Hey Astro, I did this for some ladies over on FB because I didn't know how to load files to FB.  Anyway it is all in a Doc that you can download for when you finally give in and do it.

I love Inner Goddess type voices. There was one Geekward story I read with the Monster that was hilarious, but I don't remember the name or author.
Pound of Flesh was so good. I really liked its Edward.

Off to start Sexy Silk!

I'm pretty sure that the Monster one that you are talking about is You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login by Twilightzoner. It's a really funny, all human version of Midnight Sun.

I love this fic - I actually have read this one twice, and as I said yesterday, I don't re-read!

I was so excited to see that there was You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login but it's only 5 chapters and hasn't been touched since 2011  :'(

Thanks Mate!

I have d/l'ed calibre and all of the extra bits, because I needed to remove the DRM from a book and convert it from mobi to epub - my other DRM remover hadn't been updated to handle the most recent Amazon upgrade - but that's as far as I've gotten.

I think I'm a little overwhelmed when it comes to dealing with thousands of fics!

Thanks for the instructions - I will certainly be playing in Calibre more now!  :-*

I think you're right! I only read it once sometime last year, but I think you're right. It was a really funny parody. Edward's inner voice just takes the cake!

You are where I was a few months ago.  I only used Calibre to remove DRM.  And maybe change a few formats.  I really love it for downloading though.  Mostly because I get the summary so I can see if I want to read something. I'm very slowly updating all the metadata to show which ones I've read, what type of Edward, which one's I've flounced, etc...  That's never going to get finished. But it does tell me the words/pages/chapters which also helps in deciding what to read next.

I still have a whole bunch of stuff in mobi and PDF that were not on FFnet or whatever when I started this Calibre thing.  These don't have all the good info & I have to manually add it.  So mostly? Yeah, I haven't put them in the "library"  Eventually I will.  When life slows down a bit.   :D :D :D :D

Like that will ever happen......

But I figure I made the doc for the FB ladies and I like you all better, so I should share it here also.  Then you don't have to search all over for it.

My eyes still glaze over when I read the word "metadata" but the instructions all make perfect sense to me - well done!

I will be cursing you when I have eleventy-jillion fics in my TBR list though!  ;)

Most of the stuff I download? I will never read.  It is just in case someone here wants it.  Also, because I never know what I will want to read in the future....

But mostly, I download the high rated stuff, stuff by authors I like or are favs of the authors I like.  I downloaded peoples favs hoping I will find something I like.  And I started grabbing completed fics, but mostly everything is B/E stuff.

Completely off topic, but You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login was in today's paper here.

I love my job, but this explains why I am wishing I still had at least another week before I go back to work - how can 2 weeks go so quickly?

I guess it also explains why I have 4 bottles of booze on my kitchen bench!

At least they aren't 4 empty bottles!  :D

Are you home? How was the trip? Are you all cultured and refined now?

Did you bring back any presents?  ;)

I am home.  I don't know about my culture and refinement, but my 14 yo has adopted a British accent (of sorts).  I brought back presents, although part of my present stash had to be given away at Heathrow because I was not thinking clearly when I was packing.  I bought some of the Buckingham Palace hand wash and lotion to give to some people who assist me here in real life.  Instead of putting it in my checked luggage, I put it in the bag I was carrying on the plane.  I didn't clue into my problem until I checked my bags and was ready to go through security.  I freely admit that many of the restrictions as to what you can carry onto an airplane are asinine, I had no one to blame but myself.  And boy was I p!ssed.  Then, due to getting stuck behind a school group returning to Russia who were clueless as to what they could carry onto the airplane, it took FOREVER to go through security.  So I had no time to shop in the terminal to replace my gifts.  So my helpers have been gifted with the story rather than the hand wash and lotion.  The good news?  The gifts I bought for their kids (and mine) made it through security.

I'm still just hopping off and on here though because I now have to catch up at work.  To make matters worse, our office manager is unexpectedly retiring in a hurry due to an illness in the family, so we're having to interview quickly in order to replace her.  We had 3 good candidates come to the office today.  Now the hard part is choosing.  I should feel lucky that we had 3 good candidates to choose from.  But I'm too jetlagged to feel lucky.

I just keep telling myself that it will get better in a few days.  Ok.  I'm finished whining.  Thanks.

Well, I'm glad you're back, safe and sound in one piece, even if your evil plot to rule the world with hand wash and lotion was foiled.

And just imagine how much fun the boys in British customs are having with all that lotion!

Ooo! Ooo! Lauren - this might be the sequel to Customsward!!!

I guess I should also add that we took in lots of historical sites.  Although we revisited places my husband and I had been previously so my son could see them, we did go to a couple of new sites, including Stonehenge and Hampton Palace.  There were even modern day druids performing some sort of ceremony at Stonehenge since it was around the summer solstice.  I think they were really just new agers who, like most Brits, like to dress up in period costume.  Of course, calling themselves druids and dressing up in semi-medieval costumes also allowed them access to the inner sanctum of the stones.  It was also interesting to see how things have changed at the historical sites.  When we were there in the late 80s, access was much more casual, self-directed and much, much less crowded.  Now it's all more regimented, behind plexiglass, everyone has the audio tours and there were so MANY people.

While most of the folks at the museums and historical sites spoke with British accents, the people we dealt with at restaurants and our hotel were distinctly east European.  I had a tendency to ask people where they were from and why they came to London.  The answers covered a variety of eastern European (formerly Soviet block) countries, the reason was always curiosity.  But when asked how long they'd been in London, it was usually 6-8 years, which strikes me as more than mere curiosity.

There were other changes, of course.  For instance, they have signs everywhere telling you that you're being watched on cctv.  I thought that was funny considering they're kicking Google's a$$ over their street view work.  I understand why, but it's still funny.  Not all the young people are in goth wear like they were in the 80s.  That was a nice change.  There seemed to be a lot more staff at the tube stations and, overall, I thought people were a lot friendlier.  Now, that might be because I'm more outgoing now that I'm older.  Obviously, (see the preceding paragraph) it doesn't faze me to start up conversations with random strangers.  We struck up lots of conversations with the staff and volunteers at the historical sites we visited, as well.  I was told several times that I didn't sound like I was from Texas.  I'll have to lay on the accent next time, I guess.  I'm perfectly capable of sounding like I'm from Texas.

Finally, I've had to re-think the historical context of steel.  I tend to think of it has a more modern invention, despite the fact that I've seen chain mail and armor before and can place them in a historical context.  Steel has been around a lot longer than you think.  Google it!

A sequel to Customsward sounds like a great idea.  So please ignore the fact that I tried to have it shipped to me through the shipping office in the airport.  Apparently, they also are not allowed to ship liquids of any kind.  I asked the guy in the shipping office if he had a wife/girlfriend/mother who might enjoy the bounty.  He claimed to have a girlfriend, so I gave it to him.

Huh, I've never seen that either - and I download a LOT of stories! I assume she must have emailed them to ask them to block the URL, as there's no option when publishing on FFn for anything like that.

Let us know what you think of Sexy Silk...  I moved that up my list right behind my athleteward pick.   Unfortunately i go side tracked by a real book so athleteward has to wait.  I'm reading Kiss of Steel (steampunk).   I've been hearing great things about it and its sequel.

This made me laugh! Definitely a good way to start the sequel!    I have to admit that I'd never thought before about what they do with all those bottles of lotion.   LOL   I did once see an ebay auction for a big bucket of nail clippers with sharp files (GROSS) that they were selling as surplus from airport security.   Who buys that kind of thing?  ick.
