Sometimes it's BRATT - for Toast and Tea. I can't stomach herbal teas, but I drink heaps of green and jasmine tea, as well as ginger. When I get my winter cold and cough, I live on ginger, boiling water and honey. I was growing my own ginger but with the rain and humidity of the last week, it has rotted!

Best cure for an upset tummy - pour boiling water into a mug and stir in a spoonful of vegemite, and also dry toast with vegemite.
I would die if I ever got sick and didn't have my vegemite!

The BRAT diet is the best. Whenever I am sick I go straight on it. Sometimes if I'm really nauseous I'll also have some almost flat lemonade but I don't like fizzy drinks and lemonade is always so sweet. Apple juice too, is good for an upset stomach. As for ginger, never in a billion years! I hate fresh ginger with a passion (it is 3rdth on my list of most hated foods, after Chocolate, Celery & just a smidge before fresh coriander) and I can't stomach it at all, I don't know if this stems from my formative years when I suffered for excruciatingly bad motion sickness so I was always given ginger pills before we went on a long drive.

I'm with you on the Vegemite front though. It's the only thing I can have on my toast if I'm sick and I do love it as a hot liquid too! But sometimes I prefer Bovril in my hot water, more of a beef tea than a yeast extract tea! Vegemite (or Dick Smiths OzEmite, which is what I use because it's Gluten Free) is simply the best thing for sliced bread, so much better than any of that other stuff.

As much as I hate the evil WIPs I have been sucked into a couple lately. I think I'm losing my self restraint, I guess because of my fic funk and the fires I've become more spontaneous, trying anything to lift myself out of my non-fic reading state. It's worked too! When we were at home today I actually managed to sit down and read more than a few chapters of the same (WIP  :banghead:) without giving it the flick!

My husband has insisted on introducing nutella to each of our children, despite my protests.  (I would have raised them on regular peanut butter, but he likes to be the good cop.)  IMHO, vegemite does not look like nutella.  Vegemite looks like sludge.  You Aussies have to teach your children from birth to like it, otherwise they wouldn't touch it!  But Astro, I admire your gastronomic fortitude.  I have to stop thinking about it.  It's upsetting my gastro-intestinal system.  I loved everything else about Austrialia, though.  And this is true despite the fact that we stayed in a hotel in the red-light district of Sydney!

Ahhh - King's Cross! Where the streets flow with vomit, urine, drug dealers and prostitutes.

How very brave of you!

I say that as a Queenslander who only knows the historical image of King's Cross. Some of the local Sydney girls might have a different impression.  ;)

Go back to your ginger tea, but I totally agree with you on the look of vegemite, but we'll have to agree to disagree on the taste. Next time you come to Aust, I'll make you and Booked a good vegemite sandwich and you'll be converted - that really is the dark side!

We don't train our children to like it, they just know what's good for them. When I was at Summer Camp in the USA I took lots of Vegemite over there and all the kids in my cabin loved it, and lots of the others did too. Their favourite way to eat it was by dipping Goldfish crackers into it! They also went mental for Aussie Skittles, due to the Green Apple and Blackcurrent flavours instead of Lime (YUCK!) and grape.

I do agree though, it does not look like Nutella at all and it does look a bit like sludge, but yummy sludge. I mean Nutella is gross and looks like poo, and Vegemite is yum and looks like sludge. Although it possibly looks like sludge because that is what it is made from, the sludge left over in the bottom of the vats after they're done making beer....

:iagree: I also love Promite - I have avocado and promite on toast all through avo season! And I go through rare periods where I eat promite more than vegemite. Clix crackers with promite - yum!

I might have that for dinner tonight!

Can't agree on the ginger and coriander thing though - I just about live on ginger, garlic, chili, coriander and lime. Last night, I finely diced it all, mixed it into chopped avocado and tomato and had it over cooked chicken breast. Then, I had the leftovers in a wrap with lettuce for lunch. It was kind of like an Asian/Mexican salsa.

Celery is evil - unless it has peanut paste spread all over it, but even then it's barely bearable.

Now, peanut paste spread on a granny smith...

Are the fires under control yet? All we see on our news is flood, flood, flood. Was relieved to here that you had no property or stock loss.

With the fires and now floods, we'll be facing a feed shortage!

If you paint a dab of vegemite on a cold-sore as soon as you feel that first itch, the cold-sore will be gone by the next morning!

First the BRAT diet and now this...Gosh - I could be a doctor...if I didn't have to deal with snot and blood and vomit and pus and sick people!

Instead, I'll just read fics about sexy Doctorward and re-watch the prostate scene from Cosmopolis

Rec Nobody's Little Girl by HelloElla

Yay! One more WIP down. Nobody's Little Girl by HelloElla has been marked complete!

I really liked this fic. One of the few hurt/comfort fics where none of the characters drove me to destruction. Bella/Kid starts out Homeless and after a rather, shall I say unlucky, encounter with Edward he takes her in and the story unfolds. It's well written and the plot is solid, it isn't dragged out unnecessarily like some other fics of this genre and while Bella is pretty reliant on Edward she isn't a simpering mess. There are elements of romance but it's certainly not a romantic fic, however the relationship between Edward and Bella is really nice and so well written you don't miss it.

A billionaire couple searches for their long lost daughter. A lonely, troubled young man finds and gives refuge to a homeless girl with no name. Paths are crossed and hearts are given, but you can't keep what was never yours.

I'd need to read it again, sometimes I get lost in between all the updates, but there was nothing that red flagged it to me.

I think I read one where Bella interviewed a married Rob & Kristen, but really, I can only take them as side characters like in Screamers.  Otherwise, it is just weird.   :P

I can't read real person fic, at all. I love the B/E characters, not necessarily Rob/Kristen.

I think I'm in a fic funk  :( Since I read that biker book I'm having a hard time finding a fic that just sucks me in like that one did. I got over halfway through one that was pretty decent, different plot and then the author killed it when Bella was in love about 3 days after meeting Jasper....and he wasn't a lovable character at that point. After that it just kinda sucked so I flounced.

Now I'm reading another biker book (with a Twi spin on it) that I seriously could not put down last night. I'm going to have to comb through my library after I finish this to find a vampfic

Astro~I'm with Ella, your emoticons are hysterical. That one you put where the smiley died and the ghost did a peach out? Loved it.

Hope all of you ladies are feeling better! We had 67 degrees today and are looking at 23 tomorrow morning, so short sleeves to winter coats in about 24 hours. We will all be sick  >:(

I know!!! I realize this now  :(

I couldn't read a real book for years, just couldn't get into it at all after I read Twilight and then found fic. But now that I can import and switch some characters around? It's nearly impossible to stop once I come across an interesting book. And the last two I've read have been excellent imo.

Or nutella, its a treat. Not an everyday part of the meal.

I hate Nutella... I think I'm the only person on the planet who does. That shit tastes gross. I don't like hazelnuts.

My fave chocolate is mint... gah, after eight mint sticks are the lays chips of the chocolate world, betcha can't eat just one!

My ultimate store is Sugar Mountain... all kinds of goodies that will have you hopped up on sugar for weeks  :D

Hazelnut is the butter of chocolate world.

Also don't like mint chocolate. The mint flavor is too strong, cancels out the chocolate.
