Thread #5 - We are crazy talkers here! Join in the fun!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I think I have discovered my new favorite author and her name is planetblue You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login I've already read Deviant by her and I just finished Barefoot in Texas (both stories are on her profile). The first one is a lot of fluff and a tiny bit of angst, the second is the opposite. She is an extremelly talented writer, her stories are well written and I really like the plots she develops. She completelly switshes genres and POVs from story to story, really refreshing. Her newest fic is called Badlands, it is a WIP, and it seems pretty heavy so far, I'm not gonna lie... Best thing about her? She updates regularly!  ;)

I assume most of you know her/have heard of her. Had she written anything before Barefoot?

My only concern with Barefoot in Texas is the ending.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I still rec this fic, I enjoyed it so much and I read it all in one sitting.  :-*

Still in a twific slump. Read Iteration, it was entertaining but just an ok read for me. * And, oMG, for the life of me i couldn't remember what it was about as i was typing this. Had to read the summary to recall  :o Man, am old!*

Finished reading Lexxie Couper's Lead Me On, the 5th book in her Heart Of Fame series. Loved it. The series for me was a solid 4.5 stars.

Which leads me to this off topic question: do you know of a good site where i can download free up-to-date piano sheet music? The sites i see just give either really old songs, only 1 page or only the right hand notes. I can't read chords, only actual music notes. Tried searching 4shared but now you have to pay  :( I can play Payphone and Titanium but as you can tell, they were soooo last year's songs. ;D Need to brush up on my repertoire so i can impress by daughter's friends on just how cool a mom i am  :D :D I drew the line at learning ylvis' What does the fox say.... But can sing along with it with the girls in the car  :D :D

eeee I just reread Deviant today actually and was wondering about her too! I flounced on Deviant twice before I finally made it past the first chapter and was hooked. Badlands looks promising, but I'll be waiting till it's nice and complete to fully appreciate it.

Have any of you met someone, or know someone named Edward. I can't tell you how many times I've rolled my eyes when I'm reading something and the name Edward is referred to as old and outdated...Really?! Growing up I've met a handful of Edwards, it's really not that uncommon is it? I can't remember if it was written in Twilight or not but it just seems a little silly and I'm not kidding when I've probably read the name thing at least 10 times.

If you can't recall the plot, I don't think it is because of your age, probably it wasn't as interesting...

My brother plays the piano and he usually uses simple google search to find sheet music. There are also a few torrents if I'm not mistaken. But his best source is probably youtube. People always upload videos with the music attached. The songs are not always that good and might need slight alterations though. Another great idea is to search your local library. We have one here with a great music section. Hope this helped ;) (If you want I can always ask my brother when I see him for more info.)

Yeah, guess iteration didn't have an impact on me for me not to remember so soon after reading it  :(

Sadly, we don't have libraries here except those in schools, you have to be a student to go...
I do those google searches but always come up with those i mentioned, incomplete or chords which i can't read. (Did i mention i'm not much of a ouido player? So i literally have to read the music notes to play, i guess you all know am not that good LOL)  i tried downloading those instructionals in you tube...never saw one with the music sheet attached. Will look again. would really appreciate if your brother could give some leads on which one he uses  :) ooh, will try looking for those torrents, never thought of that. Thanks!

Welcome Leola and CJ51

Happy birthday Oilie

I drifted back into ff this past week. One I almost read as a wip, but I had too many of those. Then once it was complete it kinda got buried in all the other ones. Although there was Spag, I really enjoyed this one. I didn't think I would, but I was sooooo wrong !

It was Our Yellow House by CaraNo.

Must admit I wondered if the comments about it sounding old fashioned were a US thing because in the UK Ed, Eddie and Edward are fairly common place. Eddie Izzard  and Ed Byrne both standup comedians, Eddie the eagle,  Edward and John (Jedward) but then again there are famous actors Eddie Furlong, Edward Norton, Edward Burns, Eddie Murphy Eddie Redmayn, Eddie Cahill etc etc so it never struck me as being  particularly out of fashion. Now, if she'd called him Percival or Tarquin I'd have agreed with her...but it would have been a whole different saga if she had :D

Happy Belated birthday to Oilie.

Bump it up! Manchu is to die for. Must admit, I tried to read the first chapter three times and flounced, not sure why, I just didn't think I was going to enjoy it, but then Rob Attack had a public vote and it won first place so I went back and tried again and I loved it.

I did the same thing. Few months back everyone was touting this book as an awesome read and I tried 5 times and still could not get into it.  I guess the sixth time maybe  the charm.
I'll also check out Booked's rec. she's always right on the money.  Thanks

Yep, it was something about the Coyote Ugly thing of Bella being up on the bar pouring drinks that turned me off and I'd tried it  three times, but then I grit my teeth and got beyond the first chapter it was great, I actually got very wrapped up with it after that :)

In the small town of Madisonville, LA, Bella Swan has spent her entire life seeing things before they happen. Until Him. How do you stay out of someone's life when it keeps flashing before your eyes on a daily basis? AH,BxE, slightly supernatural.

Thanks for the rec sybilh! I liked Blind Spot by Fictionfreak and its slow build. Nice supernatural mystery. I don't understand why it was pulled by FFN or how it violated their TOS. Ridiculous. Glad she posted it on TWCS.

In case you are wondering, it is the same author who wrote Edward Cullen, Dick for Hire (which I thought was a better fic than this one). I found the following note from the author:

10/3/2013: Fanfiction.net pulled Blind Spot down for violation of their TOS. Since the rest of my stories are in violation as well, I've taken them down from there, myself. They'll stay here at TWCS until I decide it's time for them to go. The FF blog is still HERE: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I also rec planetblue's writing. Her entry to the Dirty Talking Edward contest, Channel Five, was hot! Unlike most, I think I liked Barefoot in Texas more than Deviant even though Deviant was a good fic. I think she matured a little as a writer with Barefoot so I'm glad she's started on a new one--thanks for the heads up on Badlands. Planetblue is definitely a writer to watch!

I can't get passed that image they have floating around with Edward with a mustache.  It makes me giggle.     So, did it win first place for fic of all time?  or a certain category?

It won best completed fic in 2013 in the poll last month and it won best fic earlier in the year in a second poll.
