that's how I started out. Until my Kindle died. I got a new one, but I had to start all over with the sorting. Also, if you have too many books/stories on it, it crashes.

And then I started using Calibre to remove the DRM off my Kindle books.  I didn't like that I paid money for books that they controlled. But it wasn't until RDMickey got me started, that I used it for fanfiction.
i remember, I think we might have all started on the same weekend, but it's clear you use yours a help of a lot more comprehensively that I do..I'm going to play around with it a bit and see if I can make it work for me, I really like it I think it's a great piece of software.  I just keep stuff on my iPad (I use Kindle for iPad) until I've read it, then I send it up to iCloud and remove it from my device..

Christ!  :D :D

Off Topic ( see Astro, I'm not always a.n.a.l  :D) I've just downloaded on my iPad The Velveteen Rabbit! "Why?" You might think "you don't have small children" but it was the very first book I can remember being read to me; I had no idea you could get it electronically (0.99p!) and my original is well...held together by a pray in an attic somewhere, I think...Read the part where Skin Horse tells the Rabbit about what it take to become 'real' and cried :57: You never know I might get stuck with overseeing a small rug rat at Christmas  :D

This reminds me of reading The Giving Tree to a cousin and crying while she sat alarmed by my reaction and then asked her Mum not to let me babysit anymore. Too many feelings! I can't remember if I've read/been read the story you mentioned.. now I feel I've missed out on a milestone.

My tactic for the next person who ruins the ending of a fic for me:

Go to amazon and download it, it's cheap cheap cheap!Less than a dollar. It's such a sweet tale and a classic and this addition has other tales included...

Okay, so Calibre with fanfiction.  First you have to add the FFdownloader.  Also I like Count Pages.

I added the following columns by right clicking at the top of the columns in Calibre:
Type of Edward
Type of Bella
Book Type
# of Chapters
Pages (use Count pages plugin for this)
Words
TBR List
Read
Reading
Favorite
Genre
Type
Status
Characters
Story ID
Relationships - this one didn't work for some reason so you can leave this off
Last Update - this also did not work properly
Summary

I then assigned a value to most of them in FF downloader under configure plugin - except Edward/Bella/Pages/TBR/Read/Reading/Favorite - you have to do those yourself

I'm attaching screen shots because I can't figure out how to embed them LOL!

You have to do this all before you download into Calibre  - though you can redownload then merge the stories under Edit Metadata - I did a find duplicates, merge and delete.

Holy :poo:! Ella this is....I'm lost for words. Yeah, I'm so going to copy all of your hard work!  :D :D But were you saying earlier that this new system will only work with new additions so anything already in the library you would have to sort into the new columns manually?

Urgh. I can't really help you with that then. I'm the opposite of you. I love Firefox and Chrome. Can't stand IE, drives me absolutely bonkers, I avoid it like the plague and as a result know nothing about how to fix it. So anyway, despite this being the blind leading the blind; do you use a download manager plugin?

The plus signs showing up indicates an issue with the  URL data path encoding, at least I'm pretty sure it does, IE often has a problem with converting +s to spaces and the other way around in urls and this is coming through when you DL (because the file name is connected to the URL link on the server). Although after all that I have no idea how you could go about fixing this problem, that will require more investigation. Maybe learn how to love Firefox?

I had no idea what you were talking about here ( ;)) but I downloaded an upgrade to IE and that seems to have fixed the + sign issue.

So  :-* Thank you!

Hmmm - I wonder if I should report off topic conversations such as this to the administrator - you know how much I hate going off topic.
;)
Thanks for this - I am trying to download classic children's books to my school ipad and this one is perfect!

I did however have a techtard bi-polar time getting it:
 :) A book to download!
:-\ Amazon uk won't allow me to download - something to do with you POMs holding a grudge about our convict heritage and us still being better at cricket, no doubt.
 :) Found it at Amazon.com
:-\ There is only a kindle version
:) It's only 99c US - and the Aussie $ is strong at the moment
:) Downloaded, removed DRM and put onto ipad!  :)

Well, I only added the summary & characters really. I was trying to fill in the other info myself. It was taking forever.

But now I'm coming across duplicate stories with more/less words but same number of pages. If they aren't drabble? I'm not sure what to do  :-\

Yes, this is what s*cks and what took me forever yesterday.  I ended up highlighting all the ones with missing info, wentto ffdownloader & selected "Get URL from selected stories", copied to clipboard, opened "Get stories from URL", and all the stries on the clipboard showed up. Then I redownloaded them.  Now I'm merging the ones that I already filled in with the new ones &deleting the duplicates on the ones I haven't done....yeah :banghead: .......Sigh....... ;)

I have discovered via my trashy gossip websites that Rob is in London for Christmas.. as am I. I need a plan to woo him, obviously. Do you think telling him I'm obsessed with fanfic about a saga he hates and then blurting out something about licking armpits will do it?

More on-topic: I just started re-reading Love In My Box, the collab between cosmo and marvar. (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login) I forgot how much I love this story, plus this Edward is just too cute.

The six hours it took to re-download it all?  Yeah, no work for me in that.  Just a tied up computer.

The going through and deleting duplicates? That will take a while.  And merging the ones with both epub and mobi (I have a nook and a kindle) - yeah, that will be a bit of a pain.  But then, it is bowl season (college football) so, I guess it's something to do while I watch bowl games ;)

For the PDF's? yeah, all manual.  I haven't brought those in yet, other than the ones I imported to convert to epub.  And until I read them? I have no idea how to fill out the columns.  So they are mostly empty.

I have Songbird on my reading list, maybe I should move it up.  MIFFY - I started reading this but got a little bored and switched to something.  It just wasn't grabbing me.  Maybe it was the Bella.  I mostly don't analyze these things because sometimes I'm just not in the mood for anything I'm trying.  And supposedly others loved it.  *shakes head*

So between WIP updates, I'm now reading a REAL book.... it's a murder mystery by an author I've never read, but seen around.  It was a Friday freebie - Plum Island by Nelson DeMille.  So far so good. ;)

I just want it to end!  :pulling. The word "complete" has never been as desperately awaited. There is no way I could do what you do and read this story as a WIP; I tired, got to chapter 19, which is where the story was at that point, and almost lost my mind when there was no more..Dusty was what taught me the no WIPs rule.....

Yeah I have a fair amount of both PDF and an web downloads..I don't have the merge issue because I only use Kindle software on my iPad. OK I was waiting for your reply regarding PDFs before I start re-loading so thanks for that, I'll just assume that Calibre will just ignore them...we'll see.

How far down the list is Songbird? It's not brilliant so don't kill yourself to read it but if you wanted something pleasant to distract you from Calibre then, sure.

Her Waterfalls is on my home screen on my nook.  Which doesn't necessarily mean I'll read it soon, only that it sounded good at the time.  :D :D :D

I am so bad.  Somedays nothing sounds good....Others I'm reading everything I can get my hands on.  But then I've been reading about Bella and Edward only for pretty much 2 years now.  I discovered fanfic when rinabina - who I follow on twitter got me started with The Plan.  So maybe Plum Island is good.... or maybe not *reads the latest update of Me and Mr Cullen*  ;D
