Please be aware that we have long since finished this.  We NO LONGER ALLOW SHARING OF EBOOKS on this site.  Please do not post a book, it will be removed.  Please do not post a link.  It will be removed.

Dear members

We are in progress of migrating have migrated the site to a new name and defining defined new guidelines. One of the most important is to discontinue hosting ebooks on our website so that we are DMCA compliant.

Over next few days STP's team of Moderators will be deleting all posts from all the Boards containing books and book requests.   These have been deleted.

Please do not make any further book uploads on the site.

Thank you for your understanding.

Note: We will review the new rules when the site is fully migrated, so if you have any suggestions please let us know by contacting one of our Mods.

so will the site after still be the same after the new rules and such? will we all still be able to share or is that over and done with forever? i just joined and was having so much fun on here, finding new books to which i would have never read unless it was for this site. so for that i thank all of you and hope this isn't the end.

Wow, when I saw this, my stomach literally dropped.

I have to say, I knew this was coming sooner or later, and wondered in the beginning how this whole site was still legal.  Maybe it wasn't.  Whatever it was, a whole lot more people were reading because of it.

I should know.  I read 4-10 books a week, depending on how busy I am.  Since my family and I are no where close to rich, I can't read that much by buying everything.  As a teen, I also can't just go out and get a job to pay for everything.  So I relied on this site.

Then again, I can understand why this has been done.  This is how authors make their money.  If I realied on my books selling, I'd be wary of sites like this as well.  And this isn't the only site recently affected.  Some of the other sites I used to use - 4shared, Scribd - are on their way to closing, or at least changing.

I can't really say I'll still be here from now on, since yes, I was here for the books.  To the person who will now rant at me for being greedy and selfish, fine.  But please do not pull the whole "holier-than-thou" attitude.  How many books have you downloaded?  Were you here only for the discussions?  I really won't have much use here anyway, since I can't exactly read all of the books mentioned.

Yes, I wish you guys the best of luck, but for me, this is goodbye.<3

Some of it will be the same, just not the sharing - downloading - books for free part.

Regardless of how substantial or insubstantial the profit loss to the author might be, can anyone here with all honesty say that it would not irk them to know that they spent upwards to a year of their life WORKING on something that hundreds of people felt they should be entitled to for free, because.. Hey! After all, at least ONE person paid for it. Give me break!

You sir or ma'am are a hypocrite. You ask me if it would not irk me if someone felt entitled to my work (since one individual paid for it) and yet you are doing precisely that! Why would you download my work freely when you clearly stated that you would not accept it if the roles were reversed? You would feel irked if I took your work for free and yet you have no problem taking my work for free all the while admitting it's wrong.
The greatest joy for an author is knowing people enjoy reading their work. I can honestly tell you Wenchie that if the roles were reversed and I was an author, I would give my book for free because not everyone is familiar with every author. I would feel so much better if you read my book, liked it and then went out to purchase a copy rather than you going to the store and purchasing my book without knowing anything about my writing style and then end up not liking the book and feeling you got ripped off.

( Yes I downloaded books too)  But to be really fair on the authors, they write these books to ake a living and we take that living away

Cavey dear, you are one of those "hundreds of people" taking someone's work for nothing, taking their livings away.
When you have PAID for EACH and EVERY book that you've downloaded previously for free THEN you can talk to the rest of us about FAIR, but I'm afraid that until then your points are invalid.
If the library had one copy of a book (paid for once) and a 100 individuals checked it out over the course of the next year, it's not considered piracy, it's legal. But at the same time if one person uploaded one book here and a hunderd people downloaded it, it's piracy. Why is that? Is it because goverment has complete control over one and not the other?

Some of you say the authors are getting cheated out their profits, but the same can be said about us readers. I mean how many of you have you gone to the book store or online and purchased a book/ebook for $10+ by just looking at the title, cover and reading the summmary at the back and when you got home and skimmed a few chapters, felt you got cheated out of your money?

Okay I won't pull out the holier-than-thou attitude and say I didn't download any books because I did. I stumbled onto this site by accident couple weeks with no idea that this was a ebook hosting site. While I originally came back for the books, I will now stay for the discussions.

It had to happen at some time. With the recent court cases for music sharing "piracy" and the huge fines given out to private individuals ($22,000 per song in one case i read ) you cant expect volunteer moderators to risk that lawsuit.

We should be thankful to them for their continued efforts and the past achievements in allowing us to share for so long.

I will miss my daily browsing.. but will still come for the discussions. please add me to the new site when you are up and running.

Best Wishes to all
gailmaree xx

As I said,  I did download some books,  So how does me saying that I understand why the site is being changed and the option to share books had been taken away from us make my points invalid?  And please do not call me dear, as you do not know me and have not the right to utter that endearance.... :040:
I am not a complete idiot, some parts are missing    :)

I am amazed that people really don;t think it is wrong to get someones work for nothing,  ( Yes I downloaded books too)

That right there is what I was getting at. You don't like that some of us don't feel the same way. You think it's wrong to get someone's work for nothing and yet you've done it repeatedly. I'm just trying to understand your point of view. Is this what you'd rather we say, "Yes, book sharing is WRONG and although we have done it repeatedly, we plead guilty?"

And do you mean endearment? If so, then I didn't "utter" it in terms of endearment seeing as how I do not know you. =_=" I uttered it with a hint of sarcasm.

We have a thread specifically designed for user's input on eBook sharing...

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Kindly continue your debate there as this thread is just a notice thread, not a place for arguments or debates about the immorality or justification of eBook sharing

Thank you

While this makes me sad, really, I saw it coming. I think we all did. I'm grateful to those who have shared in the past so I could expand my library.
I've not been on this site too long but I've not really contributed to any discussion or review threads yet. I look forward to these changes as an opportunity to become a part of the community.

Thank you for all those who shared, the mods and the admin. It was a good run.

There goes my life. It really sucks to be me. Oh well, I did enjoy my time here and the books I got to read. Thanks to everyone who was more than willing to share their ebooks and passion for reading. Good luck STP. :(

Hi! I'm a new member and I'd like to say that I completly understand the motives for the discontinuation of eBooks hosting. I just like to sugest that you don't simply erase the posts and boards. Just block the links, if possible, so we don't lose the sugestions and contacts we've made. Thanks! :-*

Bummer
I won't pretend I don't understand it.
I'm old enough that I once had a Napster account. I understand.
When I get ticketed for speeding I understand that too.
I still speed and I still think getting speeding tickets is a bummer.

It was a great run while it lasts, definitely an end of era but all good things must comes to end. We should be thankful that it last so long instead of getting mad or what not for something that is out of the mods and adms control.

No doubt it sucks but ladies and gentlemen did you really think STP could continue on the same track without getting busted? Can you blame the mods and admis for stopping ebooks sharing? I like you ppl enough but none of you guys are worth going to A) jail or B) paying millions of dollars in fines. I think that was the mods and adms are thinking. So before you start complaining or what not think about that for a while.

At least STP will continue just in a different format and that is definitely a comfort. I personally just want to thanks to all the mods, adms, members and authors for making the STP experience awesome and look forward to what next for STP. Take care ya.

Very Sad to here this news!

But I can not say I am surprised.
This is one of many sites that I am on that are hitting the dust.

Thank you to the administrators/Mods who built and kept this site going. I've recently joined but have had a blast since becoming a member. My ebooks collection has grown and so has my author knowledge.

So Thank you! :-*

There are several forums that still allow ebook sharing (i.e. dpgroup, viprasys, etc.) However, they will probably have to stop or close down due to US law. If they are based in another country, that's a different situation.
