  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I worked at a battered women's charity for a while, and I had a really strong reaction to the Malpas books.  I read them, but I was pissed off the entire time.  Unfortunately, there are too many women out in the real world who take responsibility for their partner's bad behavior and think that isolating, controlling, manipulative, deceitful behavior equals love.  Please don't get me started.  It pisses me off to even think about it.  I blasted the first book in a review on goodreads.  I probably got blasted in return, but haven't been back to look.

A double yammy.  Hubs also adores Bernard Cornwall but only his Sharpe novels.  ;D

Has anyone read Holding Out For You by ObsessingOverEdward?  Is it worth a read?

I've read it. It was the story that brought me here  :) because I didn't find it anywhere.

I remember I liked it. It was pretty good, literary realism. No instalove, a lot of stuff to work through, cute kids all around...

Hm, I think I put it back on my TBRR list (to be reread  ;) )

I like Sharpe.  Doesn't Bernard Cornwall also write some historical British naval novels?  Set during the Napoleonic wars, maybe?

Thanks! I'm new to the genre, and I'm trying to decide between the books of Sierra Cartwright, R.K. Lilley, Tiffany Reisz, Jodi Ellen Malpas, and J. Kenner. Any recs on those?

Looooved R.K. Lilley's Up in the Air trilogy!! You must read it next! James cavendish! Swoon

There are 2 other books about side characters, Lana and Bad Things. Haven't read Bad Things coz am waiting for the second part to come out.

Havent read J. Kenner though i have her trilogy in my ipad. Will give sierra cartwright a try, let me know how her Mastered series is so i can get it. I only have her Bared to Him novel.

Am not really into hardcore BDSM so i don't actively look for books like that. But i loved FSoG, Crossfire series of Sylvia Day and Up in the Air bec of the stories/characters. I rarely give 5 stars in goodreads but these i rated as such.  :)

I read it as a WIP, very early on in my twific life, and just loved it - I'm pretty sure that it may have been one of the first AH fics that I read and remember being quite surprised that people would write AH twific!  :o

Now, I pretty much only read AH!  :D

I don't think she actually did a P2P, but on You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, you can read the non-twi version called Ready To Love Again. I've never bothered. I have it as a pdf - I can't remember whether I made it or if I found it online - but if you want it, let me know and I'll email it to you.

So, I know the rules.....I'm in the wrong thread to ask this but if I go to 152 I'll enter looking for one fic and leave having downloaded 20! I have a fic in my Calibre that I keep meaning to get to but, distractions, distraction, and now that I'm looking to read it I can't find it!!! It opens with Edward talking to someone, I think Emmett, about Bella and him making a mistake about something he thought she'd done and he supposedly treated her badly because of it...That is all I can remember  :pulling. If you ladies can't help I'll moosey on over to 152 but I'm really hoping I don't have to  :-[  FFG don't throw me off the island, being a fic addict and not wanting to get tempted by your drug of choice is a perfectly good excuse to hide out here and not venture over to the crack house.... :D :-*

Thank-you!

I thought I was going batty - I knew the authors name (R.K. Lilley) and could not for the life of me remember which of her stories I had read.  I enjoyed the Up In The Air series too.

I am reading Sleep With The Lights On by Maggie Shayne at the moment.  I really enjoyed The Gingerbread Man by her earlier this year.
It is not for the faint hearted - based around a serial killer.

Thanks hun, I'll give it a go but just found a long HP fic to read, so it will have to go back on the TBR list for a bit.   :-*

Yes he does but much earlier than the Napoleonic wars, not that I have read any.  When I think of Sharpe I think of Sean Bean.

I loved Sean Bean in all the Sharpe programs.  It was hard for me to adjust to him playing so many villains.  I was so happy to see him play a good guy in Game of Thrones...at least until he got his head cut off.

Brits as villains are still in vogue in Hollywood and that seems to have filtered down somewhat to TV so he was lucky, until the head thing.  On the other hand, Sean has often lost his head but there is usually beer involved.

Bless him, he often looks like he could use a good hair brushing, whereas in Twilight he had been coiffured to an inch of his life.

This made me laugh (especially # 3 - because who sends the principal to the principal's office? And would that count as Round 2?) but I'm also worried that Loopy might think it's a challenge!

My husband got me started on the Jack Ryan series.  Loved them all.  Though the last one? Yeah, still sitting on the shelf waiting for me to read.  Edward and Bella are not characters in it. Just so you know. :P

But I'm really sorry he died. He wasn't that old really.   :(
