ADULT DISCUSSION HERE, SO TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN! UM NO, WAIT! IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, LOOK AWAY NOW!

Okay, here is a place to discuss what you are reading, ask for recommendations and complain about the writing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so please play nice

Because we know drypen's watching

She could let them have a HEA and write about something else...
New books, new settings and characters.

She is a great writer. I was so upset with Outlander - the prison thing - i was fuming and venting to strangers. I sat my mom down and i started complaining about the book for half na hour. She hadnt read it.

I just gave Outlander for my grandma as a xmas gift and told her to be prepared for all the feelings it will give her.

I was exhausted after reading it. And i still think Jamie is better than Mr Darcy, Edward and whoever else there is out there.

But i just hate her plot twists. Dont read if you dont want to be spoiled

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Really, how can you think she doesnt hate them?

Because I think it's way too simplistic to think that way....to read the quality of her writing and  break it down in such black and white terms..... It just doesn't compute in my head.

I think she's writing a epic (in the traditional sense) and as such the protagonist/hero have to be put through trails. The ones you mentioned faced by Brianna and Claire (on tapatalk can't spoil)  were as you said common ones at the time....and Brianna's would have been avoided if she hadn't been a silly bint (sorry I'm not a fan of hers)  and in the army, Jamie's trial would also have been commonplace, Jack Randall is a sadist and considering everyone who claps eyes on Jamie falls for him  it is shocking but not surprising how that turned out...as in any story all the world has to fit within its pages.....as in a band; the blond, the brunette, the 'nerd' the jock etc...something for everyone. In this book, 50 years of marriage and history has to happened to a handful of characters so EVERYTHING happens to them. Gabaldon loves them and because she does, she can't let them go and because she can't she has to keeps them evolving, and to do so they have to grow, and for dramatic purposes, their growth comes through suffering.

But finally what nut would spend 20 odd years writing about characters they hated?! [emoji23][emoji23]

It wasn't Astro it was me...RDM TBH is one of the best books I've ever read; out of the thousands of books, TBH is in my top 10 maybe top 5. If you don't believe me read all the 5* on GR. To reduce that book to a 'he cheats' is doing it such a disservice I have no words!  :o

Lol. Thank you. Demaris got me doubting myself for a while there. Yeah, I get my view was a bit simplistic, there was a lot more going on. When Jamie spanked Claire that didn't  bother me as much, I could understand it.

Like for example
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
, that made me love Jamie even more. There are those small scenes that makes it worth. But after 100.000 pages What sticks are the major events.

I wish I could kidnap DG and make her rewrite a fluffy version. That is why I needed fanfic so much.

Hold on, I will check which one should start. Garwood definetely.

So what are the good points that would make me not think twice about the cheating? They would have to be mighty good. It's just about a hard limit for me.

are we still taking about The Bronze Horseman?  I've only been skimming because I don't want to see any outlander spoilers on this darn Tapatalk. ;)  I could go on and on about why TBH is so amazing.  It's my number 1 ever book! I don't think anything can ever dethrone it.

Yes it is on my TBR list. But after what I have gone through with Outlander, I don't want to read angst anytime soon. Still want highlander books though.

RDM if your looking for a fluffy, happy read. Take DD advice read Garwood's The Secret. I just finished it and it was such a relaxing experience. I finished Voyager on Monday and needed to recover from the emotional roller coaster, but still wanted Scottish men. >:D

Downloaded both. I am going to go clean as much as I can with the restrictions I still have from surgery. I need to vent some of my frustrations. Garwood it is when I am calm enough to read. Thanks!

I think that is a very wise decision to wait a long time between outlander and TBH.   Alexander and Tatiana put me through the ringer.  The highs and lows in this book were so extreme.  I never cry when I read and this one had me shedding many tears (lol auto correct just said shedding baby bears ha).    It was way more of an emotional roller coaster for me than outlander but then I didn't read past halfway through book 4 so I have no idea what is in store with Jaime and Claire.

I read TBH about 15 years ago....but it is angst with a capital A, you might want to wait a bit, a week?  I didn't know cheating was a hard limit for you RDM ( I thought you like Mamasutra?) but in TBH I promise it doesn't take away from one of the most romantic heroes ever written. If you love Jamie Frasier, you will love Alexander Belov.

Angst. Nope. Never been a fan, I have lived through it enough, so if given a choice, I don't want to read it too. I can read angsty moments, but not a series full of it.
It is also why I won't touch Dusty with a 10 ft pole.

I do love, love, love Jamie, I am just soooo pissed. I can handle heart-wrenching moments, but now I hope to goodness I can finish watching the show.

Ohh I read that when I was 16. For my A level. Don't remember much, I liked it, but was really freaked out by it.
I finished the first half of Handmaid's Tale last night and I didn't want to put it down!  Disturbing, but really interested to see how this all plays out!

Really? Why did I think you were a AngstyHoor? Well then! It all makes perfect sense! I wouldn't recommend Outlander or TBH to say... Ella; not. at. all. This is straight up Angst country. I'm sure the TV series will be fine, having visuals will help.....I just know I am never again going to watch it until the whole season is completed, this is the worse WIP in history :D
