Hi Everybody
« on: May 18, 2012, 06:27 AM »
Well, I've just relised that I've been a member of this forum for about a month now, and I haven't even bothered to introduce myself.  I know, I know how rude of me?

Well, better late than never!

Hi, I'm DarkGuyver and I'm an alcoholic.... HAHAHA just kidding.  I thought I would add a little humour to my introduction.

DarkGuyver, as some of you will probably relise from my screen name, I am a fan of the Guyver anime/manga francise.

I found this forum, while searching for more Tess Gerritsen (yes, I watch Rizzoli & Isles) eBooks for my Sony PRS-350 eReader, which I got a couple of months ago.  But found a surprisingly large amount of books for my eReader, which I am honestly thankfull for.

Besides reading, I like watchin action, sci-fi, thriller movies and TV shows.  I'm a martial artist, I'm a 3rd degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, and I currently study Lin Kuei martial arts (a Chinese martial art, which is the ancester of Japanese Ninjitsu).  I'm a videogamer, I'm a fan of Street Fighter, Bayonetta, God Of War, Soul Calibur, House Of The Dead, and the Need For Speed games (in particular the Underground series, and Most Wanted).

I'm very knowledgable about computers so if you have any questions about computers or computer related problems post a topic and I will see what I can do for ya.  I'm also a technology nut, so any related technology discuss are game.

I hope to meet some new friends here and share some of my collection of eBooks which may be of interest to others.

Actually there were more than that rejected.  The books of the bible didn't become canon until very late.  Until then the bible consisted of whatever books they wanted to put in it.  The last fight was over Revelations because of it's Gnostic nature.  And until then the books could be edited as needed.

That is part of the problem.  Someone could write  notes on the copied scroll which itself might not be accurate depending on what it was copied from.  Say they sent the scrolls to England from Switzerland because a group of monks  wanted to copy a book and Rome directed Switzerland to send their copy so they could copy it.  They might assume the notes should be included and would simply do so.  Example is the King James, it actually came from a very insignificant Monastery who would not have received the best copies on loan to James.

And now I'm boring everyone.... so You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

That is really interesting, I know for a fact that the Bible was a collection of book, which was approved by the Catholic Church before it was first published.  But I never knew that the Books contained in The Apocrypha/The Deuterocanonical Books were actually thrown out completely by the Catholic Church.

There were a LOT of books that the Church decided were not canon.  Some of them older than the books included.  There was a book a while ago called the Lost Books of the Bible that contained them for general reading.  I don't remember the author.  Also take a look at the books that are considered Gnostic.  These are the same age as the books in the bible but were not included by the Church.  Only Revelations made it in out of all of them.

You might look at what the Eastern Church based on James, the Brother of Jesus, included in their writings.  They are not based on Paul [who btw never met Jesus].  His only claim to fame in that regard is he is from Herod's family.

You want to search German Critical Method to start.  One of the writers you might find interesting is  Robert H. Eisenman.  Demonoid had at one time a very very nice collection of works in this area.

There is a reason I call the Catholic Church the original Borg.

No not boring at all.

about what philo is saying, the result is that although we could think that the texts identified as from one person was written or said by this person they are not, the "editing" were cuts and additions made by different people in different ages, following the set of mind/ideas of that time... so most of the bible are a mosaic.

Don't misinterpret me, I'm not talking about faith or dogma (neither is Philo). You can believe everything (including modifications) were inspired by the holy spirit. I'm just talking about the process that led to the bible as we know....  :)

Yeah, I did some research about that after I watch the Da Vinci Code as I wanted to known if what was mentioned in the movie was actually based on any factual accounts.  I always did suspect that the Bible as we know it to day was actually a collection of books edited and approved off by a committee within the Catholic Church.

I think I might have a copy of that book, I download a bunch of books regarding the Bible after I watch and read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  As I want to get a better understanding about the sub-biblical context mentioned from time to time within the story.

That is hitting the nail right on the head, which I couldn't agree with you more on the subject.
