  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
Thread #4 - We are crazy talkers here!

ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

This is the new thread as the other was sooo long and had lots of pages. Continuation of our wonderful discussions on Twilight Fanfiction, Books, and Life in general.  But mostly Twilight fanfics... and life stuff that will get me a NOT ALLOWED statement.

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

I am home.  I don't know about my culture and refinement, but my 14 yo has adopted a British accent (of sorts).  I brought back presents, although part of my present stash had to be given away at Heathrow because I was not thinking clearly when I was packing.  I bought some of the Buckingham Palace hand wash and lotion to give to some people who assist me here in real life.  Instead of putting it in my checked luggage, I put it in the bag I was carrying on the plane.  I didn't clue into my problem until I checked my bags and was ready to go through security.  I freely admit that many of the restrictions as to what you can carry onto an airplane are asinine, I had no one to blame but myself.  And boy was I p!ssed.  Then, due to getting stuck behind a school group returning to Russia who were clueless as to what they could carry onto the airplane, it took FOREVER to go through security.  So I had no time to shop in the terminal to replace my gifts.  So my helpers have been gifted with the story rather than the hand wash and lotion.  The good news?  The gifts I bought for their kids (and mine) made it through security.

I'm still just hopping off and on here though because I now have to catch up at work.  To make matters worse, our office manager is unexpectedly retiring in a hurry due to an illness in the family, so we're having to interview quickly in order to replace her.  We had 3 good candidates come to the office today.  Now the hard part is choosing.  I should feel lucky that we had 3 good candidates to choose from.  But I'm too jetlagged to feel lucky.

I just keep telling myself that it will get better in a few days.  Ok.  I'm finished whining.  Thanks.

It's good to have you back! Glad you and yours are safe.

I hear you about security. One time they wanted me to throw out all the make-up in my purse! I had to borrow a ziploc from someone and make sure it all fit in one bag because they said it was on the list. Seriously, how am I going to threaten anyone with a tube of lipstick? Whatever. Fortunately, I don't use much so it all fit, but I was still p!ssed--my fault or not.

I guess I should also add that we took in lots of historical sites.  Although we revisited places my husband and I had been previously so my son could see them, we did go to a couple of new sites, including Stonehenge and Hampton Palace.  There were even modern day druids performing some sort of ceremony at Stonehenge since it was around the summer solstice.  I think they were really just new agers who, like most Brits, like to dress up in period costume.  Of course, calling themselves druids and dressing up in semi-medieval costumes also allowed them access to the inner sanctum of the stones.  It was also interesting to see how things have changed at the historical sites.  When we were there in the late 80s, access was much more casual, self-directed and much, much less crowded.  Now it's all more regimented, behind plexiglass, everyone has the audio tours and there were so MANY people.

Wow, I wish I had seen it before like you had (without glass and so many tourists). I recently read Falling Empire of a Heart by hoochiemomma, and a key scene takes place at Stonehenge with Romans and Druids. I have this idea of what it would feel like to be there, and I wonder if it's true. I imagine it is awe-inspiring. Glad you were able to return!

Thanks for sharing your stories!

There is no way she can turn it down; it's the dream of a lifetime. So, this was just completed. I do not recommend it as it doesn't have a fanfic hea.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Well, if nothing else, if forced me to get my shit together and use Calibre!

Thank you Ella - your instructions made it a breeze!  :-*
You're welcome.

Nikki supposedly had a story plagiarized and sold for money.  So now she is threatening every one with legal action. There was a big brouhaha over on jklly's Facebook site over this. She finally kicked some users out of the group. I was really proud of her!

Anyway, Nikki somehow believes her lawyer can sue people for downloading her stories and Steve decided it was easier to go along with her than fight it. So you can't flagfic her stories.  She has no control over the other methods though.  ;)

I did feel bad for her until she and her friends caused a bunch of problems.  :P

Let us know what you think of Sexy Silk...  I moved that up my list right behind my athleteward pick.   Unfortunately i go side tracked by a real book so athleteward has to wait.

Well, the girls were right, Sexy Silk is WIN! Hilarity and HEA all the way! I really liked the snarky humor and pop culture references.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
The inner voices were great (although a little too much at a few points where I just wanted the plot to further itself). It's almost all BPOV with a few touches of Edward at key moments. Here, Bella's a woman you can root for.

Hey! I didn't start this....I just made it easy  :D :D :D :D

Someone got RDMickey and me started on it.  She came up with some of those column headings I use, then FFDL updated to provide all the wonderful information.  Or I figured it out.  I was using it for around 3 months before I discovered all the good things it can do.

AND THEN Anchalee told me about the Get All URLs from a Web Page option.  So really? I blame her for my going from 6K stories to 12K stories almost overnight.....  :-*

So I share all this with you and you YELL at me?? ?? Sigh...... ???   :040:  ::)

Hi, Can anyone rec any AH culturally/socially restricted-type stories (completed)? I.E. where B/E either come from different worlds or from ones different than what I'm used to? Prefer multichapter B/E. Modern or historical is fine.

Ones that I read and enjoyed that I am thinking of are

ItzMegan73 - The Cannabean Betrothal (B/E in conservative religious sect in modern times)
solostintwilight - In Your World (E's Amish, B isn't)
CaraNo - This Life (The world is modern but the law embraces old traditions.)
Kharizzmatik - Emancipation Proclamation (modern times but slavery abounds)

Thanks for any suggestions!

ok i have bits of this story in my head and it is driving me crazy.  Bella owns or works in a flower shop and in comes Edward,  he has some sort of agreement they made many years ago about marriage. He needs a pretend finance for a job he is going for overseas.  They have to fool Alice who wants to help plan their wedding.  Sound familiar to anyone?

  • Hi! I'm Ellachanted and I'm a fanfic-oholic.
So, does anyone want a PITA kitten?  Maybe just babysit her for a while? So I can clean the floor?   :banghead:

The mail that was in a nice pile for shredding is now everywhere.  Sigh.  I really need a shredder.  I'm not talking the machine.  I mean a person to sit and do it for a day.

She attacks me every time I go to pick a piece up.  You'd think it was hers.   :pulling

It would be very funny if my feet and legs weren't already all scratched up from her.....  And it's hot. But I can't wear shorts until all these scratches heal so I can shave my legs.  Sigh.... why did I let my husband talk me into this? :021:

Thanks for letting me b*tch for a moment.   :-*
