i started reading Dusty earlier and am on chapter 16.  Ugh!  It's such a slow burn.  If I skip like, 12 chapters, will i miss any substance?  Bella's 15 now and while I like angst I need more than a promise of what will happen once she's 18.  Any hope?
I was going to read it, but after all the comments I'm reading, it will be put on the back burner.  I can handle angst, but it is not my normal choice.  I'm more into humor.  So angst without an HEA, yeah, not really my cup of tea. Or coffee....depending on the time of day  :D ;D

Lots of little things happen that help role the story along and we learn things about the characters. I wouldn't skip anything

I'm not a Bella/Jasper fan. I have a hard time reading non canon couples, it's the southern drawl that I feel a lot of authors get wrong and it bugs me  :-\ I'm all about Edward and Bella.

Off topic, I just finished Reflected in You and I'm totes cranky that I need to wait until May/13 for the next book  >:(

Yeah I'm all about E/B also.  I have a hard time reading about them with anyone else.  The rest of the characters can mix it up, bit Edward and Bella belong together.

I just know there are those out there that read other pairings.  :P

I also hate when you are reading a book that doesn't stand alone and you have to wait for the next installment.  I was so glad that even though I bought Twilight when it first came out, I didn't actually read it until right before Breaking Dawn came out.  I think I had to wait a week after finishing Eclipse.   ;D

I was late to the party, too.  All the books were already out and the first movies were out and on DVD.  I watched the first movie before I even started the books and sometimes I'm surprised I still decided to try the books after seeing the first movie.  I think it was because I was asking my daughter questions about the movie and she told me that I would understand more about what was going on if I read the books since the target audience would be fans of the books.  So off I went to figure what had my daughter so enthralled.  About that time she "outgrew" the whole thing and I was caught in its web!

Hey there pretty ladies..(that's meant to be a said in southern accent a la Jasper)  I'm back, having survived the monster that is Dusty. I hadn't read it since it was on chapter 19 ( 6 months ago) so I went back and started it again at the beginning. All I can say is, thank god I've start my Christmas holiday...it took me 24 solid hours, and I read really fast, to make my way through it and that was because I had to step away from my iPad on numerous occasion and take a chill pill. While catching up on the thread I noticed a few questions about the story and HEAs etc so I have posted the review I wrote on Goodread below which I stuck under spoilers because it is monster long! But I wanted to say on here, as you ladies will understand me being fellow Twific addicts  in some form or another, that with Dusty it's not about HEA or Non HEA, that isn't why you should or shouldn't read it. Personally I think you should read it because Dusty epitomises all that is great about this crazy Twific genre and why we spend so much time here, Dusty is the very best of what Twifics is about. I will say, that it is scary, there will be times when you will want to FLOUNCE *shouty capitals*  and, as I said in my review, hit someone, really, really hard, but keep at it, no one will appreciate this fic as much as you ladies, the fact that we meet here so regularly tells me that. You will be doing yourself a great disservice if you don't. In 10 years time, when The Twilight Saga has gone the way of the Dodo and someone says "Oh! Do you remember/read Twifics?" Did you ever read Dusty will be the follow-up question. We've all read a lot of Twishite, but Dusty? Whether you love it or hate it, it is a story you will never forget, it won't blend, you will never confuse it with some other fic. Quite frankly I don't know how I'm going to move on from it, what to read next that will compare; how to go back to dark haired, pixie, slightly psychotic Alice, after falling, head over heels in Twific girl-crush, with blond, tomboy, skater-girl Alice. In fact, I think, the only person who YellowBella didn't physically alter is Edward (apart from his eye colour) Jesus! Even Jacob Black got a make-over! Which brings me to my next point, YellowBella's writing. It is superb. I have no idea who these two women are in RL but they put Meyers (and a whole world of "successful" published authors) to shame with their writing, it clenches you in a fist and holds on vice-like until they are through with you, there is no spoon feeding, no bowing to mass preconceptions, no swaying from where they want the story to go; they stay true to their vision (however long it takes :D).  I loved it! Every heart-wrenching, ugly crying, laugh snort moment of it. Oh! As for the ending? It is whatever you want it to be, I think I read some one earlier saying the ending is "hope"; yeah, it is hope, and as such? It is perfect :-*

I read it again. It's not your average Twific, that's for sure. If you only read it for the writing it's worth it. So beautiful. It's bumped a lot of my fics down the list. Dusty is in my top 5 . As soon as Dusty completed I hit flagfic to make sure I don't lose this gem.

Does it count as reading a 'real book' if I imported one and changed all the characters to Bella/Jasper, Peter, Charlotte and a bit of Edward and Emmett? Because I did that....again. :o  And it was a really good story.

That's the second time I've done that in just a few days. The only thing that kinda sorta stinks is the lemons are WAY toned down, obviously. But man, this second one (not sure if I can say the name since it's been published?) was incredible and is actually being made into a film.

And a lot of authors DO screw up Jasper's accent....some will take the 'g' off of every single word he speaks/thinks and that drives me INSANE. Take it off, 'darlin', cool. Off of all words, like somethin' everythin' walkin' etc makes me want to  :33: when it goes on for 300+ pages.

I have a question, and this will sound rihtarded (The Hangover, anyone?) but,is the epicness and angst of Dusty anything like what it was in Wide Awake? I've not read Dusty yet, obv but I just get the feeling that they are on the same lines of each other but I'm probably way off with that.

The same thing for me. It took me a day (minus the sleeping) to read the first one after that I went online and read that they more books and went Yeah!!! and went back the next day and bought the other 3 books which by now are pretty read and re-read and re-read and well you get the picture  ^-^

Both of these fics set the bar. Really. They are both angsty to beat all but are so different. I guess I compare the writing. I found Dusty to be poetic and the endgame was different. Wide Awake wasn't my fave. EP still owns my ass and always will but Dusty *sighs*

I actually kept the names. Gideon Cross is so effing yummy I can't wait for the next book. I was also disappointed to read that the Crossfire books are the new Fifty  >:( uh, just no. These books are far superior and a way better read. At least Tarasueme published/publishing her series. So much better and a way better storyline and growth of characters.

Which books were Gideon Cross in? I have seen that name a few times but can't remember now.

I came into the books after they were all written....Thank God. I read all in four days and would have probably died had I found them earlier and then had to wait to read the next one. I could barely wait long enough to get to Target to get them when I finished lol.

I loved your review hun.  :-*
I've been putting of reading Dusty as I didn't think I could cope with the story as so many people were saying it's heavy in angst, but I think I might start it over Christmas as it'll properly match my mood of working from Christmas Eve to Friday  :(

Gideon Cross is the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day. There are two books Bared to You and Reflected in You. So good. If you change up the names and put Edward and Bella, GAH! I should have done that.
