But surely a womb that had to be removed via a hysterectomy would mean it was diseased in some way, doctors don't remove healthy wombs. In which case it'd be no good for baby making.....I'm just floored at the idea. Has anyone read Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go? I swear we are heading near and near to that reality very blinking year..
They do on rare occasions take a healthy womb if they think it will benefit your health, a bit like having a mastectomy if there's a very good risk of you getting breast cancer.I know my SIL had a hysterectomy and her's was fine but her and the doctor agreed that she would benefit without it for other health reasons. I read that years ago and you're right hun, now that's a scary thought.
You're right, I forgot that. I know of a case that a woman removed both breast and uterus to offset the chance of getting cancer as her mother die riddled with it. Hasn't Angelina Jolie said she may have to do that at some point also, when she came out and reported she'd removed both her breasts?
How does one donate a womb? BBC News is giving coverage to a baby born from a womb transplant, the womb had been donated to it's mother by a friend after she'd been born without a uterus....But surely that means the 'friend' now can't have children? After all no one has two wombs like they do two kidneys...or will they (the new parents) now just give the womb back to her? The world of medicine has become wonderfully innovative but at times rather....confusing/scary.
I just read an article about this story, and the donor was 61 years old. In this case it was an unrelated donor, but in most of the other 9 cases where they have transplanted wombs, it was the mother of the patient. The womb will also be removed after the baby is born.I have several friends who are non-baby people and are waiting to be 35 so that they can have a non-medical hysterectomy, because they never want to have children, so maybe they will be able to donate their uterus to those who do want to have children in the future.
I always thought that meant she was a surrogate - she had the baby for her friend using the friend's egg. But I could be wrong.
I'm BRCA2. Which means I have the gene for ovarian and breast cancer. Similar to Angelina Jolie. I had my ovaries removed. They were fine. Though frankly, since I was over 40, I wouldn't guarantee they worked. I'm scheduled for a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in November. However, I've been scheduled before and if someone with cancer needs the date? It will be cancelled. I'm not worried. I have regular mammograms and my mother had ovarian cancer. So, yes they remove good but not "necessary" parts if there is a history of cancer.

Wouldn't it be better to have your tubes tied? Unless you have problem periods or a family history of uterine cancer, I don't think I would do that. Though I guess if your surgeon is really good... things get shortened. It may not be as comfortable as it was LOL! Though I guess the horror stories I've heard may not relate as those women did have cancer.
When did you have the test Ella? I really glad that we have this amazing technology to test for things like that so that woman can get prior warning and make an informed decision before it becomes a life or death decision..So, increase in size? or.....
Hope it doesn't get cancelled again hun and if it does you've gotta demand a HOT doctor for when they do it. My bestie had really bad period problems - she didn't start until she was 25, then they were irregular, really heavy or really light and very painful so the doctors decided that a hysterectomy would be the best decision for her in the end.So she wouldn't be suffering from the menopause they removed everything but her ovaries and this seems to have worked.
It's truly amazing what science and technology can do these days. Hope everything goes well with your surgery. Will be praying for you
Am looking forward to reading Monster in His Eyes and book 2 next. I started How to Handle a Heartbreaker by Marie Harte last Monday. Am only on page 290 of 760 now. Well, it's a 3 day weekend here so hopefully i can do some reading in between doing stuff with the fam.Emancipation Proclamation is in my top 10. Limomx, Ella, do give it a try. For an anti-angst-and-long-books person, i was so glad i read this fanfic and all its outtakes. I haven't read Sempre nor its sequels. To any of those who've read both the fic and the pubd version, which would you recommend the EP virgins read?Yo, kim! You changed your name again? For awhile I thought my eyesight was failing me and we had a newbie named kimchi (love that so it was my mind subconsciously telling me to eat ). Then i realized you're missing an m? Que pasa? I'd love to hear the story behind that

So I had my ovaries removed within a year. No big. I had just started menopause anyway. The breasts, though, they are harder to give up. Though the pictures online? Once they are done, they look really normal. I'm not having implants. At least not if the way I'm going works. They will look much more natural and I get a tummy tuck. And? If it works, I don't have to have the implants replaced every 10 years or so. My sister had the implants initially, and one already broke. She hasn't fixed it yet because they want her to lose weight before they will do the surgery.
Hope it doesn't get cancelled again hun and if it does you've gotta demand a HOT doctor for when they do it.
Wait. Just. One. Minute! What's going on with my sig? I'm not even kidding... I thought that was Seth Green! It's Fassy though, right? I hate to say it but he just doesn't float my boat. Can I get an upgrade? (a PG-13 upgrade LOL)
Keep us posted on how this all goes! Hope you have a speedy recovery... did they give you a timeline on how long it takes to heal typically?Ella --- how does the reconstruction work without implants? I'm curious...
Thanks! Recovery is 6 to 8 weeks. I will be walking by the next day. Not looking forward to that part. I won't be able to lift anything heavier than 15 pounds for about 6 to 8 weeks. Otherwise I will be okay. What they are doing in a form of a DIEP flap. They take a blood vessel and maybe a small plug of muscle from my stomach along with a chunk of skin, also from my stomach, to rebuild my breasts. The good part of being a bit on the heavy side? I have excess stomach to use. I get a nice tummy tuck out of it. Because they are made from real parts of me? They will be permanent if they take. If they don't take for some reason or another, I still have the tummy tuck, but they will do implants. Implants aren't done like they do normally. They have to stretch out the pectoral muscle and put the implants behind it. If they put the implants in front of the muscle, because they removed all the breast tissue, you can actually see the implants through the skin and it stretches out. Not pretty. It is actually kind of fascinating that they can do stuff like this now. Years ago I worked with a lady who had breast cancer in one breast when she was young. She had to wear a prosthesis for years. It limited the kinds of tops she could wear. The insurance companies finally paid for the reconstruction probably 20 years after her initial removal. She loved it once it was done. She bought her first sundress with spaghetti straps.
