan of New Moon  ^-^ And I think Bella had every right a teenage girl has to crash completely.

However, stories where she is unable to move on for years don't make sense for me either... I think somewhere along the way she would have grown up and been able to move on. Edward was lucky it were only six months of separation...

Oh my, I'm rambling...  ^-^ ^-^ ^-^

I totally agree! I got why she broke so badly in New Moon, and I actually seek out books where Jasper,Jake,Peter, whoever help bring her back to life.

But the way this one is, it just goes on and on and on. She doesn't speak, doesn't eat, barely sleeps, she cuts herself. Once Jasper finds out and tries to help, and then Rose and Emmet come back, and she takes like one step forward, three steps back. Rages, screaming, yelling, sneaking into the bathroom and cutting herself in a house full of vampires. It just seems WAY over the top.

Plus, this is one of those authors that over does the southern in Jasper's speech. All the "g"s are dropped from the end of words, I think she even used "cited" for excited, and similar stuff. "Git" instead of get, and on and on.
