  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I've been saying for ever that Grasping Darkness is one of my favourite Vamp fics but honestly the mini sequel, Hungry Light,  is even better. KiyaRaven has grown so much as a writer, I can hardly recognise her as the same author who wrote Screamers, which I've yet to remember to 'return' to  :D. If you haven't read it yet bump it up your TBR list!

Demaris, can you refresh my memory on Grasping Darkness?    Dark? HEA? ExA?  Angsty? Lemony?  :)

I'm really wanting to read a good vamp fic...  I absolutely LOVED Stranger than Fiction so it will be hard to beat that one!

Have been trying to decide between these: (looking for something that is heavy on the swoon factor and has a drool-worthy Edward, particularly the old fashioned Edward that is true to his original character)

Grasping Darkness
Creature of Habit
Distractions
And WIth The Fade Away
Bonne Foi
Broken Angel

I don't know, perhaps there is something wrong with me but I find that I now skim through smexy scenes in ff.  Frankly there are so many administrations‎, shafts, nubs, o's , crevices and emissions I can read before it sends me into a coma.  This is especially true if their are getting their arse whipped while crawling on the floor with something stuffed up their bottom, licking feet.  I think I am suffering from p**n overload.
LOL! I know exactly what you mean.  I'm enjoying High Fidelity partially because 70% through and still no lemons.  They are getting to know each other ;)

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
there is a bit of a whodunit element to the fic and a pretty great twist at the end which carries on into Hungry Light. Nice lemons, not overdone, a bit of angst but again just the right amount. All in all Kiya kicks arse!

I have read Stranger and liked it but liked Grasping more.  Of the list above the only one I've read is AWTFA which is in my top ten fics, and because AWTFA Edward is a British Liverpudlian, he makes my top 5 favourite Edwards....

Thank you!!  So, AWTFA ranks higher for you than Grasping Darkness?  :)   I think you just picked my next fic!   I'm so indecisive! I appreciate when you ladies weigh in on my choices!

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Broken Angel is probably the most canon of the ones you listed that I've read. Vampire in the Basement may be the least only because he's damaged.  But it's a great story :)

Mmmm? It's a close call, but yes, I think so....But they do have quite a bit in common, both have a whodunit element, both have a similar 'twist' at the end (which I've come to realise I like in my Vampfics) both Bellas are pretty feisty and not just stumbling ninnies...You won't go wrong reading AWTFA.

EDIT BTW finished Pattyrose's first fic It Will Be As If I Never Existed (if ever a fic needed an acronym this one is it!  ;D)  Again this is Vamp, alternative ending from New Moon onward (Edward comes back Bella is with Jacob yada, yada, yada) I struggled to read it in the most part, it seemed a bit 'childish' in places and if this Bella cried one more time I'd drain her dry myself! Then suddenly the final 3 chapters were great, the writing was completely different; I had to check a couple of time that I was still reading the same fic! Still, onwards I'm determined to read all of PR's stories and work my way up to The Cullen Legacy.

Grasping darkness I read as a wip, so I read the sequel as a wip. Is it sad I remember exactly where I was when the sequel starting posting? I squealed in the middle of a dang airport. Lol. Sigh Windowward.

I have not read AWTFA. That is better than Grasping Darkness, which is my fav vamp fic thus far? So I should read that in the fall instead of My Mate?

Lemons a must, but not overly done like Broken Angel. HEA a must. No slash. I don't think that's too picky. No wonder my TBR list will never be complete.

is anybody familiar with this fic:
Bella is almost dirt poor with twins aboy and a girl. They bump into Esme I think and she's shocked to see the eyes of the kids which are the same shade as hers and the little boy who looks exactly like Edward when he was little. It breaks her heart to see the way they live when she follows them home and vows to get to the bottom of things

thanks

Now I'm curious, I'd like to know which fics complete your top Edward list. After I read your post I tried to complete a list and just failed. It's like I'd have to have categories and then make a favorite E list for each. Badassward, mafiaward, ceoward, docward, actorward, just to name a few, I like them all.

RDM I remember when Hungry starting posting, you came onto PTS and 'squealed' here too!  :D The reason I remember was because I thought. "If something other than Robp0rn get RDM this excited? I must read it!"  :D :D  I wouldn't say AWTFA was 'better' per se, they are both very, very good but AW (for me) just pipped Grasping because of I preferred that Edward.

Oh Lord that is a question....I have to say that there is plenty of upward and downward movement on my top 10 list, but my top 5 are pretty consistent, and they aren't really 'graded', they are just ALL in the top 5 together, if you know what I mean. So in no particular order....

Strippin', Slippin', Stumbletumblin'
True Love Way,
Dusty (yes, with all his messiness, I love him!)
AWTFA
High Anxiety (Though The Tutor, nips at this Edward's heels)

After these it gets messy...

Okay I finished High Fidelity by IReenH You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

They definitely both have issues. But it takes a while for things to come out, especially for Edward.  And it is a slow burn.  Really slow. Considering it is 200K words.

I will say that for the most part, I really enjoyed it.  There were a couple chapters that were a little harder to deal with than others.  But it is not overly angsty.  As it they have real problems and not a bunch of stuff that keeps happening to them for no reason. My only complaint is the ending.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

So yeah, it felt a little unfinished at the end for me. Although neither of them will get over their problems any time soon, an epilogue with a future take would have been nice.  Kind of a, yeah, things are working out for us, sort of thing.

But a good read and there is an indication of an HEA.  ;D

Now I'm reading a semi drabble fic -

Two strangers, one express bus. Can they find love on their way home? Rated M for language and lemony goodness. My first attempt at a drabble-ish story. AH
Twilight - Rated: M - English - Romance/Humor - Chapters: 69 - Words: 65,669 - Reviews: 3348 - Favs: 677 - Follows: 655 - Updated: 1-1-13 - Published: 1-23-12 - Bella · Edward - Complete

I swear, I usually read author's notes, but these are longer than the chapters.....  It is all human.  For some reason I was thinking this was a vampward.  I must be getting it mixed up with another.....

I agree with you, and I really enjoyed reading it, too. But the ending was a disappointment, and I'm not sure if a futuretake would sufficiently answer all my questions. To me, it's set up well for a sequel, but it's been a while so I wonder if any more will come of it. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Oh, you hit my favorite working class Edward--the daddyward from ItzMegan73's A Rough Start. Great fic! Loved it, and I absolutely adore the little boy in it. The pair from LyricalKris' The Boy At Table Seven is great also. I think the funniest w.c. DILFward was from Vancouver-Canuck-Girl - The Real Life of E A Masen.

Air's Constructionward was so endearing. I think my fav RA fic though is Brighter as I loved Edward as the bar owner in St. Croix.
