  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

Astro was spot on about High Fidelity
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
grabbing you and not letting go! It was really good, but I can't pinpoint why it was so addictive--perhaps because B/E are so broken and written well. I was a little disappointed with the ending. To me, it's set up well for a sequel, but it's been a while so I wonder if any more will come of it. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Yes! I totally agree. I wasn't so much disappointed with the ending - I think the story is fully resolved and complete in itself (You all know the problems I have with WIPS - I feel HiFi was definitely finished!) - but there is plenty of scope for a sequel. I have put the author on alert, just in case she goes down that path.

I would read it - maybe even as a WIP!  :o

I can see the line of his boxer briefs... If I stare really hard.

And those thighs and arms, is it normal that I want to bite them . ^-^

Perfectly normal.

I feel exactly the same way, so it has to be.

As is licking the computer screen!

Yeah, I agree with you that it's finished, but I wished it had just a teensy bit more resolution. I'd love it if there were a sequel. Thanks for the tip, I'll add her on alert too!

I think I've read this one but never finished. Does it happen to any of you that you are 100% sure you've never read a book/fic then you read it and almost done and then you realize that you have in fact read the whole thing. This happens to me often, and it annoys the crap out of me. :P

Yes! That's why I started a spreadsheet (which I have been really slack at updating lately  :-[)

According to my spreadsheet, it turns out I have read Across the Ocean, but I don't remember anything about it. I need to leave notes - a synopsis, a plot summary, a review, something to jog this terrible memory of mine.

I'd say I read it when I was going through my "reading fics in alphabetical order" stage.

If there are any newbies lurking, take this advice - never read your TBR fics in alphabetical order. I pretty much only read "A" fics last year, read a lot of crap, and barely made a dent in the TBR - do you know how many "A" fics there are???  :banghead:

I started reading the index in alphabetical order.  I haven't got past A yet!

It is really hard trying to figure out whether I have read them previously or not and I end up re-reading until I realise I know what's going to happen next.

and is that safe, healthy?

Am I talking about the right fic? I hope I am. :D

Haven't read the fic, but that's exactly what happens in "Last Tango in Paris" - which I haven't seen either.

It's pretty uncomfortable to watch. It might even be classed as a rape scene. BE WARNED!

I can't believe Icy Pole really exists as a product!   Seriously the funniest thing ever!   Is this an Australian product?   :D   We call them popsicles here too.

What are you think of Antiques Roadshow so far?   I wasn't that impressed with that one, but I think its quite popular.

Yes, it's Aussie - and I never think of it as being anything funny! Like I said, you all are just dirty-minded!  :D

I had heard really good things about Antiques Roadshow too. I needed something light after HiFi, and while there are minimal SPaG issues, it's a little saccharine for my tastes, almost a crackfic in places. I'm persevering with it - I don't think I'll be reccing or raving about this one when I finish.

Yep - I debated with myself as to whether I should spoiler it or not, and decided to put the little warning (because I think, like me, most people would click the spoiler button anyway.) I'll go back and add to the warning.

I don't know the movie, or the context of this scene, but it's not pleasant viewing.

I also feel sad when I see how Brando aged - and this wasn't him at his old, bloated worst!

But when he was young... ;) He wasn't Paul Newman - OMG, I love Paul Newman!, but ...

Tight white T. Dangerous eyes. Ciggie. Remind you of anyone else we know? The comparison is made in the latest Dior release.

Like his legendary precursors—Marlon Brando, James Dean, Paul Newman, Monty Clift—he embodies a certain idea of masculinity. Virility tinged with a vulnerability that makes all the difference, a sensitivity that becomes a strength.
He seems to be the obvious heir to all those who drove fast, loved furiously and lived by one rule: to be free, come what may.

I went to read about the movie ( basically its the same as the fic.... I had no idea she based it on a movie, I need to start reading more a/n).

Anyway, the actress didn't know that he would use the butter, apparently Brando came up with that and the director, and her tears were real tears. Cause she felt like she was being raped....

That was even more disturbing.

To wash the bad taste of that butter scene out of our mouths, here is a little something I posted on twitter, but I can gush here more without the stoopid character limit!

I love Paul Newman. I FLOVE Paul Newman. I have ever since I was a teenager.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof gets me going every time - it's like a vibe with attachments!

I have been comparing our boy Rob to Newman for years - there was something in WFE and Remember Me that showed that he was more than a sparkly vamp (with an icy pole  :D). Then there's the nose and the lips...

I've never seen any comparison, so I went a little fangirl when I read it in the Dior blurb on Friday.

I saw the film a long time ago, so when I read the fic, that scene wasn't too much of a surprise. Fortunately, that enabled me to focus on the rest of the content of the fanfic, which I really liked. I said it before, but I have lots of  for artistic Edwards (esp the tortured ones). I'd definitely rec Last Tango of Forks to read.

I know, right!

I won't even kiss a guy if he's been smoking, but daay-am! Why is it so sexy in these pics?

Is the movie any good? I know it's a "classic" but now I'm wondering if it's also reached that status because of the creative use of butter.

How similar is the fic to the movie?

from what I just read on wiki very similar. but I enjoyed the fic.
I just didn't care for the butter scene. but it wasn't like the movie, it didn't come off as rape on the fic.

I think the fic is quite loosely based on the film, mostly the beginning. I saw the film when I was going through one of my must-watch-foreign-films-by-famous-directors stages in college. That was a long, long time ago and fairly typical for some Americans. I remember little, but mostly being shocked by the intensity of their relationship and where they ended up (different than the fic), as well as the butter scene (can't possibly forget that). It's worth watching. I think the film would have become famous even without that scene, but not so scandalous.

While I'm waiting for Last Tango in Paris to download, I've done some more Paul Newman/Rob Pattinson comparisons.

It's a real challenge to trawl through all the pretty pictures of these men.

Am I crazy, or does someone else see the similarities?
