Please educate me! What exactly are corn dogs?

I had always imagined them to be like what we call "Dagwood Dogs" or "Pluto Pups" but we can only get these at "The Show", which is what I imagine a state fair to be like.

I don't know anyone that could eat 2 Dagwood Dogs so I'm thinking I am completely wrong, or our dogs are just really big.

Actually, I don't know anyone who would really want to eat 2 Dagwood Dogs - once you get past the deliciously greasy crispy batter and the tomato sauce, you don't want to think about the mystery meat hot dog sausage inside!
That looks positively obscene!!   :57: I don't hink I could ever eat one of those in public without blushing to death!! :D :D :D
I just couldn't resist those corn dogs yesterday. I had stopped in a Sonic for some sweet tea when the told me it was 2 for 1 corndog day and the had just pulled them out of the fryer. I'm still ashamed of myself for that!  :( ;)

Mistake I found in a fic this morning was  "We were all heading to different collages in the fall." I pictured yearbook inside covers.  :D :D

Todays worst SpaG:

"I love you two!"  :D

What did you find today? 8)

Haha, that's a classic. One that has been driving me nuts in the past couple of fics I've read is the apparent belief that then and than are the same word or can be used interchangeably. Not the case sunshines, back to year 2 with you to learn the rules of basic English grammar; Than is used in comparative statements and then is used as a time marker or to denote a sequence of events.

But here is my gem for the day:

"She was in complete oar of him."  :D :D :D

We need to keep a running list of these, we could publish a book.

Twilighted did audiobook-type podcasts of fics for awhile. I don't why they stopped; I think they were understaffed. I wish someone would start that up again. It was really enjoyable. Of course, I'm really into audiobooks, so maybe it's just me.

I know this may seem like a lot of work, and many people don't like hearing their own voice recorded, but anyway. I'm a nanny for a couple of kids and they like listening to audio-books before bed or in the car, instead of buying them I'd just record myself reading the books and then they'd put them on their iPods or CDs. They preferred my voice to someone they didn't know as well. Don't think it would work so well for fanfic, even if you did and exchange with someone else. I'd feel so weird reading smut for someone else to listen to!  :D

There's an app for that (no big surprise!). I can't remember the name, but I think you just pick a file on the device and it reads it to you.

Is it able to read to you in all the different character/ celebrity voices like the GPS can? Can you imagine Yoda or Darth Vader reading Twific to you!?  :D :D :D

There used to be podcasts on apple (theres a podcast app) but I think they were removed by Apple.

I think my three-hole punch needs to be exorcised. {And cue dirty jokes.)

We're allowed to read at work 'cause all we do is talk on the phone. We're not allowed to have e-readers or cell phones, though, 'cause then the stupid people would forget to talk on the phone. ("I'm surrounded by idiots.") [Also...Mufasa!] So I've been trying to print out the fics you guys recommended and put them in binders, so I could read them at work, but my three-hole punch hates me.  :pulling

I'm gonna go cry now. Or find a stapler. Whichever I manage to do first.

Be nice to the environment.  Print on both sides of the paper.  And remember, there's always those big binder clips to keep your pages together.

Maybe we can write a letter to EL James (SnowQueenetc) and see if she wants to add our pet peeves to her new book on writing tips!

Binder clips! Why didn't I think of that? Thank you x 100000000!

Newbie question: What does "SpaG" mean? I get the gist of it, but what does the acronym stand for?

SPelling and Grammar

Edit: I've been corrected by Illabeth - It's spelling, punctuation and grammar.  Thanks Illabeth!

SPelling and Grammar

Oh, I see. My brain was being mean and thinking along the lines of "Stupid {and} Pathetic Author Goofs."  What is wrong with me today?

Well, the acronym could work for that, too.  I don't know that anyone here would disagree with it.  We wouldn't want the authors who join us here to think we're talking about them, though.  Cuz, we're not.  Pinky swear!

Well, that is what they are. SPaG is Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar and many of the mistakes that these authors make should only be made by children who are in Primary School and still learning the basics of language. Thereby that does indeed make them just as you said; "Stupid {and} Pathetic Author Goofs." I like it.

Thank you. I don't think you guys should circulate that, though. Just in case an "innocent" writer wandered over here and got all offended. ;)

No, no - you saw the pinky swear, right?  Sometimes, when you've got the story flowing out of your fingertips, you can't slow down for little details like spelling, punctuation and grammar.  That's why you have someone else read it and make polite suggestions for revisions before you send it out into the world.  And you're welcome.

I have to agree with this.  I am much more forgiving when the story is not beta'd.  Somehow when a writer is thanking her beta for doing such a good job catching mistakes and there are stupid mistakes right and left? Yeah, making fun is allowed.  But it's best to do it here and not as a review. LOL!  :D :D :D

This is how I ended up reading fanfic.  I found the Twilighted Podcasts on I-Tunes back in 2008. This led me to Twilighted fanfic and then to Ff.net.
