I haven't read either of her stories but have been saving them and printing them to read when they were closer to done.   Which is probably now.

Just a general question for you all when your using Fanfiction downloader how many chapters does a story have to have before you start saving it (WIP's) Just looking for a good number to start at obviously I don't want to start saving at the first few chapters right? Thanks in advance for your answers

I don't save until it's completed...I won't read WIPs anymore so there's no point for me to save-as-posted; I won't read it anyways if it's never completed.


Ellachanted~Same here on authors not listing their fics as complete! Sometimes I'll go through my favs list on ffn and check any that haven't been updated in a while but are quite far along. I've found a few completed fics that way, though they weren't marked as such :/

I have a question for ya'll:

What about a fic will make you flounce? Not necessarily the storyline but more grammatical/spelling pet peeves? I'm just curious

Mine are continued use of "smelt" and "shutters" for smelled and shudder, respectively.

Also....if there are too many short sentences (I think someone on here mentioned it). It seems you just can't get a flow going with those and I always quit reading.

And, if there is an obscene amount of exclamation points used. I know it sounds picky on my end but I just can't handle it. People do not speak or think with that amount of continued excitement lol. I started a fic the other day and I swear, in the short paragraph, just about every sentence ended with an exclamation point.

And if Edward starts calling Bella "love" (or similar endearment) waaay too early in the story. I mean, come on. Guys don't call you 'love' on your second date or run-in.

Me too me too me too.. I flounce A LOT of fics. I save a lot in case someone wants them but I'll probably never read them! I can overlook minor grammatical/spelling errors. I can't handle the characters screamed this or screamed that etc. (You know screaming their whole way through the fic.). I flounce most beating stories, (I shudder when Charlie rapes Bella) I started reading a fic one time and it started out as Bella coming home from school then Charlie beating her until she passed out when she woke up the next morning her pants were around her ankles the author (no kidding) had Bella say "oh well looks like he raped me again" Bella thought as she pulled up her pants. That is sick, twisted, wrong. not even factual. I was being livid. lol. Or I hate reading fics where her confidence is directly tied to her vagina if she's a slut she has confidence, she's beautiful, she's all that, if she's a virgin she blushes, she falls, she has low self esteem (if any) Good lord it's 2012 most girls (mine included) One is 20 one is 18 (still virgins) have a vast knowledge of the sexual act, it's something written about, talked about, shown on TV etc. So lack of know how in that department to me makes no sense and drives me crazy. Ohh I could go on about my pet peeves but I'll stop lol I'm too old to get to riled up.

I'm with you on the rape scene....Charlie raping Bella? No, just no. And for an author to write in reactions such as those? Can't stomach it. I can deal with abuse (I actually sometimes like to read about a victim bella) but every fic I've read that has Charlie as the abuser just hasn't worked for me....and it's usually the way it's written. It's just not realistic and seems the author is just shooting for shock value.

Another type of fic that I've never read, nor will ever is slash. I'm sure there are some fantastic stories out there in this genre but they are not for me. I want E with B and no one else.

Yep, Always E/B for me too! I just can't imagine taking such a beautiful love story and trying to create that with anyone else. I cringe at Emmett Bella pairings in my mind they are so much like siblings it's just gross. Can't stand Bella Jasper pairings, it's like she's cheating with her best friends man no way no how. I can't do it. Gotta have canon pairings. I'm so set in my ways it's ridiculous lol

Well, if Edward is British, he might call her love early but it wouldn't mean anything.   But no, that doesn't normally make me flounce. 

Boredom does - though I may go back and try again.  Bella getting attacked without any real reason or rescue, especially when it doesn't really fit the story - kind of goes with the PWP, I really have to be in the mood for it.  Text speak - totally drives me crazy.  Unless they are actually texting each other.  Cheating with others tends to bother me.  Though cheating on others - well Bella and Edward are meant to be together LOL!

Really bad spelling and grammar - only if the story is also bad.  Stories that don't flow or are too explanatory will also make me flounce.  And things that are not consistent - i.e. Reneesme was attacked with a knife that cut her, but 2 chapters before she was hunting bear with Jacob.  And the author argues with me when I point it out.

Is this a sufficient list? 

British Edwards are fine (and hot lol) and the 'love' reference is expected. I meant more along the lines of E and B have an antagonistic relationship in the first couple of chapters but then, without any lead, he's calling her 'love'. It's bizarre and doesn't fit lol.


I tried a Jasper/Bella fic...didn't work for me. I just couldn't reconcile it in my head and make it work.

Yeah, Charlie raping Bella is definitely an out.  Charlie abusing Bella is pushing it for me normally, though I started one where Edward rescues her & then Charlie dies in an accident.  Though I can always deal with past abuse, just not always current stuff.  Okay, well, maybe - since one of my favs is "Hit By Destiny"

But Slash with Edward? Yeah, not going to read.  Well, probably never any slash.  Not really my thing. But gay secondary characters - especially Jake - I love.

Gay Jake is a fav of mine! And I read a gay James once, that was great lol.

I can only deal with the physical abuse if it's glossed over. I can't read super graphic descriptions (nor do I want to), they seem too theatrical IMO. I like more of the reaction of Edward to finding out something is wrong (and of course saving her).

Elirose: ITA on the unrealistic progression in some fics. And the inconsistency that Ellachanted mentioned is a big one.

Mr. Horrible has a gay James. It's a great story.  Yeah, glossing over is much better than descriptive writing in this case. And I know what you mean by "written by a 12 year old"  I get so excited by the summary, but the juvenile writing kills it.

I forgot about gay james in mr. horrible. The one I was remembering was in 'I Love College" by clpsuperstar...I think lol
