Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Good morning! Wanna see how Mornings are in my house?

I know what to you mean, but I only have one (until March) and my husband is usually leaving for work when my daughter and I get up.

So, how long did it take you guys to flove Written in the Stars...   did it grab you quickly or did you have to read for a while?  I really need a story that will grab my attention quickly.    I was a little disappointed with the beginning of Grasping Darkness because it really took a while for me to get into it, but now I'm loving it (almost at the end).

I got into Written in the Stars pretty quickly, like first or second chapter.  Lissa Bryan writes a great alternate universe that I wanted to find out more about along with Bella.

It should be in the index.  It's really short.  Just his feelings on finding his wife was hurt.  :)

All this talk over Died and Gone to Heaven, so I decided to go to the index and download it.  After downloading I went to hit the thank you button, and couldn't find it, turns out I already downloaded it once and already hit the thank you button.  I really need to get my new calibre library set up soon, so I can check what exactly I have.

(Wow 3 posts in a row from me, and I planned on staying on permanent lurker status)

Something I've been wondering about all day. The violin from the Titanic is being auction off on Saturday (reserve price £250,000), but considering it was being played as the ship went down (we've all seen the films; stoic, stiff upper lip, quartet playing the passengers to their untimely death) how did it get back to dry land?

I bet this has already been answered (I'm only on the second page of today's 4 pages of posts) but I actually know this!

A violin would float but the water would eventually cause the glue to warp, and I'd assume the wood would also swell so it would be damaged and probably unplayable.

But, how did they get it? My guess is that that the rescue boats or maybe even the lifeboats picked up some of the flotsam.

Ah ... here you go:

Quote
Wallace Hartley's violin in its case (pictured) was found strapped to his body after the sinking of the Titanic.

I don't want to risk reading a drama/angst ridden story from an author I don't know.

I really need some fun, romance, fluff to get in a better mood.

What the frick is going on with kids these days!!! This is not acceptable behaviour - from the kid OR the teacher!!!

Schools here (in Queensland) must have a Bully Prevention Policy and the consequences for bullying must be clearly stated in the school behaviour plan.

This hardest parts - for me - are that kids rarely report bullying, or they report it well after the fact so it's almost impossible to investigate. Also, when parents do report it, they are so angry that somehow it becomes my fault and I cop the brunt of their anger rather than the kid (or the parent of that kid) that bullied, and they want me to just fix it, and the the parent of the bully gets angry with me, so instead of getting to the bottom of it and resolving it, it becomes quite nasty. Also, parents will often say that it's been happening for a while and they're sick of it - but they've never mentioned it before. They don't see to realise that a kid isn't usually going to bully right in front of a teacher!

The other problem that I face here is that quite frequently, it's not really bullying - it's teasing (that might eventually escalate to bullying if not dealt with) but kids also do need to develop some resilience so that they can cope with the idiots of the world when they get older.

That's obviously not the case with your little man, Anchalee - being kicked repeatedly should not be tolerated. Make sure the teacher does follow through with this after the vacation! You don't want this to be "forgotten".

All this talk of Tailward - I'm bumping it up the TBR.

I have returned to GD after putting it on hold to read Heat.

I didn't think I'd like Wolfward but ... READ THIS FIC NOW! It was really good - so good that I woke up at 5am, read "just one chapter" and then finished the last five!

My only issue with Heat is that there is such an overabundance of lemons that I actually skimmed.

Now, don't get me wrong, they were well written lemons and fitted the story - definitely not PWP , but there just seemed a lot of them.

Maybe it's just me - wrong time of the month? I'm not on heat?  ;)  :D

But don't let this stop you - a really great story.

Wow!  The mystery starts in the summary: WTF is she talking about?

I think a Summary should be the most impeccably written part. Your goal is to get people to read your work, not laugh at it.  Got Beta?

I've only had two writers share the summary with me, but I did make a suggestion to another that she edit the summary. I've even pointed out errors in the profiles of my writers - you can probably all imagine me with my red pen!

One of my writers was dumped on over on ADF this week - actually, the attack was on the betas. She has 2 - me and another. I PMed the person that posted the criticism and she said that she hadn't even read the fic, but had issues a few years ago with things the other beta was linked to.

I tried to point out tactfully that her criticism could have been perceived as an attack on me, and she assured me that it wasn't - but never retracted her comments publicly.

The initial criticism came about from someone else highlighting a grammatical error is Charlie's speech ("Me and you ...") . Several other posters commented that it was exactly how Charlie would speak and she changed her post.

This second poster ...  >:(

I just had the great opportunity to enroll my son into a 3 day self defence class next week!  :)

How to behave when strangers want to talk to you, how to defend against attacks, how to deflect attacks, how to prevent fights..... It's a great programm and I hope he has fun, gains some confidence back and learns something.  :)

I saw that....i hadn't even read the update yet, i felt like defending you.... But its ADF and i didnt want a huge drama to explode. I actually didnt read her original post, just the edited one. So that was the other reason.

But people forget that the authors have to listen to their Betas and pre readers, it doesnt mean they always do.

That's why I PMed rather than battled it out on the campfire.

In reality, it was nothing, but hopefully my calling her on it might make her think twice before she acts next time, but I doubt it.

I think it was that computer bravery thing again - hiding behind a screen. Very brave.
