I just noticed I have Angelfall on my iPad. So it's good?

I thought it was really good, I think I 5 starred it. It's very light on the romance though. More actiony and plotty, less first love angsty.

How long is the series? I read the first 2 books, I think, and then didn't bother with the rest once they came out. The first was OK the second so, so....maybe I read the third? Hmmm? Read them as books too so God knows where they are now....

There are 4.5 books, 4 books and a series of short stories that falls as 3.5 in the series.  I am currently on 3.5.  I kept reading through 3 to find out what was going on, I didn't really like book 1, but was really curious to find out exactly what was going on in this world, and you don't really get all of the answers until the end of 3.  We are currently visiting family, so my reading time isn't what it normally is, but we have a 14 hour flight back next week, so I should be able to finish the series and will let you know how it is all together.

For supernatural YA, have you read Angelfall by Susan Ee? I really enjoyed this one, it was different from all the other YA PNR I'd been reading. My daughter really likes the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. Oh and Maggie Stiefvater has a couple of really good series, particularly Shiver and the faerie series are the two I've read.

I will have to check those out once we get back to stable internet access/computer time.

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
I started on the Wings series by Aprilynne Pike.  It was pretty good.  I got the second book but got sucked into fan fiction before I could read it.  I thought Fallen was okay. I read it when it first came out.  Didn't feel the need to get the second.

Still waiting for one to suck me in as much as Twilight did.

Though I loved the Meg Cabot ghost whisperer books. - The Mediator books - there are 6 of them.  I liked her Lightning girl series as well. Both have strong female characters and sweet but not woosie heroes.

Those are the only series I really rec of her teen ones.  I didn't really like the model one.  I do like her adult series also.  I really like the Boy Meets Girl series.  It is all emails, texts, notes, journal entries, etc.  You don't actually have any conversations.

I also liked the Wake series by Lisa McMann.  It was a little different.  Not sure if it was a real HEA.  You might like that one Demaris.  Not too long.  Three books.  Kind of angsty

I haven't really read anything lately though....

I've heard good things about the Stage Diver series.  Are they standalones?

No, but there's enough info in each book about the previous characters that you could read them out of order and not really miss anything. I really enjoyed the second, Play.

I just read a topic on another forum that was intriguing, so I thought I would share it here. It's interesting because I find the same characters in original fiction, as well.

This is from a post by cheshiresorrows on ADifferentForest

Which Bella do you prefer to read or write about?

Some common tropes of general female characters that I've at least read to portray Bella:
  • Highly persuasive regardless of the actual content of their conversations, she manages to convince everyone else that her way is the best way.
  • Friend to all living things she loves everyone and forgives them all for their imperfections, plus she is willing to save, protect or risk all for the sake of someone she has met just seconds ago.
  • Master in disguise either brave and cheerful (despite her past), usually a variation of Friend to all living things
  • Incorruptible unaware of the possibility of temptation her love interest poses (innocent, insecure Bella).
  • "Feminist"/Strong occasionally a complete asshole, especially when she's supposed to be all of the above. Nobody will call her out on her abrasive, casually abusive behavior. Other characters usually bend to her will. A variation on Highly persuasive
  • Being super awesome is a curse for those Vampire!Bella fans who like a variation of Master in disguise

The same can be said for Edward/other male characters. There's the typical manwhore and the heroine who is usually a naive virgin, but she has so many charms~ that our manwhore has seen the light and now wants to spend the rest of his life by her side. Then we have the alpha male that's very dominating and thinks the world revolves around him, he can be found in AH and Vamp stories. Sometimes we get socially awkward Edward, and a Bella to bring him out of his shell, or the broken male protagonist that uses past suffering for the way he acts towards others, either by abusing substances or women because he thinks the worlds out to get him.

Anyway, do you have a favorite that you like to read? I find it hard to relate to some of the meeker Bella's that I've read, and ended up flouncing because it's hard for me to think that some of the situations that pan out in fanfiction would actually happen in real life; so I'm more inclined to read a Strong/Feminist Bella

Speaking of which, I just read A War of Cynics by Greeen Goldfish (it's in the index!), which I found mentioned in the same topic. I'd never read it before, and LOVED IT! I really enjoyed reading such a strong Bella character, even though there was a ton of jumping to conclusions on her part. She had totally valid concerns, and the drama in the story wasn't there to evoke a response from the readers over the typical reactions to jealousy. There was an incident that totally mirrored canon Twilight but it was handled beautifully. I'm off to read the sequel, Courting Achilles!

I read Irreconcilable Differences after seeing it on some list, not realizing it was incomplete and was inconsolable when I got to the last chapter. I was SO UPSET. It seriously has the best Asshole Edward ever.

You would think... but I was reading it as a WIP and got bored even before I got to the point of where she stopped.  I didn't get what all the problems were about. It seemed like excessive angst for no real reason.  And maybe she explained it after I gave up....

Does anyone know if  Skygods (Hydraulic, #2)  is written from new material or did she ( Gondolier) split Hydraulic level 5 into two parts?

I took a peek at these books and it's nothing like the fic that I remember. [spoiler]Isn't the fic about a young E and older B....C dies.....

This is one that I've not started as I've been waiting for it to complete...but it can't be as bad as some of the Twifics I've read lately; Loopy. Yeah, I've still not forgiven you  :D :D

BTW I've discovered another positive about PA apart from his..... Big Bed. He makes a great nurse, been a bit poorly and right now I'm wrapped up on the sofa being looked after. Downside? X Factor is apparently great pick-me up TV according to Mr Nurse, I'm peeping out it from behind my hands, cringing and hoping I'll not be sick again for a very long time.... :D People really like Cheryl Cole! What The F**k?!

HL5 was about childhood sweethearts, Edward is a successful author trying to reconcile with Bella after he went nuts. I read it back when it was first put out and again when it finally completed. Its really good but very emotionally exhausting and heavy on the angst.

I liked it enough but didn't like the way she portrayed Edward. Without giving away too much of the plot, he had medical issues that were exaggerated to the max in the worst possible symptoms with what he had. It was like reading the textbook stereotypes for his diagnosis.

Demaris the reviews for Skygods make me think she split HL5 into two parts, with Skygods being the part where we learn WHY Edward went batshit crazy.

But I'm trying to figure what the published version of HL5 is like because the beginning of the fanfic was boring as hell.

So I'll go with its probably old material with new stuff thrown in

Based on this review You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

jfc I guess she split the entire thing into a trilogy. Nooo thank you.
